Asia is a knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide. We learned a lot about culture and class divisions during this period. The tour covered houses that were still standing and some that weren't. Fans of the TV show, The Gilded Age, will enjoy the tour even more. We recommend it!

The historic detail and the explanations of who the characters were during the golden age was delivered in a wonderful narrative across the full tour. You really got a sense of the period and how the elite lived. There is a good amount of walking but it is very easy and level.

Rosemary was very informative and interesting Took us to many mansions and gave a detailed history Well done

If you don’t like Gen. Sherman you can still do the tour

Bill of Untapped New York gave an excellent overview of the Homes and Plyerd of the Gilded Age of Manhattan , replete with scandal and character assassination (OK— a bit overstated— maybe a sign of our own times). A two hour, thirty block ramble up Fifth Avenue, learning the logic of historic development of the area’s majestic residences, the creation of Central Park, and the skin care regimen of General Sherman ( his statue, that is). A two hour walk on pretty even paavent, and an engaging activity for the middle of your day. Recommended.

A Must-Do NYC Experience

Julie_W, Jan 2026
The Gilded Age Mansion Tour was absolutely incredible. The guide was knowledgeable, engaging, and shared fascinating stories that really brought the era and the families who lived there to life. It’s such a unique way to experience New York City beyond the usual attractions. If you love history, architecture, or just appreciate timeless elegance, this tour is a must. I left with a deeper appreciation for the Gilded Age and the grandeur of old New York. Highly recommend!

Response from Host, Jan 2026

It means a lot to know the experience deepened your appreciation for old New York — we truly appreciate the recommendation!

No real tie in to the TV show

Terry_H, Dec 2025
The tour was interesting and informative. The tour guide was informed about the history of New York from 1870 to 1930. She didn’t have much knowledge about the TV show the Gilded Age. When I looked at other tours, some of them went inside the mansions. This tour does not go inside any mansions.

Something Different in NYC

Michael_C, Dec 2025
Interesting overview of the Guilded Age and NYC. A lot of walking, but no more than expected! Worth it!

This tour was absolutely FABULOUS!

heidi_b, Dec 2025
This tour came highly recommended from a friend and it didn't disappoint. And I say that having done it in 28 degree windy weather so it must have been good. Our guide was very knowlegable not only about gilded age history but history in general (a real buff.) He made the tour not only educational but fun. If you've seen The Gilded Age television show he did a good job of tying that in but even if you haven't you'll enjoy the historical. I'm a lifelong world traveller and can be particular but have only good things to say about this tour. I have already recommended to friends.

A cold day made warm by a great guide!

Milosh_C, Nov 2025
The tour is so much fun…extremely informative and knowledgeable guide that had really cool old photographs, stories & tid bits of information to go along with almost every address we saw. He remembers everyone’s names, takes care to keep track of everyone making sure we’re accounted for, safe & having fun!
