Itinerary

Following hotel pickup in the morning, depart Flagstaff on a roughly 3-hour drive northeast to Monument Valley. Along the way, you're treated to views of the San Francisco Peaks and volcanic fields. A stop is made at the historical Cameron Trading Post where you can browse the selection of Native American–crafted jewelry and artisan goods.

The drive continues across the expansive Navajo Nation reservation, which boasts postcard-worthy scenes of the Painted Desert Cliffs and landmarks like the Elephant Feet rock pillars. Hear from your guide about the cultural history of the Navajo people before arriving at the Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park, and savor a delicious lunch with impressive views overlooking the timeworn desert formations.

Then it's off for a guided tour of the valley floor. Stop at John Ford Point for an expansive view of the area, then come upon the West and East Mitten Buttes and see Totem Pole, Rain God Mesa, and more. Conclude your day trip with the return to Flagstaff and drop-off at your hotel.

Hollywood's Greatest Backlot, Not in Hollywood

AL_P, Aug 2021
I enjoyed the tour very much. My tour guide J.R. who worked on some the motion pictures filmed at Monument Valley, told great entertaining stories abut his experiences. I was picked up at my hotel on time in clean, comfortable van. J.R. was a very good driver and gave us info facts as we traveled. After a great meal, we went into the park, only an indigenous person could guide us through there. Our guide was “Larry”, a member of the Navajo tribe. Larry was friendly and knowledgeable about the history of his people. For the entire trip, I had the “I can’t believe I finally made it here”, feeling since I had been trying to get there for many years, and it did not disappoint. I would personally thank the tour, J.R., Larry, and the two people I traveled with, for making this a trip of a lifetime. The value was good for me, even though I would have spent more, but if you are a fan of classic cinema, especially westerns, it is a must see place.
