We recently booked a six-hour customized Tokyo tour through Viator and overall had a really enjoyable experience. Our guide, Maki, was incredibly sweet, thoughtful, friendly, and easy to spend the day with. She had a very warm personality and made the experience feel comfortable and relaxed from start to finish.
The areas we chose to explore were Asakusa, Meiji Shrine, Harajuku, and Shibuya, which gave us a really fun mix of traditional and modern Tokyo. One thing we especially appreciated was how flexible and accommodating Maki was throughout the day. In Harajuku, we decided to stop for coffee and get latte foam art made of our pets, which ended up being one of the most memorable and unexpectedly fun parts of the tour. For lunch, Maki asked about our preferences and found a sushi spot she had researched for us that turned out to be absolutely delicious.
One issue we did encounter involved transportation logistics. We had originally arranged hotel pickup from the Hilton Tokyo Bay near Disney, but the day before the tour we were informed that traveling out there would take too much time away from the tour itself, so we would instead need to meet in Asakusa. While we completely understand the reasoning — Disney is definitely outside central Tokyo — it would have been very helpful to know this earlier, especially since we booked the tour well over a month in advance. Having to suddenly rearrange transportation plans the day before added a little unnecessary stress.
To their credit, they did try contacting me the day before via WhatsApp and the hotel front desk. However, we were at the Disney park all day and didn’t get the message until we got back to the hotel. Trip for future travelers: before arriving, download and turn notifications on for the WhatsApp so you don’t miss calls.
Another small downside was beginning the tour in Asakusa very early in the morning. We had hoped to spend some time shopping there, but most of the stores were not open yet, so we missed out on that aspect a bit.
As for the guiding itself, Maki did a great job navigating the city and keeping the day moving smoothly. Her friendliness and positive attitude were absolutely the highlight of the experience. I would say the tour leaned a little more toward a relaxed, casual day exploring Tokyo together rather than a deeply historical or cultural deep dive. We’ve done another Tokyo tour in the past with a government-licensed guide who shared much more detailed historical and cultural information, so that was the main difference we noticed here. That said, if you’re looking for a slower-paced, easygoing experience with a younger, very kind and personable guide, this tour could absolutely be a great fit for you.
Overall, we had a very good day and appreciated Maki’s kindness and effort throughout the experience.

Our tour guide was very nice and polite. But very inexperienced. He told us he was only been doing this for two months. We went with this tour because we thought that we would have an experienced tour guide, especially for someone who is visiting Japan for the first time. Out of the four hours, we spent at least an hour and a half getting on subways trying to go to different places that the itinerary promised us, but it was absolutely impossible so the itinerary should’ve not included all the places that they said it would took much longer to get from one place to another. Unfortunately, this tour did not meet expectations of how the website described it.

We had an excellent private city tour in Tokyo with Naoki as our guide. He spoke excellent English, had a great sense of humour, and made the entire day enjoyable and easy to follow.
As a Tokyo local, Naoki had fantastic knowledge of the city, its history, and local culture. He shared so many interesting insights that we never would have learned on our own. One highlight of the day was a wonderful tempura lunch at a quaint local family-run restaurant, which gave us a truly authentic Tokyo experience.
One of the most helpful parts of the tour was how he taught us to navigate the train system confidently and even helped us organise tickets for the next leg of our trip.

Naoki was…. The bomb and some more. We are avid travelers and we love traveling, but we understand tourist traps are really not what we enjoy…. And Naoki did just that, he went on the itinerary but listened to what we liked, and really allowed us to go to hole-in-the-wall places that catered to our liking. He spoke very well, jokes with us, and really made just feel like Tokyo is home. He made sure we got home safe by telling us which train to take. We would easily recommend Naoki to anyone.

Ikuto provided an absolutely fantastic tour for us. He was communicative before the tour and allowed us to pre-plan and customize our route, and arrived on time. Ikuto's English is very good and he was able to provide a bunch of interesting facts about all the places we visited. In addition, he was flexible with the pace of the tour to allow us to get around comfortably. Our experience was very positive and so much better than if we had visited those places on our own.

Maki was a great tour guide. My only complaint is that I thought we were going to the Imperial Palace but we did not. We did go to the Yanaka Ginza (quite a way's away from Shinjuku). The Ginza was very interesting, traditional appearance with lots of coffee shops, bakeries and souvenir shops. Lots of interesting items to buy and eat. Had a "Cookie Cake" which should have fed 2!!! Then went to Shibuya Crossing which everyone should experience. Lots of fun. THOUSANDS of people cross every day.

Best start to our tour of Japan. We had 6 hours with our guide Zenji, and wish we had booked for longer. Zenji collected us from our hotel and took us around the highlights of Tokyo using public transport. He took us to shrines, and told us the history and etiquette to ensure we got the most from our visit. He chose a fabulous local restaurant for lunch in Tsukiji Market that we would never have found on our own. Local knowledge being invaluable. There is a lot of walking. Getting from one spot to another takes times as you use public transportation. Be specific about your meals. If you’re not adventurous about food tell them.
Try to have a list of possible places. This way you get to see what you want.

Skip this one. Although our guide, Yu was super nice, she didn’t seem to be well informed about the city. Turns out, she’s lived here only a year. We spent way a lot of our day on the train or walking to the train. We started at the market but didn’t know we’d be going there first and we’d just had breakfast. That was kind of a waste although it was interesting to see it. The temple seems like a tourist trap. Very crowded and lot of vendors selling souvenirs. The palace might have been great but after taking forever to get there, turns out it was closed. I feel like our guide should have known that.

First, we would like to clarify that all of our guides, including Yu, go through extensive training and testing before leading tours. While Yu has lived in Tokyo for approximately one year, she has completed our professional guide training program and has successfully guided many guests.
Regarding the time spent on trains and walking, Tokyo is one of the largest cities in the world, and traveling between major attractions often requires the use of public transportation and some walking. This is a normal part of exploring the city efficiently.
As for the visit to Tsukiji Market, many guests enjoy seeing the lively atmosphere even if they are not hungry, as it is one of Tokyo’s most famous cultural and food destinations.
Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa is one of Japan’s most historic and iconic landmarks. It is indeed very popular and can be crowded, but it is considered an essential cultural site for many first-time visitors to Japan.
Regarding the Imperial Palace, we sincerely apologize that part of the area was closed on the day of your visit. We understand your disappointment and appreciate your understanding.

We had an outstanding experience in Tokyo thanks to our guide, Ikuto. He met my adult son and me at our hotel right on time, and from the start, everything felt easy and well organized.
Ikuto connected naturally with both of us and made the day feel personal rather than scripted. We covered an incredible amount without ever feeling rushed, including Senso-ji Temple, Meiji Jingu Shrine, Harajuku, Tokyo Tower, TeamLabs, and the Shibuya Crossing.

We had a wonderful day in Tokyo with our fantastic private guide, Fuma. He was informative, understanding and assisted us in every way. Fuma took us to the Sensoji Temple area in Asakusa by train, something we could never have done on our own, considering Tokyo's complex train network! Fuma's cultural and historical knowledge was excellent, and we learned so much about the culture and religion of Japan in such a short time. He arranged the best shopping opportunities for us in the surrounding area, and found an amazing Sushi restaurant for lunch, before returning us safely to our hotel. A fantastic day, and we highly recommend Fuma if you're looking for a top-level private guide!

This was a great first day tour in Tokyo. It gives you a good overview of the city and how to navigate the area. We had Maki as our tour guide and she was a delight! She was very accommodating and knowledgeable and was eager to make the tour tailored to us and what was important for us to do and see.

My wife and I can’t say enough positive things about this tour and our entire experience. Shoma understood that we were looking to see as much as we could in eight hours while never feeling rushed. He was able to plan out an itinerary that included temples, markets, great food, pop culture, historical landmarks, and wonderful insight into Japanese society and history. We got to become pros on the subway and got a great initial orientation of the city. Shoma is such an easy going, kind, and insightful tour guide. It felt as if we were all just good friends hanging out and talking. Shoma really went out of his way to make sure we were getting the exact experience we were hoping for.
