This tour was fantastic. My guide had an extensive background in art as well as being an artist herself. She tailored our tour based on my interests and made sure to include discussions regarding local Santa Fe history for context.

We learned how to view art and interpret what you think the artist was trying to convey. We also got history tidbits about the artists that settled on Canyon Road and how they arrived there.

Guide was very knowledgable, pleasant and willing to answer questions. We had booked the entire tour to ensure a privatized experience but the guide indicated that it was a set itinerary. She did try to change up the gallery stops to suit our interests
Response from Host, Jun 2024
Gayle, thank you for your review. I responded to you privately via direct message. I am also responding here for the benefit of other travelers who might have questions about this.
This is a private tour, however, it is not a customized tour. Unfortunately it seems that Viator updated the tour description without our knowledge to indicate that this tour can be customized. This is not correct, and we will be taking this up with Viator immediately. Like most tours, this one follows a set route and schedule. I understand that the guide did her best to accommodate your requests on the spot and ensure that you would see artwork that interested you.
For reference, customized gallery tours can be booked through Santa Fe Art Tours directly. I am sorry that you did not receive the experience you expected.

We had heard about the Canyon Road Art community and heard that there were tons of places to go. We did not want to be overwhelmed and opted to sign up for a tour. We met Elaine and she exposed us to a number of different types of art from indigenous to abstract, from paintings to sculpture to pottery and beyond. She had each of us to select what we liked then asked questions to get us to interpret why we liked what we liked. My wife and I liked different things but our discussions went beyond . "I like that". Because this was more than a southwest painting and jewelry excursion we now have tools to appreciate art in any environment. A really good experience.
Response from Host, May 2023
Steven, thank you so much for your lovely review! It was great meeting you. I'm so glad to hear that you and your wife feel that you now have tools to appreciate art anywhere. That's amazing, and exactly what we hope for!

Fantastic experience! We learned so much about art on Canyon Road in Santa Fe! We especially enjoyed “The Art of Looking.”
Response from Host, Sep 2022
Ellen, thank you so much for your review! I'm happy to hear that you enjoyed our method for looking at art. :) We love that part of the tour, too!

This is a memorable tour, and will be a highlight of your trip! Elaine doesn't just show you interesting art - she gives you historical context to help you understand the pieces she shows you, and by the end of the tour she even gives you some tools and opportunities to be able to analyze and discuss art yourself! After her tour you will feel confident exploring other Canyon Road galleries. Don't miss it!!
