A Thrilling Night at the Colosseum

I recently had the chance to experience the Colosseum Night Tour in Rome, and it was nothing short of spectacular! The absence of crowds made the experience feel intimate and personal, which allowed me to truly appreciate the grandeur of this ancient monument without the usual hustle and bustle. Walking through the Colosseum in the evening, with the moon casting an eerie glow over the stone, created an atmosphere that was both thrilling and a little mysterious. The fact that it was so quiet added to the allure — I could almost imagine the gladiators' echoes from centuries ago. The lighting was subtle but dramatic, illuminating key areas of the Colosseum while maintaining that haunting, almost cinematic feel. It was a unique, almost surreal experience, and definitely one of the highlights of my time in Rome. If you want to see the Colosseum in a way few others do — with no crowds, just a bit of history and a lot of atmosphere — I highly recommend this night tour. It’s the perfect way to immerse yourself in the past while avoiding the daytime crowds.

An ABSOLUTE MUST! This was the one experience my husband wanted to do on our honeymoon and it was 1000% worth it! Our tour guide Laura was exceptional the entire time & you could feel her excitement the entire tour. Anyone coming to Rome add this to your “must do” list. The colosseum at night, is like nothing else!

A must do/see in my opinion.

I booked this tour as I went in August when it is sweltering hot. Julia did a wonderful job. I’m not sure I was as wowed by the Colosseum as others. I would have been happy just seeing it from the exterior. The night tour is nice, but very expensive.

If you thought a night tour of the Colosseum might be eerie, ghost-like and completely different from a day-time version, you’d be correct. Being in that storied arena — actually, below it - under the glare of the moon, is amazing. You truly are transported back in time. I often wondered about the stories of animals and gladiators below the floor, and what that could have been like. On the tour it’s quickly affirmed the Romans were geniuses about space and engineering - and this ancient relic reflects that. Beginning under the floor and ending on top is a great idea. You watch a video projected on a subterranean wall revealing the gladiator walk from the gladiator school to the arena, and it’s chilling. That’s the start. And at night, you can still hear their footsteps. Highly recommended.

Pricey but worth it. Would prefer the night again.

Pricey but going at night and no cues made it for a special, intimate and more realistic experience. The native guide spoke excellent English and was well versed in the history and able to answer questions.
