I have seen reviews saying that the app didn’t work, etc. I had zero issues. I followed the instructions and downloaded while I had WiFi. Got my activation code and detailed instructions within 2 minutes. So make sure you fully download before going as cellular service on the walk can get minimal in places but with the app and the tour downloaded I had no issues. It did a perfect job of automatically starting an informative story at each point of interest. Who ever did the narration did an excellent job keeping it interesting and humorous. I highly recommend for a self paced walk from start to end. You can then walk back or take a trolly back to Easton Beach. Some of the walk is unpaved and requires balance but nothing too difficult. The tour was well worth the cost.

It doesn’t mention your progress in miles along the route and it shud, so u know how close u are to the end.

The audio tour made the cliff walk much more enjoyable and interesting. Loved hearing all about the mansions and the people who owned them from the gilded age. Highly recommend.

I think for a self guided tour it was good! I don’t think I knew I had to walk so many rock areas. But we did it and made it without falling!!

Overall, it was an excellent experience having the audio guide vs. just doing the walk without it. The only complaint is that occasionally we would get kicked out of the audio and have to get back into it. It was a slight nuisance, but still worth having the audio experience.

Audio kicks out toward the end of the trail. This is my second tour and both times, different years, the audio kicks out and you miss the last landmarks.

Mid October cliff walk was absolutely beautiful! While it is difficult to see many of the mansions from the walk the view over the water was stunning! We did not do the last 1/3 part of the walk over the rocks but the first section of rocks was pretty easy. The rest was nicely paved. The audio tour provided all the high points and was not annoying like some. Great experience! Highly recommend!

It was easy to use. The only thing that could have been included is the difficulty level of climbing on rocks at different points on the path.

The app is confusing. It did not work for us. Dont recommend. Found it difficult to use and were not able to use the tour.

This tour provided just enough interesting information about the Mansions and history of the area. It was perfect the way each section was timed and the way it worked automatically.

The good news is that the product you bought never expires. So, you can enjoy the stories from the comfort of your home, or if you're up for a different adventure, let me know, and I can switch you over to one of my other 100+ self-guided tours. Watching the surfers climbing over the cliffs to get into the water was fascinating. The end of the walk, we saw the magnificent mansions.

It was too hard to use the app, so the money was wasted. It was a hot day and crowded with walkers, and there was a detour that interrupted the flow and made the walk more effortful. There was only one restroom stop, which was inadequate, involving an even longer exposure to the elements and detracted from the experience.

We took our family of ten on the cliff walk with this tour. Our youngest are 7, and oldest are 18.
They all had a blast and had no issues navigating the trail.
Definitely recommend!!!
Don't forget sunscreen!!! It took us about 5 hours to complete because we kept stopping lol.

I have been on the cliff walk several times in my life. Much much more enjoyable with this wonderful guided tour. The voice was nice to listen to the pace was excellent and I have already been telling all my friends to do this.

Parked at Easton Beach and walked entire cliff walk. Some sections were on rocks and a little scary. Wear good walking shoes. Downloaded app at home and had no problems using audio. Enjoyed hearing all the interesting facts about all the mansions. Would not have been as good just walking on our own without audio. Highly recommend.

The commentary was good but the Cliff Walk is not the best way to see the Gilded Mansions if that is what you’re after. Most are not visible on the walk. You’re better off doing the free trolley tour and booking to go inside those open to the public.

Thanks for your feedback Kirrily! The first 12 stops on tour do not pass by any mansions. After stop 13, you come across eight mansions that face the ocean. So, all the mansion stories are after stop 12. A free trolley tour only takes you to the places. It does not tell you the stories. You have to go inside the mansions to hear the room-by-room story. I have created a separate tour of the mansions inside for the Preservation Society of Newport. If you enter any of their mansions, they will ask you to download the tour to go around it when you are inside.
I would be more than happy to exchange your tour with one of my 100 other tours in the US — hopefully, you’ll get the chance to try them next time! Also, to remind you, the tour you bought is yours for a lifetime. So, you can listen to it at home or on your next visit.
There was nothing to see aside from views of the water, hedges are too high to view homes. Add in the detour….pass.

Thanks for your feedback Cheryl! This is a self-guided walking tour, so you should keep walking to get to the points of interest. When you arrive at the point of interest, the audios will play automatically and will provide you with information about the specific location.
I was unable to get the app to work correctly, even after 3 tries. We did better on our own with a map.

The Cliff Walk is incredible. PLEASE note: the red sections ARE HARD!!! But Why buy this guide when you can get it for free from the city?? It skips. It starts over. It repeats itself. Not a total waste as the bavkground information was good.

We created this tour for the simple reason that it offers more than free versions do — after all, you could always just use Wikipedia when vacationing! This is meant for visitors who want more.
The “welcome” audio plays each time you re-start the app. However, this doesn’t mean the tour is starting over. It picks up where you are. The best practice is simply to keep the tour running while on the cliff walk because then the welcome won’t re-play.
Other stories will appear to skip or repeat if directions like “pause and look” were not followed. The tour naturally works best when all instructions are followed.
