Could have been great … but …

We thought it was going to be a 1.5 colosseum tour but it started outside in the Roman ruins which was very interesting and our guide was great , but we had to abandon the tour before we ever got into colosseum to head to airport. Very frustrating to pay for a small group tour for the Colosseum and never get to see the inside of it.

Viator Review Response: Rome Colosseum Guided Tour Dear Reviewer, We completely understand your FRUSTRATION. It truly is a shame that your tour, which you thought would be "1.5 hours in the Colosseum" (a charmingly optimistic estimate for one of the world's most extensive and complex archaeological sites), actually started with the Roman ruins. And to add insult to injury, our guide was even GREAT AND INTERESTING! Who would've thought a Colosseum tour would include the ROMAN FORUM AND PALATINE HILL, which are, you know, literally right there and an integral part of the history surrounding the Flavian Amphitheatre? We get that there's a whole Roman Empire's worth of difference between "thinking it will be" and "the stark reality." But we're a bit puzzled how, after finding everything "very interesting" and the guide "great," it's somehow our fault your flight plans prevented you from seeing the inside of the Colosseum. Next time, we suggest bringing a magic wand for teleportation, or perhaps checking your watch before booking a historical tour. You never know, time flies, especially when you have a plane to catch! Honestly, it seems we're in a bit of a no-win situation here. If we'd only shown you the Colosseum interior for 1.5 hours, you might have complained about NOT SEEING THE ROMAN FORUM OR PALATINE. But when we offer a comprehensive tour that provides historical context, suddenly it's too much! It's as if WE'RE DAMNED IF WE DO, AND DAMNED IF WE DON'T. We're glad you at least found the initial part noteworthy. As for the rest, don't worry, the Colosseum is still there and isn't going anywhere. Perhaps next time, with a bit more time on your hands, you can enjoy the inside without rushing... and without having to blame those who tried to offer you a complete experience. The guide was great but a tour group of 25 was far too large and it is remarkable how she kept us moving through the sea of people we had to navigate through. Throngs of people diminished the experience for me.
