Itinerary
If you’re a fan of the Iditarod Trail, this kennel tour and dog-sled ride is for you.
Meet a musher team at the Turning Heads Kennel, a professional kennel with more than 50 huskies. Get to know the teammates and the dogs, and watch a short multimedia presentation about the trail. Hear about the personal experiences on the trail, and then frolic and cuddle with the puppies.
After a short stroll through the property, climb aboard a sled for a 1.5-mile (2-km) ride pulled by huskies. Soak up the beautiful landscapes, and pass an active eagle’s nest. The ride resembles little the cold and sacrifice many mushers experience when out on the trail, but you’ll nonetheless gain an appreciation of what the teams must endure in completing the race.
End your tour by hanging out a little longer with the friendly dogs.

We had a great time. We learned a lot. It was a bucket list experience for us. We can’t wait to come back and experience it on the glacier next time.

Amazing experience learning about mushing! Loved getting to know the dogs, snuggle the pups, and then taking a ride pulled by a team. Mushing is an awesome part of Alaskan culture, a must see. Thanks also to our guide Hunter!

This was such a fun experience. I would suggest wearing long sleeves, the dogs like to give hugs =) Getting to meet all the dogs, puppies, and hear about the race gear and preparations was a really cool insight.

I went on this tour with my daughter and her family (4 children). The tour was well organized, safety conscious and the whole family loved it. The puppies were fun for the kids to hold, the sled ride was exciting and gave us a taste of what it would be like to be on an Iditarod race. The presentation talking about what racers need to bring with them was informative. Overall a great tour.

What a fantastic experience getting to meet the dogs at the summer camp. Hunter was very informative and interesting. He had us meet the dogs, new puppies, and told stories of the Iditarod and supplies needed. The trail ride with the dogs was a highlight. The dogs were extremely enthusiastic and well taken care of. Highly recommend.

Family friendly and very informational. Our tour guides were amazing- they gave great advice and tips on approaching the dogs, shared adorable puppies, and lots of information on kennel operations and little bits and insights on Iditarod training and racing.

This was a wonderful activity! Being able to interact with the dogs and learn more about how they are trained was great!! The cart ride with 11 of the dogs pulling us was so fun! Our family (2 adult daughters and their fellas) all loved this experience!

Added this experience on last-minute the day before we got off of our cruise ship and it turned out to be one of our family’s favorite stops! We learned a lot about the iditarod race / culture, were treated to a thrilling dogsled ride around the grounds, and snuggled with 1 month old puppies. It was a dream! The guys who led the tour were very knowledgeable and experienced. 100% recommend if you are in the area or just passing through Seward.

This excursion was amazing. The animals are very well cared for and the staff was super friendly, helpful, and knowledgable about the pups and sport. You’re able to interact with all the dogs and watch them get hooked up to the trailer that you’ll be sitting on while getting pulled through the woods. You’ll see the dogs become super excited to get chosen to pull the trailer. It was a 10/10 experience.

SO much Fun! The dogs were sweet and energetic, we learned a lot about sledding that my young sons were actually able to tell others about several days later so you could tell they actually paid attention, the cart ride was faster than we expected and so much fun, and who doesn't love getting to cuddle PUPPIES!! Yes, our family had a fabulous time. :)
Marie_M, Jun 2025
It's important to know before you go, that these dogs are not house pets. They are trained to be outside and they love to race. So you may be a little surprised at their habitat. The guides were very informative and showed the equipment used during the iditarod.
Response from Host, Jun 2025
Thank you so much for joining us and for taking the time to share your thoughts! We’re glad you found the tour informative and enjoyed learning about the Iditarod and the equipment we use. You’re absolutely right—our dogs are trained working athletes who thrive in their outdoor environment, and part of what we love about these tours is helping guests understand what makes Alaskan Huskies so special.
If there’s anything we could have done to make your experience a 5-star one, we’d genuinely love to hear your feedback. Please send us an email at info@turningheadskennel.com
We’re always looking to improve, and your insights help us do that. Thanks again for visiting!

This experience exceeded our expectations! We thoroughly enjoyed learning from an incredibly knowledgeable Iditarod musher, touring the kennel, interacting with the dogs, and holding 3 week old puppies! Our guide, Hunter, was amazing— friendly, welcoming, and imparted so much knowledge. The tour ended with a fun ride with the dogs. If you love dogs and want to learn more about Alaskan Dogsledding, this tour is for you!

We’ve done other sled dog tours and this one is the best. Lots of hands on time with dogs and puppies and a friendly and knowledgeable staff. Dogs are dogs so be prepared to get a little dirty!

A bucket list item fulfilled. What a fun experience! We met the dogs, loved on them, got “paw-tographs” on our jackets and tons of kisses. Then they brought us two of the most beautiful puppies, both rescues. Then came the two mile run with the dogs on a special cart through the woods. One of the most special tours we have ever taken!!! Thanks to Travis and the gang for a special tour!!!
