Tour takes 8–10 hours; can be spread over 2–3 days if preferred
Hermit Road is shuttle-only March–November (Red Route); Yaki Point is always shuttle-only (Orange Route) — bring headphones, the tour works on shuttles
Parking fills up fast — arrive early or use the shuttle from wherever you park
Cell service is limited — download the tour offline before your visit
Trails may be icy even in spring — pack layers and consider crampons
Overnight stays and camping require a backcountry permit; Phantom Ranch books out months in advance

Grand Canyon App Tour

The tour started out good. The app was giving us great information. We stopped at one spot then back tracked a little to catch an overlook area we missed. That’s when the app stopped talking to us. We ended up checking things out on our own after that. I guess my tip would be…stay on track.

Our tours use GPS triggers, so when you go off-route or backtrack, the app may think you’ve already passed certain points and won’t replay them automatically. You can still restart or rejoin the tour, though — here’s how for next time: 👉 How to restart or get back on track: Open the tour map, tap the gear/settings icon, and select “Directions to Starting Point.” Or, open another map app (Google/Apple Maps) to see your current location, then head to the nearest numbered tour stop, reopen Shaka Guide, and the narration will resume in order.
