Japanese Archery Experience HIROSHIMA CASTLE SHARAKU

Kyudo is a Japanese martial art based on shooting an arrow from a Japanese bow to a target to reach a complete focus of mind and body. The main difference of kyudo and western archery is that, in kyudo, every movement follows a traditional routine that pays respect to the equipment and to the opponent. You will come to the archery range and dress in an authentic kyudo uniform, which will include dogi—the upper wear—and hakama—the lower wear. I'll give a brief explanation about the art of kyudo as well as instructions and demonstrations. With the knowledge you'll gain, you will learn to shoot arrows at the target. You'll also understand the fun and challenging aspect of the sport, particularly while wearing the traditional hakama and armor. Usually in kyudo, you are not allowed to pull the arrow unless you master the basics. But during our lesson, you will be able to enjoy the real kyudo experience even as a complete beginner. Kazuko was an amazing...

Kazuko was an amazing guide with a deep first hand connection to the Hiroshima bombing. Obviously, that portion of the experience was moving and somber, but it was also somewhat uplifting with a spirit of peace. A great day spent visiting Hiroshima and also the Atomic Bomb Memorial. Amigo Tours did a nice job with our bullet train tickets and our tour guide Angeles was phenomenal. A very knowledgeable person and managed both Spanish and English during the tour. Angeles also ensured to bring an empathetic approach to her description of the Atomic Bomb Memorial which is important given the many viewpoints of what happened. Truly a day well spent and be prepared to walk.

At first I thought this was a little expensive however our guide Sachiyo Oki was so knowledgeable. She took all the stress out of navigating the experience. She took us to a lovely restaurant to sample the traditional japanese food Okinomiyaki, which was delicious. We all had a very special day and enjoyed being in her company. Worth the money!

From the moment we booked our private tour, to being back home, the tour company and then our guide had excellent communication. We met our guide Emmy at the Shin-Hiroshima station and she immediately helped us navigate the station and be on our way to Miyajima. Having a second-generation Hiroshima survivor lead us through our day was wonderful and we were able to tailor the day to meet our interests. Emmy provided answers to our questions, information on what we were seeing, and gave ample time for exploration and photos. After Miyajima we headed back to Hiroshima for the tour to continue with more historical perspective and even a detour to a calligraphy store! She was patient when we wanted to buy snacks or were in the museum. We felt fortunate to have spent the day with this amazing tour guide. It was a long day for all of us and Emmy made sure we weren't overwhelmed with information. She stayed with us all the way back to the Shin-Hiroshima station and made sure we got through with our tickets before departing. Following the tour, she sent photos that she took of our family throughout the day which was very much appreciated.

Moving Hiroshima & Miyajima tour with a fantastic guide

Truly amazing day with our guide Minori. We started with a ferry to Miyajima to see the “floating” torii gate and explore the shrines around the island. From there we took a high-speed ferry into Hiroshima and grabbed lunch at a local Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki spot. We even ran into a few locals there, always a good sign you’re in the right place. The afternoon shifted gears. We walked through the Peace Park starting at the hypocenter, then traced the impact across the surrounding buildings and streets. Minori didn’t rush it or sugarcoat anything. She gave context, told real stories, and let the weight of it land. It was especially moving hearing her personal connection, her mother was in a nearby village and saw the blast from a distance. That kind of perspective sticks with you. It’s heavy, but it’s something everyone should experience at least once. If you’re on the fence, book the tour and ask for Minori. She’s organized, thoughtful, and knows how to balance a full day without it feeling rushed or scripted.

Our Hiroshima and Miyajima tour was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan, and much of that was thanks to our outstanding guide, Angeles from Chile. From the moment the tour started, everything ran like clockwork. We departed on time, travelled in comfort, and returned exactly as scheduled—a testament to the excellent organization of the trip. Our adventure began with a pleasant boat ride to Miyajima Island. As soon as we arrived, the first residents to welcome us were the famous deer. Unlike some overly enthusiastic wildlife elsewhere, these deer were charming, polite, and seemed genuinely interested in meeting visitors. It was a delightful and memorable encounter. Angeles then guided us through the history and significance of Miyajima's famous Itsukushima Shrine. She explained the spiritual importance of the shrine, known for its iconic floating torii gate that appears to rise from the sea during high tide. Her storytelling brought centuries of Japanese culture and tradition to life, making the visit far more meaningful than simply admiring a beautiful landmark. One of the many fun moments of the tour was when Angeles taught us the Japanese word "Talaima”. Whether we pronounced it correctly or not is another story entirely, but it certainly added to the cultural experience and gave us all a good laugh. What truly set Angeles apart was her remarkable ability to keep the entire group engaged. She delivered her explanations fluently in both Spanish and English, seamlessly switching between the two languages without missing a beat. Her enthusiasm, warmth, and storytelling skills held the audience in rapt, almost mesmerizing attention. History lessons can sometimes feel like homework in disguise, but Angeles transformed them into captivating stories that everyone wanted to hear. After Miyajima, we continued to Hiroshima, where Angeles provided thoughtful and moving explanations about the Peace Memorial and its symbolism. She carefully explained the historical significance of the monument and the powerful message it conveys about peace, remembrance, and hope for future generations. Her presentation was informative, respectful, and deeply impactful. This tour offered the perfect combination of history, culture, education, and enjoyment. Between the scenic boat ride, the friendly deer, the magnificent shrine, the moving visit to Hiroshima, and Angeles's exceptional guiding, it was an unforgettable experience. Good 2-part tour....

Good 2-part tour. Hiroshima Peace Park was a great place, though it was a little crowded, lots of school children. The Peace Museum has a large permanent exhibition of photos, artefacts and records, maybe take care deciding whether to bring kids here. But for us the real highlight was Miyajima, we would have loved to have spent more time there. Our guide was great, lots of information and interesting stories to share.

Great guide, Cesar, for a great tour.

This tour had all the sights and sounds and smells anyone would need on that special island and then to come back to Hiroshima City Center for the monuments tour was exceptional. Cesar, our guide, was efficient in his knowledgeable explanations and his guiding of us. Hiroshima and its nearby island will forever be in our hearts and mind's eyes.
