Great exhibits and so much to see. Even though it was a heatwave there were many shaded areas and benches to take a break.

I brought my 10-year-old granddaughter to Arizona for the primary purpose of watching a spring training game. The day before the game, I took her to the zoo… I was not prepared for the 94° weather and unfortunately there were no misters going nor were there any misting fans for sale. The latter would have made it more bearable. On top of all of that everything was as expensive as if you were going to Disneyland without all the rides. They don’t offer a printable map to make things easier to find; you could scan a barcode to get a map, but when you widen it on your phone, it becomes blurry and unreadable. The straws they give you for drinks are supposed to be nature friendly, but they are useless and you need 5-6 just to be able to finish your drink. Unfortunately, for me, I don’t ever believe I’ll be coming back.

The Phinox Zoo was amazing. I am a zoo lover and I definitely saw things here that I have never seen before. It was a great experience!

Great zoo, lots of animals. Would definitely visit again. Had a lot of food options, you can also drink alcohol if you want.
Stacie_K, Jan 2026
The ticket you sold me was for a different event. I was unable to use it. I was led to believe it was for zoo entrance and the ticket ended up being for the night light show.

The zoo is very organized, very close to the city, and well maintained. Its a very pretty place with different animals to see. Must of the animals we resting far from the viewing point, and we couldn't see or interact with must of them. We expected more from the experience, maybe we had bad luck with the specific moment we went.

Not sure if having a big diverse zoo is a wise investment for a community like Phoenix. Went to a half dozen habitats before seeing our 1st actual animal. They've all found a cool spot that isn't visible to visititors. We continued to come upon several more habitats where the animals are purposely absent,I assume again because of the heat. There is an Arizona Trail with indigenous animals to the state that were more present. But even there, the big cats and other animals from the mountain regions were hiding. We gave up after 2½ hours between the heat & the boredom. Exiting thru the gift shop I usually buy a patch & a pin from places I visit that are typically $5-6. Here they were $11-14 so I passed
I used expiring Viator points to purchase our tickets, otherwise I would have been PO'ed about spending $35 each for our tickets. Didn't leave yearning to come back and try again in more moderate temperatures.

We enjoyed our visit and would definitely visit again! Be prepared for the sun! Allow time for breaks to cool down and stay hydrated!

It was super easy to get into the Phoenix zoo with the digital tickets on Viator. The zoo is great, with lots to see. The only thing to know is that the zoo closes at 1 pm in the summer due to heat. So you need to go early in the day.
Donna_D, Jul 2025
It was 116 degrees the day we had pre purchased tickets for - too hot to be outside for 3-4 hours so we didn’t go! We were really disappointed because we visit the zoo every place we visit. So we spent $144 for nothing

The zoo is bigger than it looks from outside. They have scooter you could rent to cruise the zoo bit there are parts that are no ride zones, like the monkey village. Drink plenty of liquid it can be very hot. Zoo it's only open from 7::00 am to 1:00 pm from June through August then the hrs change . They have a gallery that changes theme every month, and of course a gift shop.

I have been gone for about 30 years I used to go here alot as a kid I finally moved back home to Phoenix and couldn't wait to visit the place i had so many great childhood memories
Cindy_R, Apr 2025
Try to go either later in afternoon when the animals get fed or in the earlier morning (around 9 when zoo opens) before it gets hot and the animals are i in the shade and tough to see.
Claire_L, Mar 2025
The Phoenix Zoo is wonderful, clean, well-laid out. The options for people that need mobility devices was nice
Nancy_E, Mar 2025
No giraffes or elephants were present. Heard from someone else that the zoo no longer had elephants. We did enjoy the little monkeys in their habitat
Pamela_H, Mar 2025
Perfect day for a family trip to the zoo. Easy breezy digital scan for entry. Saw lots of active animals. Tigers, orangutans, monkeys, giraffes, and reptiles. It was grand babies 1st trip to see animals. At 6 months she was easily able to catch site of a few.

A very walkable ZOO. NO Senior discounts on tickets. Somewhat expensive entrance fee. Clean facility. NO MAPS OF THE TRAILS ARE PROVIDED. A Zoo worker suggested we take the 25-minute trolly ride to set a plan for areas you wanted to visit. However, the trolley ride was an extra charge beside the entrance fee. We walked the entire zoo in 2 1/2 hours at a rather leisurely pace.
Naturally the food and snacks are expensive.
Laurio_E, Feb 2025
it’s was nice seeing the animals but it was sunny outdoors so i would say come prepared. It wasn’t crowded and really nice to walk around .
Erin_M, Feb 2025
So much fun! Simple purchase for a great day! My partner and I wanted a spontaneous adventure and Phoenix zoo was the choice! Loved seeing the lions!
Claudia_C, Feb 2025
The tickets did not work with Viator bad experience and the price was to high for what we saw at the zoo
Oliver_H, Jan 2025
Loads of animals to see and interact with. Lots of walking but Restroom's and food available everywhere .
Kelsi_B, Jan 2025
The staff were very accommodating and friendly. Great photogenic animals and an excellent camel ride to start the New Year 2025! Voyaging en style
Allison_C, Dec 2024
This is a really nice zoo. We only did like 1/3 of the zoo but had a great time. We enjoyed the stingray feeding and all of the rattle snakes. Who knew there were that many?!
Gabriela_E, Dec 2024
Loved so much! The Arizona exhibit was wonderful and gave an a great view of the wildlife in the Sonoran Desert!
Damon_H, Nov 2024
Seeing the looks of the kids faces when they see the animals. The simple thing as the animals eating or the monkeys fighting over there food.
Ken_S, Oct 2024
This is a great zoo. Clean, friendly staff and just enough animals. It was in the cooler side when we went so many animals were out.
Tyson_L, Sep 2024
It was a good experience, my wife and I loved it. We did go mid day so some of the animals we too hot to be out, which we understood. Lots to see and really cool animals, who are getting great care. We will be back for sure.
KailaJoy_M, Jul 2024
The zoo was absolutely beautiful! For the most part all the animals in this zoo seemed healthy & well taken care of. My family & I got to ride a camel named Issac, which was cool & something we’d never think of doing at all, let alone at a zoo. Overall experience was exceptional!
Mishell_W, Jun 2024
Would not recommend in June. It is super hot and humid. Most of the animals weren’t out and visible.
Amanda_K, Jun 2024
The baby monkey area was a neat and new experience, the tigers and the white rhino were also cool. We didn't see elephants, bears, giraffes, leopards, and a lot of animals- the zoo seemed empty and not worth the money paid as we walked past empty exhibit after empty exhibit. I'd been before when my kids were small and this was just disappointing.
