Nice walk around and tastings of different local places. We enjoyed some fresh sushi, a variety of local dishes, and ended with a nice sweet dessert snack cake! We saw godzilla and the big kitty just at dusk so all the lights were coming on. Great guide and fun group to have dinner with

We went to several places and had a great variety of delicious food and drink and history. Highly, highly recommend this tour. We went with 3…my wife, son and me. Loads of fun!!!

If you’re looking for an authentic taste of Tokyo, this food tour in Shinjuku is an absolute must! Our guide, Yuki, was incredible—her deep knowledge of Japanese cuisine and the local history of the district really made the experience special. The Highlights • Fresh Seafood Lunch: We started with a fantastic spread of sashimi and fried tuna. It was the perfect introduction to the quality of ingredients here. • Traditional Pairings: We got to sample traditional drinks like sake and plum wine, which paired perfectly with the meal. • Hidden Gems: Yuki led us to another part of the district to try pork tempura. It was absolutely delicious and something we might have never found on our own. • Okinawan Flavors: The absolute standout was trying the food from Okinawa. It was a unique and flavorful highlight that we’ll be talking about for a long time. Final Verdict Overall, this was a stellar experience. We walked away with full stomachs and a much better understanding of both Japanese food culture and the history of Shinjuku. Yuki is a fantastic guide who is clearly passionate about her city. We highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Tokyo!

Fun time in Shinjuku

Julia_C, Jul 2026
Great! Nice experience! Great way to try places we wouldn’t have otherwise gone into. It’s great when most of the restaurant is filled with Japanese people.

Much more than a food tour!

Catherine_H, Jul 2026
Our tour guide, Igor (Iggy), took us on much more than a food tour. The food experience itself was excellent with a wide range of quality dishes to try eat. We were bursting at the seams by the end. He gave a thorough background to each dish and explained the cultural traditions. We also came away with a much greater understanding of Japanese history and culture as well as some very interesting and surprising insights into Shinjuku!! The group bonded well and everyone had a great time. I highly recommend this experience.

Food tour review

Diane_C, Jul 2026
This food tour and our guide was excellent. It was a very hot day and she made sure to keep checking on our welfare to insure we were well hydrated. We ate the freshest fish and sampled some delicious pork cutlets. Although I don’t drink alcohol, many in our group did enjoy some drinks. We ended with some yummy fish shaped waffles stuffed with custard. A great venue.

Highly recommend

It was a great night, my favorite thing we did in Tokyo. It was a great introduction into the city and a wonderful way to try different authentic Japanese food.

Great food and sighting with a wonderful guide

Vicki_S, Jul 2026
This was great tour for our first day in Tokyo. It gave a quick introduction of Shinjuku area with delicious food. We were stuffed and learned the history of different Japanese cuisines. Hochi was a wonderful tour guide with good knowledge and patience.

Fun filled night with Elena

Kelly_S, Jul 2026
So appreciative of Elena taking us around, we had her vast knowledge and great humour through so many tastes. Finishing the night with with seeing the LED screen with the cat made the night extra special.

Great guide, but disappointing food

Amy_W, Jul 2026
Our host, Jack, was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. He made sure everyone was looked after and had a fun experience. However, we were very disappointed with the choices of venues for the food tour. We found them to be primarily very touristy, and the food was not very good quality. For example, we started with some seafood that didn't seem to be very fresh, which was a shame considering how much great seafood there is in Tokyo. We made four stops, one of which was very brief (dessert at the end of the evening), and none of them were very special. They also didn't seem to be Tokyo-specific food locations - for example, one of our longer stops specialised in food from Okinawa. Again, the experience was saved by how great Jack was as a guide. Our whole group really bonded with him, and he was super smiley, helpful, and considerate throughout the tour. Our issues with the locations selected do not at all reflect on Jack himself.

Wonderful Food, Drink and History Tour

Ok but expensive

William_I, Jul 2026
Very good experience, though it was expensive for what you get. Standing outside a restaurant and eating from a common plate with toothpicks in the street was not what I had expected.

Tasting your way through Shinjuku

Eric_W, Jul 2026
Our guide (Tao) was a delight. She was very knowledgeable and knew how to explain the different types of foods we tasted. She was also very attentive and able to answer our questions about the diff dishes. We had a wonderful time and would def recommend this tour and with Tao as our guide

This was a really fun way to see Shinjuku and taste a variety of interesting foods. Igor was an awesome guide full of history and information. He was fun and chill and spoke perfect English. We loved bouncing questions off of him for his perspective. Be aware that you will do a bit of walking between stops, but you get to see more of the city! Thanks Igor!

The Best Food Tour

The best food tour in the whole world. Lloyd provided the perfect balance of local information and foodie detail. All the food we ate was delicious.

Laura_M, Jul 2026
Terry was an exceptional guide! He gave great detail at every stop and included information about Tokyo - some of the food was personally a miss but I expected I might not love everything. It’s worth it.

Terrific tour!

Stephanie_N, Jul 2026
Woosang is a terrific guide, and there was more than enough food. Great conversations and great experience.

Roxanne_R, Jul 2026
It was a wonderful experience jun our tour guide was fantastic! Food was amazing the sushi was so fresh!

Delicious food tour

Natalie_B, Jul 2026
We ate well and different delicious dishes. The guide was friendly and easy to understand. We liked him. He also kept the group together well and was fun. It wasn't rushed and felt like a group of friends going out for dinner. I enjoyed seeing Shinjuku at night. However I expected more information from the guide about food.

Basic Food Tour

Cynthia_M, Jul 2026
Our guide on this tour on 5/31/26 was friendly, engaging and knowledgeable. The tour itself included 4 tastings, but only 2 were in actual restaurants. The other 2 were either standing outside of the restaurant eating from toothpicks or in the street in front of the desert stand. We did a nice walk around the area, but we definitely did not go to Golden Gai, which was listed on the itinerary and one of the main reasons I chose this tour. Nor did we stop at any restaurant in a narrow alley, a quintessential Japan experience. The tour was fun, but it felt routine and basic and lacked the sense that we found any gems anywhere. We've been on food tours all over the world, and this one was not that exciting from a food and restaurant perspective; I felt surprised at the other good reviews that it received. This was not the fault of the guide, but of the itinerary itself. My 4 stars is generous because of the guide and the nice group we were with.

Must do experience

Heather_C, Jul 2026
We had an absolutely fantastic evening on the Shinjuku Food Tour with Yitao! From the moment we met, she was warm, knowledgeable, and made everyone feel welcome. She did an incredible job explaining not only the different areas of Shinjuku but also the history, origins, and traditions behind each dish we tried. It made the experience so much more meaningful than just eating great food. Yitao was also incredibly thoughtful about everyone's dietary restrictions and personal tastes, making sure each guest had delicious options and felt included throughout the tour. The pace was perfect—never rushed, with plenty of time to enjoy each stop, ask questions, and soak up the atmosphere. Every dish was excellent, and the variety of restaurants gave us a wonderful introduction to Japanese cuisine, from traditional favorites to modern izakaya fare. The food was outstanding, and Yitao's passion for sharing Japanese culture really shone through. If you're looking for an authentic, informative, and delicious way to experience Shinjuku, I couldn't recommend this tour—and especially Yitao—more highly. It was one of the highlights of our trip! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

May was an excellent tour...

Noah_G, Jul 2026
May was an excellent tour guide and great company as I had the whole tour to myself. She was very knowledgeable about the food and any other random questions I had. An absolute highlight of my trip.

Absolutely Worth It!

Chris_J, Jul 2026
I booked this tour for my first full day in town. I did so knowing I had a full day tour planned shortly before it, and so, as always, I wondered if I should go through with it or take a rest. Ultimately, not knowing how to make the most of the variety of foods without some guidance, I figured I’d rest later and I’m glad I did! Enter Woosang, a gracious host and tour guide with a unique perspective, good sense of humor, and a friendly way about him. There were great foods and drinks to be had by all, and one other thing I think Woosang was really good about was providing a balance between informing us about the history of Japan as well as Shinjuku, and interacting with those of us on the tour/giving us the space to interact with each other! That’s what makes great tours in my book, and this one was exceptionally so.

Great Tour with a variety of foods!

Kenneth_K, Jul 2026
Izzy was excellent. Great knowledge of much about Japanese culture and a great night on the town for 3 or so hours. Definitely filling!

Great evening of Japanese food

Chase_C, Jul 2026
Kanato was a great guide for my tour. Provided great knowledge about the food we were eating and some advice on other things to try while in Japan.

Good Food

Jack_C, Jul 2026
All the food we had was absolutely excellent. Rated 4 stars only because our guide was super friendly but didn't seem to have a lot of knowledge about the food itself which was slightly disappointing. Other than that it was great.

Shinjuku culinary experience

Michael_C, Jul 2026
Izzy was an excellent guide and took us to several restaurants where we enjoyed some excellent local dishes - great variety and wonderful food and drinks!! We highly recommend the tour to become acquainted with many different styles of food! Izzy completed our tour with an insightful walking tour of the Shinjuku area with many of her local insights - really interesting and helpful - 5 stars for tour snd Izzy!!
