Our driver was so kind and knowledgeable. We loved our time at Tosho-gu and spending time in the mountains. Highly recommend if you'd like to get away from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo.

Nikko is a beautiful place to visit. The Shinkyo Bridge was beautiful and the Toshogu Shrine was truly awesome.

Beautiful country side, Interesting temples and nice scenery. Entrance fees are cash only. Long drive but worth it. Bek is a excellent guide.

Bek was our guide for the day. His English-speaking skills were first rate. Being a university student, he had studied the sites we chose to visit and gave us valuable insight and what to look for in points of interest. We are seniors and retired educators - we were impressed with his devotion as a professional tour guide. The whole day was customized to what we wanted to visit, of course guided by Bek's valuable input, particularly the physical exertion needed to climb stairs - many stairs! Nikko and the national park has remarkable UNESCO sites like no where else in the world. You need a guide like Bek to truly appreciate the icons of Japanese culture in this region.

Good tour. Our driver Haider was very professional and polite. Would recommend leaving early to beat the crowds. So worth it.

Despite the very cold weather and snow we had an enjoyable day with our young guide Shazoma san. He is quite knowledgable about Nikko and its history and the particular sites we visited. He also provided us some tips for places to visit in Tokyo.
Response from Host, Feb 2026
Thank you so much for braving the cold and snow — that already sounds like an adventure on its own. We’re so glad Shazoma was able to make the day enjoyable despite the weather.
It’s great to hear he shared meaningful insights about Nikko and even gave you extra tips for Tokyo. We’ll be sure to pass along your kind words to him — he’ll really appreciate it. Hope the rest of your trip was just as memorable.

Be prepared to walk a lot. Having said that, the scenery was beautiful. Next time, will return during the fall, I think it would be pretty with the fall foliage.
Bek, our driver was great! We finished on time and saw everything on the itinerary without feeling rushed.
Response from Host, Dec 2025
Thank you for sharing! We’re glad Bek helped make the tour smooth and enjoyable, letting you take in all the sights without feeling rushed. Sounds like a fall visit would be stunning—definitely worth returning for!

Absolutely incredible day with Haider!! Definitely ask for him! We hiked around Nikko National Park, saw the Toshogu Shrine and two beautiful waterfalls. He was a fantastic driver. Very attentive and very thoughtful about what to do for his guests. A+++

Great opportunity to experience the natural beauty of Japan with mountains, a lake and beautiful waterfall

Thank you for your kind words. We’re so glad you enjoyed experiencing Japan’s natural beauty and the wonderful scenery of the mountains, lake, and waterfall. We hope you’ll join us again for more adventures in the future.

We had a great time and our driver was very courteous and helped us purchase tickets for the attractions and helped us to order a vegetarian lunch. However, be aware that the driver is really not a tour guide as we were on our own to explore at each stop. This was fine for us but may not meet everyones expectations.
Response from Host, Jun 2025
Thanks so much again for your thoughtful feedback—we’re really happy to hear you had a great time overall and that your driver helped make things smooth, especially with tickets and lunch arrangements.
Just to clarify: while we do offer an option to book a Driver-Guide (someone who provides more in-depth commentary and stays with you throughout the stops), the service you booked was specifically for an English-Speaking Driver. This type of service is more focused on transportation and basic assistance rather than guided touring at each location.
It means a lot that you took the time to share your experience, and we’re glad it still worked well for you!

Great experience! Even though he was late because he had to change the car, he made up for it the rest of the day! This is a long but beautiful day and we would highly recommend it!
Response from Host, Jun 2025
Thank you so much for your understanding—we’re glad the rest of the day made up for the delay! Happy to hear you had a great experience overall. Appreciate the recommendation!

The tour to Nikko was wonderful! Rabs, our driver was a charming and friendly person that also guided us, suggested us sites that were not included in the plan originally we had, and agreed to prolong the day so we could visit and see everything we wished, till the evening. If you take a private tour, this company and driver are highly recommended.
Response from Host, Jan 2025
Hi Mady-san,
Thank you for your wonderful review! We’re delighted to hear that your tour to Nikko was a fantastic experience and that Rabs made it even more special with his charm, friendliness, and great recommendations.
It’s amazing to know he went above and beyond by suggesting additional sites and extending the day to ensure you saw everything you wanted. Your recommendation means so much to us, and we’ll be sure to share your kind words with Rabs.
We hope to welcome you back for another unforgettable journey in the future!

The tour is for 10 hours, in which the travel time is around 6 hours excluding the travel time between the sight seeing places, so you have to literally run through the spots to visit the main attractions. If you stay more time, you will be charged extra 5000 yen per hour!
Response from Host, Aug 2024
Hi Harris-san,
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We understand that traffic can be challenging, especially during holidays in Japan. To help mitigate this, we arranged for an earlier pick-up to give you more time at the attractions.
We also made sure to assign a luxury car with extra legroom, knowing that the journey to Nikko can be lengthy, especially with the traffic. Despite the delays, we're glad you were able to visit all the scheduled stops, and we appreciate your understanding that traffic conditions are beyond our control.
Thank you for your understanding and for choosing us for your trip.

As always Viator delivered exactly as advertised. A very full and enjoyable day. With an excellent guide. Would thoroughly recommend. Viator never disappoint.

Beautiful area of historic importance. Driver was first class and made sure we saw everything both scenic and cultural. Long day but could never have seen so much in one day on our own.

Glad we opted for this. All the other tour options for Nikko from Tokyo had the same 2-3 spots, but for some reason without the popular Shinkyo red bridge. Umer was a very considerate and safe driver, esp in the twisties near Kegon falls. We got to visit the usual Nikko Toshogu Shrine, Kegon Falls, the lake and Shinkyo bridge. All customized to our pace, plus we got to eat at this quaint pizza place with unique Nikko flavors. All we could have wished for, was for the driver to help take our pics, but for the basic service and customization, this was perfect.

Thank you for choosing our Nikko tour and sharing your positive experience! We're thrilled to hear that opting for our tour provided a unique and customized experience, including the must-visit spots like Nikko Toshogu Shrine, Kegon Falls, the lake, and the iconic Shinkyo red bridge. We're glad Umer, your driver, demonstrated considerate and safe driving, especially in the twisty areas near Kegon Falls. Your feedback is valuable, and we appreciate your suggestion about assisting with photos (feel free to ask Umer, and he’ll be more than happy to help capture those special moments for you) We're delighted we could offer a perfect and tailored experience for you. We hope to welcome you again for more memorable journeys!

I don’t remember reading this in the description of the tour, but it’s important to note that the drive from central Tokyo (we were two blocks away from Shinjuku station) to Nikko takes 150 minutes each way without major traffic jams. Best case scenario, you have five hours to spend visiting Nikko sites.
We avoided going on a weekend because, on weekends, the roads are jammed and the sites are packed. Our driver picked us up at 8:10am on a Wednesday and were very fortunate to be able to spend a full five hours and kept just one step ahead of the crowds.
We decided to follow our driver’s advice and started by first stopping at the Shinkyo Bridge. We spent about 20 minutes admiring the view and taking pictures. We then drove a few minutes to Nikkō Toshō-gū which was magical, even with all the other tourists. We spent more time there than our driver would have liked, but it was well worth it. By the time we were done, it was lunch time. The guide wanted to visit another site first, but we insisted that we go find lunch. The soba stand by the Shinkyo Bridge and it was fantastic. At that point we realized that we only had time to see two more sites before we had to hit the road back to Tokyo and we decided to go off script and visit Kanmanganfuchi Abyss and the Bake Jizo, somewhere our driver didn’t know about. It was a great 45 minute walk alongside the river. Recommended, for sure!
We ended our visit to Nikko at Tamozawa Imperial Villa. We decided to just walk the grounds because we were too tight for time to tour the actual building. Again, it was wonderful. 3:45pm arrived sooner than we had hoped and it was time to head back to Shinkuku.
Our driver was kind enough to make a couple of phone calls for us and try to get us dinner reservations in a nice restaurant (we had a list) back in Tokyo.
We arrived at our hotel at 6:10pm on the dot.
Overall, a great experience.

Thank you for sharing your detailed experience with us. We're glad to hear that despite the travel time, you were able to make the most of your visit to Nikko on a Wednesday, avoiding weekend crowds and spending a full five hours exploring the sites.
It's fantastic that your driver provided guidance and flexibility, allowing you to see various incredible spots, including the Shinkyo Bridge and Nikkō Toshō-gū
We're pleased that despite time constraints, you enjoyed each moment and that our driver went above and beyond, assisting with dinner reservations upon your return to Tokyo. Your detailed feedback is valuable, and we're delighted you had an overall great experience.

We had a very disappointing experience with this "tour". First of all, it is not really a true tour - you get a driver with a van, who will take you to different spots in Nikko, drop you off and pick you up - it is basically a taxi service. Our driver Umer was very nice but we were not offered a single word of history, overview, description of where we were going, etc. Even as we were being dropped off, the instructions of where to go and what to see were limited and confusing. We also got extremely unlucky with traffic on the day of our tour (Sunday) and, as a result, did not see anything other than the shrine, red bridge and about 5 min at the waterfall. We did not have time for anything else. I appreciate the tour company cannot control the traffic, but they should have known what it could be on a Sunday and warned us or suggested we pick another day. Of the 10 hours, we spent 8 in the van driving and sitting in traffic. Also, we were shown where to have lunch and basically stood in the restaurant where no one spoke English as the old woman who worked there ran around us mumbling something in Japanese very unhappily. We stood there for 10 min and then walked out. If the driver knew that this is how the people were at this recommended restaurant, I would have expected him to come in and ensured that we were being served if no one speaks English at the restaurant. Then we had to walk the streets of Nikko looking for another place to eat. Finally, the Viator website says this is a 10-12 hour tour. Yet, the tour company sent me a note saying that any hours over 10 would be charged at 3000 yen per hour as overtime, which I did not appreciate. I cannot control traffic either, so why should I be paying extra for something the company is much better positioned to control than me?

Hi,
Thanks for choosing us for your trip to Fuji. We're sorry you weren't completely satisfied, but we'd like to clear up a few things:
Our trip was not guided as mentioned in our description. Maybe that was missed, leading to expectations not being met.
The tour stops were rearranged slightly to avoid road congestion, not incorrect locations.
The driver has vast experience and knowledge despite your perception. The traffic on the return was unforeseen.
Regarding the vehicle, the air conditioning worked, and vibrations were from road features, not wheel imbalance. We keep our vehicles well-maintained.
Our rates are competitive and include quality service, but we apologize if this didn't meet your expectations.
We'd love to offer you another experience in the future. Just let us know your preferences, and we'll make it right.
Best Regards,
Krizzia

Our guide, Anees, was professional and on time. He picked us up at the pre-arranged hotel lobby and was patient to wait for our elderly tour mates. Though there was congestion and reroutes due to the typhoon, Anees navigated them well and even took us to a very well-equipped highway rest stop! It was a restful day trip with lots of nature and beauty to soak in. Be prepared for a total of 4h in the comfortable vehicle for the journey to and fro and bring some snacks to munch on the way.

A good day but a long drive. Suggest you don’t spend too long at bridge and waterfall as the temple and the palace are unique and require more time than we had. We recommend eat lunch in the car and don’t wSte time in restaurant as the food is average.

Tanaka was very attentive. I had a food allergy and he made sure he checked with the different restaurants to make sure they were able to accommodate my allergy then sat with us to make sure i was able to order something I could eat. He asked questions about our interests so he could adapt the tour and make sure we got to see the things that we would enjoy. A very pleasant and kind person.
