See Arizona from a perspective that few visitors experience aboard the Verde Canyon Railroad. Glide through the beautiful wilderness of the American Southwest near Sedona. Ride in a vintage train car or open-air viewing car to get a great perspective on the region’s natural and cultural treasures. Departure Point: Verde Canyon Railroad Train Depot in Clarkdale, Arizona Address: 300 North Broadway Clarkdale, Arizona 86324 Directions: From Phoenix: Allow 2 hours for the drive • Take I-17 north to exit 287 (Cottonwood, Camp Verde, Clarkdale). Turn left (west) over the freeway on Hwy 260. • Stay on Hwy 260 for approximately 14 miles to the fifth traffic light. Turn left at light. This is Main Street (historic 89A). • Drive through Old Town Cottonwood, past the turnoff for Tuzigoot National Monument until you see a sign on the corner that says “Verde Canyon Railroad.” • Bear right onto Broadway, cross the one-lane bridge and park in the designated parking across the street from the depot. From Sedona: Allow 40 minutes for the drive. • Go southwest toward Cottonwood on Hwy 89A to Cornville Road/Mingus Avenue. • Turn right on Mingus Avenue and proceed west 1.8 miles to North Main Street (Historic 89A). • Turn right and continue on Main Street through Old Town Cottonwood, past the turnoff for Tuzigoot National Monument until you see a sign on the corner that says “Verde Canyon Railroad.” • Bear right onto Broadway, cross the one-lane bridge and park in the designated parking across the street from the depot.

As you travel back in time on this century-old route, admire the views from the open-air platform of your train. Take the opportunity to spot ancient cliff dwellings, old mining sites, and various wildlife, including bald eagles and antelope, throughout the journey.
View the river that can only be accessed by rail, then gather around to enjoy a Champagne toast and delicious appetizers. Continue on, watching red rock formations and landmarks such as trestles, bridges, and tunnels as you go by.
Finally, visit the John Bell Museum before heading back.

Michael was an extremely fun and smart guide. we rode in the scottsdale train car. lots of beautiful views no matter what side you sat on. the provided food was great and the drinks were fairly priced. would definitely do this again

Lunch that you receive at the depot is Outstanding!! Huge pulled Pork sandwich, salad, chips or fries and a drink.
Train ride is fun. Very nice views from start to from finish.

It was ok.
Not bad not great.
A little long of a ride, not back to the station till 5 pm.
The train was nice, the seats were comfortable and the cars were nicely air conditioned. Wish the windows were bigger for a better view.

This train ride experience was amazing! You get a free lunch voucher with the purchase of the train ticket, but get there an hour early to eat before the ride. Our bartender/host was fantastic. Very knowledgeable and entertaining for the entire trip. Oh and the views of the canyon were great of course!

It is very relaxing, entertaining but I had to go outside to thaw out. I wish there was some way to let you know about allergies to certain foods. My husband is highly allergic to grapes, juice, skin, anything made from grapes. As a rule, I do not give him even compartmentalized foods with grape in it. Even sitting at a table where grapes have been out triggers a horrible reaction where his breathing is affected.

Bar tender was great, interesting facts to learn , relaxing. Didn’t use food voucher but they had plenty of options, arriving 1 hour was unnecessary and it was hott out. Not good for young kids as could be boring after first hour!

What a great way to experience some of the history and scenery around Sedona! The train was comfortable with AC, leather or cloth seating, and a clean restroom. The open-air car allowed us to have clear views of the river and canyon, and moving between cars was easy. Our bartender Aiden and guide Craig both were so knowledgeable about the river and canyon, as well as the history of the area. They could answer all of our questions, and they both had a great sense of humor. We were so impressed with them! This is such a wonderful way to spend time in the Sedona area! We highly recommend!

Arrive early the drive down the mountain was scary, but worth it, sit on the couches for comfort but sit on the chairs for views.

Scenery was amazing. Hint, lunch is a bust if you get there with less than an hour plus...line was 30 minute wait, but train did have great appetizers on board. About halfway the train lost power in the cars...staff reacted quickly and did all they could to make us comfortable. They were fantastic and best part, we got a full refund BEFORE we arrived back in the station!

The power went out halfway through the ride. Not a big deal. got a little warm but the staff propped open the doors and we got a good breeze going. We got a full refund and an ice cream sandwich. Life is good. Otherwise, the trip and the scenery were great. Michele in the Pheonix car was great. She knows her job well. We will definitely go again. Oh, the power came back on halfway back to the station.

This railroad canyon ride was thoroughly enjoyable. The scenery was spectacular to say the last. The seating was extremely comfortable and the crew were very friendly and entertaining. We were provided meal vouchers before boarding the train and when we got to our seat there was an assortment of cheeses, meats, brownie and water. Overall a great experience that we enjoyed and highly recommend!

Easy check-in at the front desk. The train ride itself was beautiful, and our tour guide was informative, always giving us a heads-up about upcoming scenic views that were worth capturing on photo or video.
Upon boarding, we were greeted by friendly staff who escorted us to our assigned seats. Waiting for us was a charcuterie platter along with a glass of champagne or apple cider.
The ticket also includes a food voucher, which can only be used before boarding the train. I decided to save my meal until I got hungry during the ride. There were several great options available—I chose the turkey sandwich, which came with a choice of gluten-free macaroni salad, French fries, or a bag of chips, along with a small fountain drink.
The train also has an open bar where you can purchase additional beverages. The bartender was friendly and provided excellent service. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and I would definitely recommend it.
