Itinerary
Get ready to discover the original Emerald City, the city of Seattle, Washington, from its inception in the 1890s. This entertaining and educational underground voyage travels beneath the streets to uncover three blocks of historic, old Pioneer Square. Explore not only the underground passageways that were built more than 120 years ago, but also the modern Pioneer Square that exists today.
Make your way to 102 Cherry Street near Pioneer Street to start your tour. Hear tales from the past, including the story of the stampede to the Yukon gold fields and Seattle's crucial role in what would become the Klondike Gold Rush. Find out about Skid Row, a dilapidated urban area that served as the main street in Pioneer Square. And get to know the history of a group of people called the Coast Salish, the ethnically and linguistically related Indigenous peoples that first settled here.
The tour ends at Occidental Square.

- Tours need 2 or more people on the tour for the tour to run. Full refunds given in the event only one person signed up for the tour.
- There are 3 flights of stairs, up and down each flight, throughout the one hour tour. We travel 4 blocks ( apporx. half a mile, .8k) at a leisurley pace during the one hour tour.
- This tour/activity will have a maximum of 20 travelers

We had a great experience on the Beneath the Streets Underground Tour. It was such a unique way to see a different side of Seattle that you wouldn’t discover on your own. Walking through the underground pathways and hearing how the city transformed over time really brought the history of Pioneer Square to life.
Our guide, Patty, made the tour. She was funny, kind, and incredibly knowledgeable, and her storytelling kept everyone engaged the entire time. You can tell she genuinely enjoys what she does, which made the experience even better.
The tour is about an hour and includes a fair amount of stairs, but it’s well worth it. It’s informative, entertaining, and gives you a deeper appreciation for Seattle’s history. Highly recommend for both visitors and anyone who wants to learn something new about the city.

The tour started in good place however missing introducing the place well. There should be some mini dramas to show the history well and better reflect the value of the tickets!
The other two undergrounds were poor, just the basements of buildings, no more value than the pictures hanging there!
For most of the tour members are from out of town, it should be presented well and meaningful!

Many people come to the Seattle Underground expecting to see a series of interconnected tunnels throughout the ruins of an old city. Sadly, that is not the reality. The Seattle Underground, as you discovered, is a series of disused first stories & sidewalks. The spaces are not interconnected. It can feel like the spaces are random, but we try to show a variety of sides of the Underground.
We pride ourselves on our guides ability to make the spaces come to life, and it appears we failed you there. We do not have actors or animatronics just guides that love to share their city and passion for history.
We are sorry that you felt the tour didn't provide the value you were looking for. We are highly reviewed because we take feedback seriously - we would be interested in hearing more about your time with us and how we could do better.

The tour is about an hour, there are a few stairs involved so not for those with mobility issues. It's entertaining, it guide was very interactive and you learn a bit about the history of Seattle. Bring some cash for a tip because they work hard and deserve it. A must so for any tourist.

This tour was recommended semi-last minute, but I am happy I was able to book it. Learned a little more about the history of Seattle, which was more colorful than I had known previously. Do be prepared for a lot of walking, some steep stairs but otherwise it was a fun tour in downtown Seattle.

Entertaining and very educational on the history of the streets of Seattle.
My tour guide who was suffering through Parkinson’s (god bless him) gave the best tour I’ve done through viator yet to this date.
To know as much about the city and to take the time to learn my name and everyone’s background before the tour was refreshing because it felt like I was in great hands with someone who actually cared truthfully.
