Dreu, our awesome Tour Guide. made this experience well worth the cost. Sharing his expansive knowledge and passion for the Hawaiian culture was educational and extremely thoughtful. Our group was so fortunate to see and experience above and beyond what we were expecting - seeing the lava glow in the crater and stargazing at the same time was Perfect!!! We would recommend requesting Dreu for an outstanding experience. Be prepared for weather changes because that is part of the experience. Mother Nature is So Amazing!!!

Volcanos, Lava and Black sand beaches

If you are lucky to get Todd as your guide you hit the jackpot. Very informative, with a little humor thrown in. Always making sure you are seeing what you expected to on this tour. Plenty of stops, and always informative about what you are seeing. He is an awesome guide for a tremendous tour.

Great experience, Todd was the best very knowledgeable. Definitely bring some lite pants to wear in the spring time, it was a little cool during the star gazing part.

Fantastic way to see the island.

Renee_W, Apr 2026
Our tour guide, Felix, was the best. He is very knowledgeable about the Hawai’i and life on the island, the history, plants and animals and of course different forms of lava and the landscape. It is a long day, but well worth it…leave the driving to someone who knows the area. The van was very comfortable for the 12 of us, nice size group. Felix was prepared with snacks and water/juice, and offered jackets and umbrellas if people wanted them later on in the evening. The boxed lunch at the coffee plantation while we sat on a covered patio with a view of the farm/coastline. There were plenty of bathroom stops throughout the day. Black Sand Beach was another nice stop and we saw turtles in the water and petroglyph. It was also a good time to enjoy the wonderful Malasadas that we bought at the Punalu’u Bake Shop. Felix knew all the right stops for great views throughout Volcanos National Park. We saw the crater, walked through the rain forest and through a lava tube and saw where past lava flows ran into the ocean at the end of Chain of Craters Road where the coast line is very rugged. We visited the Volcano House on the NW rim of the crater with a good view of the steam raising from Kīlauea Crater. Dinner was at a nice, casual restaurant (Volcano Lava Rock Cafe) just outside the park entrance. It was dark when we drove the short distance back to the Volcano House to watch the red glow of the lava activity at the surface. On the way back to Kona via Saddle Road, Felix knew several great spots and stopped to look for stars. Unfortunately the clouds didn’t cooperate and only parted briefly to be able to see a star or two. The weather can be unpredictable, especially in Hawaii, but it didn’t change how we felt about this experience. It was all wonderful and we would do it again in a heart beat.

Review for Derek at Wasabi Tours

Apurva_L, Apr 2026
Derek was an incredible guide—so interactive, informative, and genuinely hilarious. He kept us laughing the entire time! Even though we missed the volcanic activity at the viewpoint, it started up while we were at dinner nearby. Derek immediately took us back on a detour to try and catch a glimpse. He is a wonderful, jolly, and amusing guide who truly goes above and beyond. Highly recommend!

Great experience

Excellent day trip to the volcano national park! Food provided was actually good, would recommend the blackened mahi for dinner. Dreu was a super knowledgeable guide and great throughout the whole day

A great way to know the island.

Kristina_G, Feb 2026
A great mix of food and sightseeing. The stars were absolutely amazing and our guide even brought a telescope.

Recommend =)

Ash_M, Feb 2026
Had a great time. It is a long day but saw many awesome things, like sea turtles, black sand beach, beautiful coastal views and of course the volcanoes. It was a cloudy day so wasn't able to take advantage of the start gazing but that's no fault of the excursion. The only thing i would have preferred is leaving earlier so on the way back we can see different things. But our travels back to our destination was after dark.

Breathtaking tour of nearly the entire island

Deborah_S, Feb 2026
We had an excellent experience with the Wasabi Tour group and would highly recommend this tour to anyone. The physical activity was not overwhelming, and there was plenty of resting throughout the tour. Our guide, Todd, was extremely knowledgeable about the island and the intricacies of Hawaiian culture. He picked us up at our resort and was very welcoming. During the tour we made several scenic stops that were not scheduled and these made it even more special. While this tour was a long day, it was filled with surprises and Hawaiian traditions. I recommend bringing a set of warm clothes as the day started out very warm, and then as the day went on and as we drove higher into the mountains the temperature was much cooler. Extra jackets were provided but bringing your own jacket and some light sweatpants definitely helped. We will definitely recommend this tour to anyone we know interested in visiting the big island.

Amazing tour with an amazing guide!!

Thomas_W, Feb 2026
Derek is a great tour guide! He gave us a ton of information over the course of the tour, and made it all very fun! I would highly recommend this tour, and if you can, request Derek. You won't regret it!!

Fantastic full day!

Josephine_M, Feb 2026
Fantastic full day! Starting with the timely pickup from our resort, each stop along the way, the tour made the most of all things on the itinerary. What helped make it so amazing? Derek! The best of the best! Humor, knowledge, professionalism, and going the extra mile. Always offering waters, snacks between meals, so extra! Be prepared for a lot of time driving though… it’s a big island and getting to Volcanoes takes a minute. But so worth it!

Dreu is the absolute man

Sejal_G, Feb 2026
Dreu was absolutely amazing, one of the best tour guides I’ve had. He made the entire tour super entertaining and interesting. Engaging and informative

Great Tour, great driver/guide

Lori_G, Feb 2026
We enjoyed the tour very much. Our driver/guide Felix was extremely knowledgeable and helpful in every way. We saw the most amazing scenery along the way as he explained and informed everyone about what we were seeing. The only thing reason why I didn’t give five stars is because the food provided was pretty horrible. Of course tour isn’t about food so don’t expect to be impressed with food. Overall it was a great experience from the drive to the coffee farm to the end of the tour watching the stars.

Fast paced

Milisa_M, Jan 2026
Drew did an amazing job of keeping us on track for our next stop. We did not get to star gaze due to clouds but we went back to the volcano and got to see small eruptions to finish off the night. Lots of amazing stops packed in the 12 hours. You could call it a sample tour, as you dont get long at any of the stops, 15-30 minutes. Lots of things to see and even more to learn!

This was a fantastic tour that included all the amazing things that make the big island wonderful. We enjoyed everything from the Kona coffee farm to the lava tube. A full day of adventure.

Christina_L, Jan 2026
They do provide jackets and rain jackets if needed. I did bring a hoodie and was happy they had extra for the end of the tour. We were lucky to see some activity from the volcano, but every part of the tour was great my favorite was the stargazing and our tour guide Derek. Derek was very knowable and entertaining. He made our long journey flow nicely

Best day ever

Book this trip. Very informative, fun, and well worth the money. Felix was an amazing guide, and made me feel like family. His knowledge is vast, and is passion is impossible to duplicate. If the weather isn’t perfect, he will find a way to make the day perfect. Book this trip, or be sorry you didn’t book it.

This tour was a long day, but 1000% worth it. We were so lucky to see the volcano erupt and have clear conditions. Our tour guide, Felix, was awesome - very knowledgeable and took great care of us. Definitely do this tour!

Comprehensive Tour

Joanne_H, Jan 2026
As the tour description states, this is a 12 hour tour. The tour was good except that it was raining and very foggy in Volcanoes National Park. Although the park webcams showed the red glow of the lava, our tour did not take us to this location, which was disappointing. There is also a large temperature drop to 40 degrees for stargazing so be sure to pack warm clothes. Seeing the full moon was amazing though.

Well worth it

Long day but worth it. Enjoy a little bit of a lot of experiences but the volcano at night is outstanding.

Felix is the best

Martin_G, Dec 2025
Felix, our tour guide, was an exceptional person. He was incredibly knowledgeable and caring, going above and beyond to provide umbrellas, rain jackets, windbreakers, and blankets to ensure our comfort during the tour. Despite the adverse weather conditions, he made an extra effort to obtain a clear view of the crater and the stars. God bless you Felix.

This is a very long tour...

Rima_B, Dec 2025
This is a very long tour with a lot of "fluff" stops - coffee farm, bakery, a random gift shop / bathroom stop for 20 min. Only 3 of 12 hours are spent in volcanoes national park. I wish they cut out the above, or even had a simpler non-restaurant dinner, so that we could spend 5-6 hours in the park. Our driver did not go back to Volcanoes to see potential "glow" at night, which was the main reason I booked this tour vs others (and this tour was the main reason I flew to big island for 2 days!!) Because of all the other fluff, after dinner, we only had time for 1 - either trying to go back to Volcanoes or stargaze. Our group opted for stargazing but we didn't even stop the vehicle bc of clouds. Wish we had gone back to see the glow instead! However, if we did stop, it likely would have been for 10-15 minutes - the guide reminded us that we were already at 12 hours and he had another tour the next day. To allot NO time to go back to the park and 15 minutes for stargazing for a tour that advertises both (in the name!) is kind of ridiculous. Fyi, the stargazing portion is with the naked eye - there is no telescope as some other tours have, which was also disappointing to find out but was a moot point bc of weather. Our guide did point out some stars in the parking lot during drop off as skies were clearer. Volcanoes was cool - highlights included the steam vents, lava tube, the craters - but each stop was 15-30 min. Being able to do a longer hike of 1-2 hours would have been amazing. Overall, it ended up being an underwhelming yet exhausting day, too much driving and stopping to really experience the full glory of the park. Knowing this, next time I'd rent a car and go myself or find a tour that spent the whole day. Our guide Dreu was very kind, knowledgeable, and accommodating but talked a mile a minute, and his energy was too much for several people on the tour. Something to consider if you're sensitive to that kind of thing. I'm sure the excursion would be way better with better weather, but I'm disappointed with how much time was wasted and that it resulted in not having time to go back to park after twighlight as advertised and stargaze.
