Our tour guide Joseph was incredibly knowledgeable about the history, culture and current information on the Missions. He is personable and can answer any question you may ask him. He ride and he provided water. We left having a deeper understanding and appreciation of these UNESCO sites. He also dropped us off at our hotel after which was a special treat. My guide, Matt, was a good communicator, informative and personable. The van was comfortable and clean. There was a time to explore the sites up close. I learned a great deal and gained a new appreciation for the history.

Really in depth tour experience. Guide was very knowledgeable. Only issue is that I wish I had more free time to explore the mission sites myself instead of being lead through them

Joseph was a knowledgeable guide and very accommodating at dropping people off at different locations at the end of the tour. However, he would arrive at a mission and lecture while we were still in the van and some of the passengers were claustrophobic and uncomfortable. I have used Viator in several countries and have never had this experience. He seemed to want to lecture in the van and then let people wander at their leisure at each site. I would prefer someone who gives a true guided tour at each mission site. He actually seemed to start doing this somewhat later in the tour.

Our tour guide Joseph...

Our tour guide Joseph knew his stuff backwards and fowards. However, he would start talking and barely take a breath to allow for back-and-forth from our admittedly small group. By the fourth or fifth mission, we were burned out and had information overload. The tour time could have been cut down as we had too much time at each site. If I could do it over, I would have found some audio tours online or done some deep-dive history podcasts in advance and driven the route ourselves. On the bright side, each location had convenient water and restroom availability. The missions themselves are definitely worth seeing.

Fabulous Historical Tour

STACEY_R, Apr 2026
San Antonio missions were a great way to understand the founding of San Antonio. Our guide Joseph was incredibly knowledgeable and brought a true richness to the tours. As we were touring on Good Friday, his understanding of the local religious services and observances, we were able to see the missions while not disturbing the parishioners. We would highly recommend this tour for those with interest in the history of San Antonio and would recommend seeing the older missions before touring the Alamo.

Joseph was an awesome tour guide for this experience. He was knowledgeable and provided lesser known facts in addition to more popular historical information. We recommend this tour to anyone wanting a history lesson in these centuries old sites.

Heidi_J, Feb 2026
Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable, however it felt like our tour was being led by a text book. He gave so much information it was hard to process, and he didn't encourage interaction. Or if he did ask if there were questions we didn't want to ask because we knew he would launch into another long explanation. We were there on the hottest day in February since 1996 (we later learned). There were several times when the guide would give a long oration and have us standing in the sun when there was a shady spot available 20 feet away. We would likely not do this tour again and think we would have enjoyed seeing the mission more on our own.

Response from Host, Mar 2026

Sorry to hear you didn’t enjoy your experience and we thank you for bringing this to our attention.

A Mission tour well worth your time.

Jim_H, Feb 2026
As tour guides go, Joseph was the best. He is incredibly knowledgeable about the history of the Missions, the people, and their history. We learned so much from Joseph about the geography, culture, and people who made San Antonio what it is today. We highly recommend this tour.

Great use of four hours.

My only concern was we picked this tour because it included a walk through San Jose misdion with a park ranger. Our tour started backwards of its stated route and we did not get that tour.

Better than the Alamo

Paula_W, Feb 2026
If you like visiting the Alamo you will love this informative mission tour. Our tour lasted from 9am to 2pm. The time flew by but you may want to bring a snack of have a big breakfast.

Joseph shines the missions!!

Harper_C, Feb 2026
Joseph is fantastic!! He literally explains ever for the entire trip without a pause and highly knowledgeable and friendly. Definitely suggest to sign on this trip!!

Wealth of Knowledge

Lynn_Y, Feb 2026
Joseph, our guide, was truly an encyclopedia of knowledge. The tour was incredibly informative—so much so that it was a bit overwhelming at times and honestly hard to keep up. That said, we learned a lot, and his depth of information really showed how passionate and knowledgeable he is. Despite the pace, we very much enjoyed the tour and walked away with a much deeper understanding of the Missions and the people who who lived, worked, and worshipped there.

So much better than expected

Vicki_S, Jan 2026
Very knowledgeable and considerate guide, Joseph, made the trip memorable, informative, and very enjoyable. Like listening to your favorite history professor

Matt is a very knowledgeable and courteous guide. I was very happy that the tour was not canceled since I was the only person booked. The San Antonio mission tour provided a lot of history and insight about this area of Texas. I highly recommend.
