The owner-operator of this day tour was most accommodating. I had the best day out in the Black Hills and learnt so much of the region's history. It was a long day but we packed so much in.

A great and wonderful guided tour. Our guide, Neal, gave us very interesting informations. We stopped for 1h15 at Mount Rushmore and it’s beautiful; we stopped 1h15 at Crazy Horse and took the bus ride to see the memorial closer (it worths the 5$ it costs), we had an hour lunch break at Custer; and after lunch it was a bus ride in Custer state park where we saw more than a hundred of bisons, antilopes, prairie dogs, deers and horses; with stops to watch documentary or to take pictures,… We had a wonderful day, cold bottle of water and choice of light snacks. Thank you Neal for a SUPER guided tour! It worths every penny
Response from Host, Jun 2025
Many thanks for taking the time to leave a review, Chantal! I thoroughly enjoyed having your both on the tour. I'm so glad you both decided to venture this way on your trip! Safe travels on your journey home. Neal

You will learn more about the history and understand how these things came to happen with the tour then you'll ever learn on your own
Response from Host, Jun 2025
Many thanks for taking the time to leave a review, Thomas! Really appreciate your comments about the history because that is what we try to focus on during the tours. Safe travels on your journey home! Neal

Great service, clean vehicle. Neal provided a nice historical overview while traveling from site to site. Best way to see the Black Hills when you are limited to just the one day.
Response from Host, Jun 2025
Bruce, Many thanks for taking the time to leave a review! Very much appreciated. Neal
Paul_C, Jun 2025
A great day out! Lots of interesting things to see. However, be warned: They keep to a tight schedule - no time for dawdling!
Response from Host, Jun 2025
Paul, Thanks for leaving a review! I’m so glad you enjoyed the tour. As I told you then, I will tell you now: ”You were the life of the tour!” And I sincerely mean that. You were so enjoyable to have on the tour. Safe travels on your long journey home. All the best, Neal
Robert_H, Jun 2025
If you want to see the wonderful history of South Dakota? This tour is perfect. The driver and hostess were very knowledgeable very friendly and went out of the way to accommodate pick up and delivery of guest. They planned the sites that we went to and the highway that we travel all in one day and they did it very efficiently. They let you off at the exhibit and pick you up up at each site and they knew exactly where to see the Buffalo and the animals of the park.
Response from Host, Jun 2025
Robert, Many thanks for leaving a review on the tour. Really appreciate what you said about the "history ride" as this is exactly what we want to convey to our guests-tell them about the rich history of the Black Hills. The best part of the day was visiting with you and hearing about your life's experiences and having your grandson with you. A very wonderful young man! Thanks again for choosing Black Hills Day Trips for your tour and safe travels back home. Sincerely, Neal

Neal and Becky were excellent guides! They were very knowledgeable about the area! We saw much more in one day than we could have on our own! Tour and the area exceeded our expectations!
Response from Host, Jun 2025
Many thanks for taking the time to leave a review! I'm glad you enjoyed the tour! We sure enjoyed visiting with you both throughout the day! I hope your travels to the north went well and you enjoyed your time there. Sincerely, Neal
Michelle_G, Jun 2025
Good tour! Maybe would have liked a little more time at the primary attractions. Lunch in the town of Custer was a disappointment
Response from Host, Jun 2025
Michelle, Many thanks for taking the time to leave a review! I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the overall tour itself. I know time is short at each of the primary locations: Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse. Truth be known, you could easily spend 4 hours at each place. The difficulty is if we spend more time at each of those places means we have to cut something out in Custer State Park e.g. buffalo etc. Regarding the disappointing lunch in Custer, sure sorry to hear about that but that is something beyond our control. Thanks again for taking the time to leave a review. Safe travels on your return home. Sincerely, Neal
Nehal_T, May 2025
They skipped few places in the itinerary and I was disappointed. They don’t even offer to click pictures which most tour guides do.I would say it’s ok
Response from Host, May 2025
Dear Nehal, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, although I'm unhappy you were disappointed. If you recall, we provided some options for your itinerary and you expressed a desire to see Sylvan Lake after seeing it in the documentary film at the Custer State Park Visitors Center. To accommodate your request, we substituted the Needles Highway and Sylvan Lake for the Iron Mountain Road and Norbeck Overlook. Perhaps there was some miscommunication, but it would have been impossible to include this option in addition to our normal itinerary due to time constraints. Safe travels as you continue to blog about your travels in the United States. Sincerely, Neal

The emails were answered promptly and the pick up was on time
Neil was absolutely wonderful and I had such a great time

And we so much appreciate the feedback we get from folks like you, Sharleen! Thanks again and we are so glad you enjoyed the tour. Sincerely, Neal

The whole trip was great. Neal was awesome, the information and history he told us was great. We would have never know all of it had we traveled by ourselves. Enjoyed meeting the other travelers!
Response from Host, Oct 2024
Thank you so much for leaving a review, Chrysanne! You made my day by your review and I appreciated your comment about learning the history of the area. I also enjoyed observing how everyone was interacting with all the other travelers. It made for a truly wonderful tour. Sincerely, Neal
Sharon_M, Aug 2024
Crazy horse and Mt Rushmore were great human feats. Loved finding herd of Buffalo grazing near the road. Driver shared lots of historical and landscape information and current local news husband and I enjoyed the trip.
Response from Host, Sep 2024
Thank you so much, Sharon, for taking the time to leave a review! The best part of reading your review to is to read we "enjoyed the trip." And I'm so glad we got close to the buffalo! That is the icing on the cake. Sincerely, Neal
Alex_P, Aug 2024
Visit to Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, and wildlife loop. Very knowledgeable, and flexible if necessary. We chose this tour because it was a maximum of 12 people. We ended up with no one else, a private tour!
Response from Host, Aug 2024
Thank you, Alex, for taking the time to leave a review! Two benefits of our "no minimum number to book" policy is 1) sometimes the guests inadvertently have a "private" tour, and 2) we get to customize it to their likes, making for an all around more enjoyable tour! We did indeed have a great day of sightseeing, sort of kicking off our fall season which is a more relaxing time of the season to sight see and the weather is gorgeous this time of year. Thanks again for leaving a review! Sincerely, Neal
Tammy_W, Jul 2024
It was awesome. The driver was so knowledgeable. My mother and I enjoyed it alot thank you for helping us make awesome memories
Response from Host, Jul 2024
Thank you, Tammy, for leaving a review! We are thrilled we were a part of making a terrific memory for you and your mom on your visit to the Black Hills. We just scratch the surface on the stops we make, there is so much more to do. You will have to return again to see the rest of the Black Hills! Sincerely, Neal
Amy_G, Jul 2024
I had an absolutely amazing experience with Black Hills Day Trips. Neal and his wife were amazing hosts. The trip was an excellent value and the communication before and after the trip was perfect. You travel in a comfortable van, where Neal has been incredibly thoughtful by including water and snacks. He also provides park maps.
He is knowledgeable about the local history and makes great recommendations on how to spend your time at each stop, where to grab snacks or lunch, and the perfect photo ops. Traveling with Neal felt more like spending the day with a friend. Perfect way to maximize your time in Rapid City and see the top highlights. Highly recommend!
Response from Host, Jul 2024
Many thanks for taking the time to provide a review of the tour, Amy! We are glad you enjoyed the tour and really appreciate you posting some pictures, especially of the bison! We enjoyed having you on the tour and probably had as much fun as you did; Becky thorough enjoyed visiting with you! Safe travels in the future as you finish out your journey to the remaining states on your list. Sincerely, Neal
Tammy_A, Jul 2024
The Crazy Horse Memorial was fantastic. I took a trip in an old school bus to see it from the base. Neal is a very knowledgeable and thorough guide.
Response from Host, Jul 2024
Thank you, Tammy, for taking the time to leave a review! The bus trip to the base of Crazy Horse offered by the Crazy Horse Foundation is well worth it! I’m glad you enjoyed it, too! Sincerely, Neal
Jose_O, Jul 2024
Neal was an excellent tour guide. He gave us great and fascinating information about the Black Hills. En route to our destinations, he made sure to point out points of interest. Moreover, there weren’t fifty people on the tour. It was small and intimate, which made for a more personal tour! I highly recommend going with this tour company. It is worth every penny… and then some!
Response from Host, Jul 2024
Many thanks, Jose, for leaving a review! I'm thrilled that you enjoyed the tour. Furthermore, I thoroughly enjoyed chatting with you in between stops and learning that we both had something in common! I trust your remaining time in the Black Hills was just as enjoyable. Sincerely, Neal
Lisa_C, Jul 2024

Daphne_G, Jul 2024
My husband didnt have to drive us so he got to experience what we were seeing! We got to share in the experience by Neal driving for us. Neal was a great communicator all the while driving safely around switchbacks and pigtails.
Response from Host, Jul 2024
Thank you, Daphne, for taking the time to share your thoughts on the tour! I'm glad your family was able to relax and enjoy the sights in the Southern Black Hills. It was a beautiful day, weather wise, to do sightseeing. Safe travels on your journey home (I also appreciate you sharing the note about my driving!). Neal
Kathleen_S, Jun 2024
Mount Rushmore was breathtaking. Luckily we visited before the clouds rolled in! Thanks to the knowledge and experience of our Tour Manager, we were able to see almost the entire herd of bison. They were crossing the dirt road we took so we took some great pictures up close! All in all, it was a super day!
Response from Host, Jun 2024
Many thank, Kathleen, for taking the time to leave a review of the tour! It was a treat for me, too, because that was the largest herd of bison we saw this year! And with them grazing against the background of the yellow sweet clover, it was a beautiful site, indeed. Safe travels home, Neal
Mike_M, Jun 2024
Bison stampede right in front of the vehicle in Custer State Park. Driver Neal was very informative.
Response from Host, Jun 2024
Thank you, Michael, for taking the time to leave a review. The bison "stampede" was maybe the highlight of the day! It was pretty exciting seeing them run at break neck speed ahead of us on the road, and then a little bit later a different small herd of bison run at breakneck speed across the road from the other direction! I hope to post some of the video on Facebook soon. Thanks again for touring with us. The honor was all mine showing you the sights of the Southern Black Hills. Sincerely, Neal
Heather_L, Jun 2024
Amazing tour! Neal was very helpful and knowledgeable. We had only one day to explore this area and couldn't have imagined a better way to spend it. Thank you!
Response from Host, Jun 2024
Thank you, Heather, for your review! As I mentioned to you at the end of the day, it was my pleasure showing your family the sights in this area of Black Hills and providing some history, too. Furthermore, it was gratifying to see how everyone on the tour was interacting with each other. Truly it was a wonderful day: beautiful weather to tour (blue sky and sunshine), we saw a large herd of buffalo against the lush green hilly slopes in Custer State Park, and this particular group of folks made it a very fun day! Sincerely, Neal
Jane_S, Jun 2024
Had a wonderful tour with Neal yesterday. He is so knowledgeable about the Black Hills area. We saw so much more than we could have seen visiting areas and parks we were unfamiliar with. We highly recommend this tour.
Response from Host, Jun 2024
Thanks so much for taking the time to share your experience on the tour, Jane! It was my pleasure showing you and your wonderful husband the Southern Black Hills. Plus, I rather enjoyed getting caught in the buffalo (bison) traffic jam for a few minutes and working our way out of the herd that was crossing the road! Safe travels on the remainder of your trip. Sincerely, Neal
Ninette_R, May 2024
Scenery at every stop was beautiful! Neal was a great tour guide with knowledgeable info to share and an extremely pleasant/sweet attitude! We had a great time!
Response from Host, May 2024
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, Ninette! I was a beautiful day, indeed, the day of the tour. May is a wonderful time to visit the Black Hills as we get the spring rains with warmer temps, turning the countryside into a lush green landscape. Many thanks again for leaving a review and I'm so glad you enjoyed the tour. Sincerely, Neal
Robert_S, Apr 2024
Taking this tour with a knowledgeable guide enabled us to see many sights we probably would have missed and gave us historical insights related to the area. Not having to drive was also a relief.
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Many thanks, Robert, for taking the time to provide a review of the tour! I'm glad to hear you appreciated the "historical insights" aspect of the tour. By the way, this was a particular memorable tour because I myself got some good video of the bull bison shaking the small Ponderosa Pine tree on the Iron Mountain Road. I've not seen that before! Thanks again for leaving the review and I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Safe travels on the remainder of your trip. Come back and visit us again! Sincerely, Neal
