If you’re looking for an authentic taste of Tokyo, this food tour in Shinjuku is an absolute must! Our guide, Yuki, was incredible—her deep knowledge of Japanese cuisine and the local history of the district really made the experience special.
The Highlights
• Fresh Seafood Lunch: We started with a fantastic spread of sashimi and fried tuna. It was the perfect introduction to the quality of ingredients here.
• Traditional Pairings: We got to sample traditional drinks like sake and plum wine, which paired perfectly with the meal.
• Hidden Gems: Yuki led us to another part of the district to try pork tempura. It was absolutely delicious and something we might have never found on our own.
• Okinawan Flavors: The absolute standout was trying the food from Okinawa. It was a unique and flavorful highlight that we’ll be talking about for a long time.
Final Verdict
Overall, this was a stellar experience. We walked away with full stomachs and a much better understanding of both Japanese food culture and the history of Shinjuku. Yuki is a fantastic guide who is clearly passionate about her city.
We highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Tokyo!

Although the guide was great, the food was not very good. We went to a fish restaurant, an Okinawa style restaurant, a katsu pork stand, and stand for a pancake dessert
The food was delicious, we ate so much. It was the perfect amount of walking with lots of picture opportunities along the way. Our tour guide was so helpful, she recommended lots of other food places throughout the city. A must try tour.
The tour was amazing, mixing food and a bit of history. our guide, Jasmine K, was engaging and so knowledgeable. Her places for food were so good we went back the next day. I highly recommend this tour and I hope you are lucky enough to have Jasmine K as your guide!

Choice of eateries was subpar and food was as well. Dirty establishments and in some cases we stood on the street with a tray of samples, or had to climb 3 flights of stairs. With thousands of restaurants in Tokyo, the choices were subpar
This tour entails quite a bit of walking around the Shinjuku district. Make sure you take an umbrella ☂️. The tour was fantastic and our guide was delightful.
Our group of 8 family/ friends enjoyed our guide Daniel. He shared his knowledge of the long standing history behind Shinjuku and post war food initiatives to keep the local families fed during such hard times. Our 4 food stops were delicious and Daniel told us many interesting food culture stories behind many of the foodie items we shared together!

Kai was our tour guide and he couldn’t have been nicer. He spoke English so well and was so helpful. We tried a large variety of foods that are unique to Japan and he was very knowledgeable.

Great way to walk around Shinjuku and taste many specialities of Japan. Our guide Emma was fantastic and added to the evening. Go at night to experience the lights! Plenty of food to choice from, highly recommend!
This tour is a scam. Please don’t waste your money, I don’t know how they got 9000 reviews at 4.9 star. All the food was fried, or used tofu, and spam. Outside of the sashimi is was very low quality ingredients. The tour guide has no food experience or knowledge. No only viable for someone without a phone or ChatGPT.Only of value for those who are extremely new to traveling and do not have chatGPT and basic basic travel skills.
Ma was an amazing guide who made sure our family and friends were taken care of and all of our questions answered. He took the time to make sure we understood all the dishes and provided recommendations on good places for food. He was willing to go the extra mile to make himself available even after the tour ended if we had any questions while in Japan. Can’t recommend him enough if you are travelling with kids or as a larger group!
This was a great experience to see Shinjuku at night. But it all depends on your guide and Riki was excellent. Super friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. Riki guided us through the amazing tastes and foods of Tokyo and at the same time some history. He was very patient as we got a little lost but he guided us through on the phone so we could make the meet. We really enjoyed his company. I would highly recommend this tour.
Great way to experience amazing food and learn about Japan. We started our Japan trip with this food tour and would recommend for anyone who is traveling to Tokyo. Riki was a great tour guide and made the experience much more enjoyable.
Managed to get a little bit of history and some background to the various foods we tried. First place we visited was the standout of the two venues.
Peter was really good guide, he showed us really good places and restaurants in Shinjuku, prolly places we would never visit on our own and we had the best time.
Not too much walking, lots of delicious variety of food and drinks and ended with dessert. Was enjoyable and worth it.
