Dreu, our awesome Tour Guide. made this experience well worth the cost. Sharing his expansive knowledge and passion for the Hawaiian culture was educational and extremely thoughtful. Our group was so fortunate to see and experience above and beyond what we were expecting - seeing the lava glow in the crater and stargazing at the same time was Perfect!!! We would recommend requesting Dreu for an outstanding experience. Be prepared for weather changes because that is part of the experience. Mother Nature is So Amazing!!!

Great experience!

Leslie_E, Jul 2026
It is a long day, but filled with great experiences. Ample time at the various stops along the way. Good meals. Aaron was very knowledgeable about the stops and the island of Hawaii in general. Kilauea did not cooperate to give us a lava fountain but the return at twilight to see the glowing lava was special! The stargazing portion was informative as well.

Great time!

What a great time my wife and I had on our tour, Our tour guide was very friendly and informative., Be prepared for a long adventure, The tour company thought of everything from bottled water to windbreakers and jackets

Great fun with Felix!

Shanna_I, Jul 2026
Felix is very knowledgeable and the tour is a lot of fun! I learned a ton about volcanoes and the history and legends of the island. Definitely worth it! The stargazing was a great way to end the day, and we were well fed all day. He even brought chews to help make sure no one got car sick, and the ride was comfortable and safe. Definitely recommend this one!

Best guide on the island - Dreu

Sara_F, Jun 2026
Aloha! I think our guide would better be described as an artist. From the moment he picked us up until he dropped us off 13 hours later, he created an experience not just a tour. He started with sharing about the districts each of us were staying in, allowing us to each be characters in the adventure he designed. We learned about the eruptions from the past and present, how the people, culture, and roads have been affected, and we tasted and saw so much of the island. He was incredibly timely, allowing for us to hit everything planned, even adding in a second stop at the active volcano because it became more active after we left for dinner. There are so many little things he did throughout the day that added to the fullness of the adventure, I don't want to spoil the surprise by describing them all. But along with the Monday volcano tour, you could also schedule his Wednesday waterfall tour, things to consider... Best guide on the island! Hands down worth the cost!

Great Day on on the island of Hawaii

Maurice_L, Jun 2026
Our family of 5 thoroughly enjoyed the entire day. Our guide, Todd, was friendly and extremely knowledgeable of all relevant aspects of the island including the geological/volcanic, history, language, agriculture/coffee, and astrology. We had some tough weather in the National Park but Todd helped us get the most out of the day. The stops along the way were enjoyable and well timed. The food was quite good. I would recommend this excursion for anyone interested in a full day of fun, education and experiences.

Wonderful tour!

Felix was an outstanding tour guide—professional, knowledgeable, and incredibly thoughtful. He went above and beyond to make this long day tour enjoyable and fun from start to finish. Some examples of his exceptional service: he thoughtfully brought ginger candies to help with motion sickness. During dinner, we noticed flames visible from the crater, and he took the group back out so we could experience this amazing sight. Another highlight was the stargazing session. Felix’s passion and knowledge of the night sky made it truly memorable as he pointed out different constellations and the Milky Way. His enthusiasm, attention to detail, and genuine care for his guests made this long tour memorable. Highly recommended!

Its an experience of a lifetime. Our guide Derick was exceptional , explaining all the aspects of the volcano park and guiding us to all the major sites- lava tube, crater rim and the steaming volcano . In addition, it was well organized where you have a very tasty lunch and later a dinner, and plenty of stops in between- including a bakery with tasty treats. Finally, after seeing a wonderful views of red glow of the volcano We caped it all off with a beautiful night sky full of stars and planets- memory of a lifetime. Thank you!

This tour is fantastic. Felix was wonderful and full of energy and knowledge! Wear layers and comfy tennis shoes. It’s a long day so pace yourself. Also, use the bathroom whenever the opportunity presents itself!

Fantastic Tour

Charlean_K, Jun 2026
Great experience, our tour guide Felix was fantastic! We enjoyed learning about the history of the island, the human, plant & wildlife. We enjoyed every stop including the coffee farm where we were educated about the entire process, sampled varieties and shopped for souvenirs & even purchased some specialty Peaberry coffee to be shipped to us when it is processed. The Black Sand Beach was unique and we were happy to see resting sea turtles. The highlight of the 12 hour trip was off course the volcano tour. Kīlauea was not erupting sadly but we still were amazed to see an active volcano and loved being able to walk through previous lava river, experience the beauty and resilience of ʻōhiʻa lehua tree and the opportunity to get to walk through the lava cave. We are hoping to get to return to the island our next trip in February/March and we'd love to plan another excursions, such as the island circle tour and would hope to get to see an experience many more exciting and beautiful sites.

Amazing!

Great for all ages from 8 to 80

Brittiny_P, May 2026
Such a fun and informative trip! Derek our guide was outstanding and made it so much fun. We had a mixed group from my children (5 & 8) to my father in law (80) and it was fun and engaging for everyone! We loved the time in volcano and the mix of experiences for everyone!

Comfortable relaxing trip

Rachna_A, May 2026
It’s a long tour so that’s something to be mindful of if you have younger kids. Other than that it was really really fun. Our tour guide Todd was really very energetic, fun and humorous. He shared lots of very interesting information during the tour. He had warm coats and rain coats for different parts of the trip. He had snacks and water bottles. He was totally prepared and everything went very smooth. The van was very comfortable and we spent enough time at each spot. We got to see volcano eruptions as well. Overall highly recommend. Don’t forget to bring warm clothes as some parts of the tour can get very cold. .

Amazing Volcano Tour

Jeremy_M, May 2026
It was a fantastic tour! Long day but that was to be expected! Drew was the absolute best! Very knowledgeable and personable. We all laughed the entire tour! All the extra added touches and details by Drew kept us on our toes! We were able to see turtles at the black sand beach, saw so many elements of the volcanic national park and star gazed! Couldn’t have asked for a better experience!

Experience of a life time!

Christopher_S, May 2026
This is a worthwhile excursion while visiting Hawaii. Be prepared to spend 10 hours or more touring the island. Make sure you have warm clothes and rain gear with you. The island was extremely windy which made the volcano watch and stargazing was a cold experience but still worth every penny. The Kiauea Vocano started bubbling while we were there, an experience of a lifetime. Both meals were very good and if you needed jackets he had them as well. Don't come to The Big Island without doing this tour!

Lava, flora and stars!

Milantour, May 2026
Aaron our guide was an unbelievable wealth of knowledge! He narrated the entire trip with names, dates and places making this tour so interesting. We saw so much, giving us a real feel for the diversity of the island. We were very fortunate in that the volcano had erupted about a week earlier and was still spewing smoke.

Wow!!! and more Wow!!!

PamelaandDick_B, May 2026
Dreu Basaluda was an exceptional tour guide. He certainly wore a lot of hats both figurally and literally. He shared his knowledge about craters, volcano eruptions, plants Hawaiian culture, and even astromony with us. The tour was long and we couldn't have seen and done everything we did on The Big Island in a smaller amount of time. Thank you Wasabi Tours for having such a knowledgeable and fun tour guide. Our trip to The Big Island was "BIG" because of the Wasabii and Dreu experience.

Dreu is an awesome tour guide and is what made the tour memorable on top of all the sight seeing! His knowledge on all the best spots and incredibly positive energy makes this journey well worth it!

Candy_S, May 2026
It was so nice and Aaron was very knowledgeable! It was a great tour all around. The time goes by fast and it’s hard to believe we squeezed in all of the activities in that time (stargazing, watching the volcano- we saw lava and lava flow, and other cool things). I would definitely recommend this!

Volcanos, Lava and Black sand beaches

Christopher_K, May 2026
If you are lucky to get Todd as your guide you hit the jackpot. Very informative, with a little humor thrown in. Always making sure you are seeing what you expected to on this tour. Plenty of stops, and always informative about what you are seeing. He is an awesome guide for a tremendous tour.

Joel_G, Apr 2026
Great experience, Todd was the best very knowledgeable. Definitely bring some lite pants to wear in the spring time, it was a little cool during the star gazing part.

Fantastic way to see the island.

Renee_W, Apr 2026
Our tour guide, Felix, was the best. He is very knowledgeable about the Hawai’i and life on the island, the history, plants and animals and of course different forms of lava and the landscape. It is a long day, but well worth it…leave the driving to someone who knows the area. The van was very comfortable for the 12 of us, nice size group. Felix was prepared with snacks and water/juice, and offered jackets and umbrellas if people wanted them later on in the evening. The boxed lunch at the coffee plantation while we sat on a covered patio with a view of the farm/coastline. There were plenty of bathroom stops throughout the day. Black Sand Beach was another nice stop and we saw turtles in the water and petroglyph. It was also a good time to enjoy the wonderful Malasadas that we bought at the Punalu’u Bake Shop. Felix knew all the right stops for great views throughout Volcanos National Park. We saw the crater, walked through the rain forest and through a lava tube and saw where past lava flows ran into the ocean at the end of Chain of Craters Road where the coast line is very rugged. We visited the Volcano House on the NW rim of the crater with a good view of the steam raising from Kīlauea Crater. Dinner was at a nice, casual restaurant (Volcano Lava Rock Cafe) just outside the park entrance. It was dark when we drove the short distance back to the Volcano House to watch the red glow of the lava activity at the surface. On the way back to Kona via Saddle Road, Felix knew several great spots and stopped to look for stars. Unfortunately the clouds didn’t cooperate and only parted briefly to be able to see a star or two. The weather can be unpredictable, especially in Hawaii, but it didn’t change how we felt about this experience. It was all wonderful and we would do it again in a heart beat.

Review for Derek at Wasabi Tours

Apurva_L, Apr 2026
Derek was an incredible guide—so interactive, informative, and genuinely hilarious. He kept us laughing the entire time! Even though we missed the volcanic activity at the viewpoint, it started up while we were at dinner nearby. Derek immediately took us back on a detour to try and catch a glimpse. He is a wonderful, jolly, and amusing guide who truly goes above and beyond. Highly recommend!
