Frustrating Experience and Hidden Fees

lenny_w, Feb 2026
I booked this tour through Viator and encountered several issues that ruined the trip. The shuttle was 20 minutes late to pick us up. After boarding, the guide announced that the itinerary shown was incorrect and that seeing the canyon would require a $20 per person paid for a guided tour. There was no mention of a free shuttle option inside the canyon. The road to the south rim was closed, so the tour proceeded to the west rim, with an additional $43 per person charged. While the tour guide was collecting the $20 for a “private” canyon tour, the bus driver suddenly slammed on the brakes. The guide was thrown around, struck his knee, and sustained a hematoma roughly the size of a baseball, leaving him effectively out of commission for the rest of the trip. The end of the tour included about 10 minutes of asking for tips, which felt inappropriate after the ordeal. Overall, it was a horrific experience. Consider booking tours elsewhere or asking for a clear breakdown of all fees and changes to the itinerary before you commit.

Response from Host, Feb 2026

Thank you for sharing your experience. The concerns you raised regarding timing, communication about fees, itinerary adjustments, and the safety incident are all issues we take seriously. We are reviewing these points with our team to strengthen our processes and ensure a more reliable experience for future guests. We also recognize your feedback on gratuity requests and drop‑off procedures, and these areas are being re‑evaluated to maintain a professional standard throughout the entire tour.

Must see!

Jamie_F, Feb 2026
The Grand Canyon is always a must see when I come to Vegas! The tour was nice very straight forward and everything was on time ❤️

Response from Host, Feb 2026

Thank you! Glad the tour was smooth and on time. The Grand Canyon never disappoints!

Great day trip!

Bernie_K, Feb 2026
Excellent weather & safe travels. Brandon; our tour guide was outstanding & went over & above to make the trip perfect. Our driver; Saffire did an outstanding job& was super pleasant during our stops. (NOTE: She couldn't talk while driving). Highly recommend this day trip!

Response from Host, Feb 2026

We appreciate your positive feedback about Brandon and Sapphire. We're glad the weather was excellent and your trip was safe and enjoyable.

I ll never try again

Alina_C, Jan 2026
Read carefully all information as apparently the extra fees are hidden. You gotta look well at additional information to see you will be charged extra for admission in the park although in the description it says it is included

Response from Host, Jan 2026

Thank you for your feedback! We’re sorry for the confusion. Extra fees are listed under “Additional Information,” and we’ll make this clearer moving forward.

Too noisy bus trip. Pay more elsewhere.

Imperial_M, Jan 2026
Pay more for a better, cleaner experience. The bus is dirty, uncomfortable and noisy all the way up and back which felt torturous. The guide speaks into a microphone nonstop once you’re picked up at 5:00 am. I think most people on the bus would rather catch some sleep. Sit away from the tv screen or you will have the volume blasting on your trip. I’ve traveled on numerous bus trips and this had to be comparable to greyhound. The lunch is small and only eatable because there is no other choice. We would’ve been better off packing a lunch. You have been warned. Our guide was a nice guy but too eager to sell his private tour, and collect tips for him and the bus driver. I’m so over the tipping culture.

Response from Host, Jan 2026

We appreciate you taking the time to share detailed feedback about your experience. Comfort and atmosphere are important, and we recognize that guest preferences can vary regarding narration, noise levels, and onboard amenities. Our vehicles are cleaned and serviced regularly, and your comments regarding comfort and audio levels have been noted for review. While guides may mention additional tour offerings and tipping is customary in the industry, participation in both is entirely optional.

Triple Check Your pickup location

wander_w, Dec 2025
My take: the Grand Canyon is magnificent. The guide was ok. But if a company [tour operator and Viator] are not going to provide a customer with accurate information, if both the tour operator and Viator are going to point fingers at each other but they'll happily take your money, you should take your money to a different tour operator. This tour has an early start, so I selected an experience where my hotel was a pickup location, because wandering around Vegas at 4AM isn't ideal (maybe fun for some, not for me). My hotel was listed at checkout as an option, was listed on my ticket, and when I entered it in as pickup location. I texted the tour company to confirm the time and it turns out, they didn't pickup at that hotel. They informed me it was not their responsibility to have accurate hotel pickup information, it was Viator's. Viator informed me that it was the tour operator's responsibility to list accurate information. I don't ultimately know whose responsibility it is (both?), but waiting around in a parking garage at 4:30AM in a completely different hotel was something I was specifically trying to avoid and accurate information is something I expect when I make a purchase. So, honestly, there are other sites to book on, and other tour operators with basic accountability.

Response from Host, Dec 2025

Thank you for sharing your experience, and we’re glad to hear you enjoyed the Grand Canyon itself. To clarify the pickup situation: The Cosmopolitan is not included on our official pickup list, which is why an alternate location was provided when you contacted our team. Our confirmed pickup locations are always communicated directly through our tour confirmation messages and customer support channels. Should you require any additional clarification or wish to discuss further please contact us directly at reservations@nationalparkexpress.com

We had a tour to the...

Roya_G, Nov 2025
We had a tour to the canyon today, which was originally booked for yesterday. Because the company sent a last-minute change of departure time, we arrived less than 5 minutes after the new time and the bus did not wait for us—so we had to pay for another taxi and rebook for today. The funny part is that today, again, the departure time was changed, and the bus was actually 20 minutes late. The tour did not feel like a tour at all; it felt like public transportation on an old bus. They played two movies just to fill the time. At the site, every explanation about the area required an extra $25 fee, otherwise they refused to share any information. At the end, they also asked for separate tips for the staff, even though there was no real service provided. The bus advertised having Wi-Fi, but it was only turned on during the last 30 minutes before arrival. I have taken tours in many countries, and this was honestly the worst experience. There was no passion, no service—only constant attempts to take more money. Viator, as a verified company, should be much more careful about the service details of their partners and ensure there are no hidden fees. ---

Response from Host, Dec 2025

Thank you for your detailed feedback. Every minute counts during pick-ups, and delays affect the entire schedule. We understand your concerns about the older bus and the movies played during the ride, and we’ll review this with our team to improve. The optional guided tour is an add-on service, and we’ll ensure this is communicated clearly.

Will never book with this company again

Darcy_T, Nov 2025
Poor handling of the pick-up schedule by the company/guide representative resulted us in not attending. They changed our pick-up location from our hotel 12 hours prior, which as a result nullified any possible refund or rebooking according to their policy. We are out $300 and will never book again with this company. We were told due to the F1 Race preparation they didn't have access to our hotel, which was untrue. Our hotel (The Strat) was out of the main Las Vegas core of the strip so there literally was no reason to change our pick up location as other tour buses were doing drop offs and pick ups with zero issues. If they didn't want to come to the Strat for the pick-up then my suggestion would be don't offer it in your online bookings. Will never book with this company again. Save yourself the grief and book the Grand Canyon experience elsewhere.

Response from Host, Nov 2025

We understand how upsetting this situation must be for you and appreciate you sharing your feedback. Please reach out to us at reservations@nationalparkexpress.com so we can review the details and assist you directly.

Brandon great Tour guide

brucegrossman007, Nov 2025
Brandon and Paul were great. Definitely enhanced our experience doing the walking tour with Brandon. We'll worth the extra money. Not only was Brandon full of great information. He was a great photographer. Would recommend this tour highly. Paul got us back early.

Response from Host, Nov 2025

Your feedback is greatly valued. We are thrilled that Brandon’s expertise and photography skills enhanced your experience and that Paul ensured a smooth and timely conclusion to your tour.

Outstanding tour with great tour guide & driver

ken_m, Nov 2025
Overall great experience. The tour guide Joel was outstanding as was the driver. Joel was informative, entertaining and overall a great leader. Each of the stops allowed enough time to see and learn about the Grand Canyon. Lunch provided was adequate and continued fresh cold water was provided. Definitely the tour to take if you want to see the Canyon. Better yet ask for Joel to be your tour guide. You will not be disappointed.

Response from Host, Nov 2025

Thank you for sharing your experience. We’re thrilled Joel and our driver exceeded your expectations and made your Grand Canyon visit memorable.

Book this now!

breighz, Nov 2025
This is a fantastic tour! Eric was our guide. He was super knowledgeable, funny, and made it a great trip! Carlos was a great driver! I wouldn’t hesitate to book this tour. For an extra $20, Eric will take you on a 2 hour guided tour, or you can go it alone. The tour is well worth the $20. I highly recommmend it. Don’t forget to tip the guide and driver at the end. It’s a long day but well worth it!

Response from Host, Nov 2025

We’re so glad you found the tour—and the optional guided hike—worth every dollar! Eric and Carlos work hard to make sure every guest has a memorable experience. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, and we hope to see you again soon.

Guide was not experienced...

Sumantra_C, Nov 2025
Guide was not experienced enough on the tour. The tour could have been much more better if we have a good tour guide.

Response from Host, Nov 2025

Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate your input regarding the guide’s experience level. A knowledgeable and engaging guide is essential to delivering an exceptional tour, and we will review this to ensure future experiences meet the highest standards.

Long 3 hour + bus ride, but the south rim was worth the ride. Tour guide Eric was great and very informative

Response from Host, Oct 2025

Thank you for sharing your experience with us! We are delighted to hear that the long bus ride to the Grand Canyon South Rim was worthwhile and that Eric, your tour guide, provided you with valuable insights.

Well managed, fun tour - Just know your options before hand

Raza_K, Sep 2025
Great option for solo travelers looking for a day trip to the Grand Canyon. The guide, Eric, and driver, Brandon, were friendly, insanely knowledgeable, and kept the ride fun with their jokes. Pickup and drop-off were smooth and on time. A few things to know: 1) The bus ride is about 4.5 hours each way, leaving only 2–3 hours at the canyon, which felt rushed and tiring, so do manage your expectations. 2) The guide offers a $25 add-on tour that includes detailed commentary and using the bus as a shuttle to save time rather than doing a 45 minute trail. While worthwhile if you prefer a structured, low-effort visit, experienced solo travelers might want to skip it by planning ahead - using the free shuttles and reading up on the canyon themselves. This will leave you with more time doing the trails and experiencing the canyon yourself. 3) It would be better if this add-on were offered at booking rather than on the spot, as it can feel pressured, as previous reviews also point out. Overall, a well-run trip with excellent guiding, but I just wanted to make you aware of all your options on this tour before you go.

Response from Host, Sep 2025

Thank you for sharing your insights on the Grand Canyon National Park tour experience! It’s wonderful to hear that Eric and Brandon contributed to a memorable journey with their knowledge and humor. We appreciate your feedback regarding the bus ride duration and the optional add-on tour; your suggestions will certainly help fellow travelers make informed decisions. Thank you once again for your thoughtful review, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you on another adventure in the future.

It was a lot of time on...

Joann_J, Sep 2025
It was a lot of time on the bus, but our tour guide Brandon and driver Cheng were wonderful. Brandon and Cheng made it interesting. We got lots of information about the Canyon and Hoover Dam and the surrounding areas. We made a couple stops on the way which are always helpful. Cheng was a good driver and very pleasant. We have one concern. We originally booked a two day trip to the Grand Canyon which was cancelled by the vendor and did this one as a replacement. We did not know that we would not be brought back to our hotel at the end of the trip. Brandon explained time constraints on drivers but we were never told at booking that we would be dropped off a long way from our hotel the Strat. This was very difficult for us as seniors. Brandon even offered to take us home in his personal car but we did not want to impose. This was not his fault.

Response from Host, Sep 2025

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We’re pleased to hear that Brandon and Cheng provided a safe, informative, and engaging tour, and that their professionalism helped make the long journey more enjoyable. However, we sincerely apologize for the misunderstanding regarding the drop-off location. Our tour will only drop off at 3 hotels.

It was fine, but there are things to improve

Veronica_I, Aug 2025
The trip itself is okay, very much bus to the Grand Canyon and back. However, the whole trip felt quite unorganized. We did not know where or when the pickup was going to be until literally three hours before the activity started, which is not great as this means it was 1am. During the tour videos were played in the bus which were super loud, so it was hard to have a nap as the guide was saying. You are also kind of pressured to have the "guided tour", which might just not be what you want to do, especially when that means being with the other 30 people in the bus, which doesn't make a very nice Grand Canyon experience. The tour guide and the driver were very nice though.

Response from Host, Aug 2025

Thank you for your review. We're pleased to hear that you found both the tour guide and driver to be courteous and welcoming. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by the late communication regarding your pickup time. We understand how important timely and clear information is to our guests, and we are actively working to enhance our communication protocols to ensure all logistical details are provided well in advance. We also regret that the volume of the onboard videos affected your ability to rest during the journey. This feedback has been shared with our operations team, and we will be reviewing our onboard media practices to better accommodate guest comfort. Regarding the guided portion of the tour, we’d like to clarify that while our guides offer structured commentary to enrich the experience, participation is entirely optional. Guests are always welcome to explore independently at their own pace. Your feedback is greatly appreciated and plays a vital role in helping us improve our services.

It was a great trip....

Dean_C, Aug 2025
It was a great trip. First, the morning pickup was smooth at the hotel. That gave tourists peace of mind in case they were concerned they might miss the bus in the very early morning. During the trip to GCNP, the guide, Brandon, was great about explaining several local histories and attractions. I liked the guide and the driver distributed the cold water bottles 4 times during the trip. That was absolutely helpful in August when the weather was so hot. Lunch was decent and big enough for the trip. If you haven't seen GCNP South Rim before and don't have much time, this trip will give you 3 hours to take a quick peek at the center of the Grand Canyon and the interesting points around the visitor center. It is worth the time and money.

Response from Host, Aug 2025

Thank you for your detailed feedback. We're pleased to hear the tour was well-organized and that Brandon and the team provided a comfortable and informative experience. We're glad you found the Grand Canyon visit worthwhile and appreciate your recommendation.
