We could not hear the tour guide for static in the headset and her accent was already incredibly thick and hard to understand. During the tour, I started googling facts about the colosseum so I would learn something. People in my group also could not hear/understand and we just removed our headphones and hoped we could hear something. Would not do again.

We pride ourselves on offering in-depth knowledge, so it is particularly painful to hear that you felt the need to look up facts online during the tour. We are sorry for that distraction.
A note on our process:
You highlighted a critical moment in every tour—the headset distribution. Typically, we perform a sound check right there at the meeting point. However, we understand that the excitement of being in front of the Colosseum can be distracting. Guests are often taking photos or chatting, and sometimes miss the instruction to immediately flag any audio issues.
Moving forward, we are briefing our staff to be more proactive. We will ask them to pause, ensure they have everyone's attention, and allow extra time for guests to test the headsets before we even cross the street toward the entrance. As you noted, once we are inside, the guide’s ability to fix equipment is very limited.
We hope that despite this frustration, you took away some wonderful memories of Rome.

The tour was great. The sellers are A SCAM! They allow you to book a specific time, then 48 hrs later they change the time and say it’s the only thing available. You can buy the tickets off the colosseum website. Do that!

The underground and Arena tour were Amazing! Highly recommended. There’s even a display with Gladiators helmets and outfits you can view. You don’t realize the magnitude and intricacy of the tunnels until you walk through them. Loved it

It was a great experience visiting the Colloseum at night time. It looks magical under lights. There was no queue and there were only a couple of groups in the Colloseum at the same time.

The colosseum tour itself, in particular the “underground” portion, was quite good. However, although entrance tickets to Palatine Hill and the Forum were included, a guided and narrated tour was not. Exploring by oneself did not provide nearly the depth of knowledge that is received by a trained tour guide. My caution to other travelers is to make sure your itinerary includes a guided and narrated tour of Palatine Hill and the Forum. If not, you will come away with some nice pictures but little more.

The full experience underground Colosseum small group tour was very informative. The small group size said up to 24, but there were only 8 of us. The audio was full of static so our guide just talked to us without the headphones. Lots of details and answered all questions completely. Loved it!

Really enjoyed this tour, booked through Viator with Milon Tours. It was confusing at the meeting point because we were looking for a Milon sign, but once we called them, they said the sign to look for was Discover Rome Tours. After that it was smooth sailing. Had a great tour guide who told us stories about the history of the Colosseum along the way and led us through entry/security and throughout the Colosseum. It was an English tour but the guide was born and raised in Rome and had a very thick accent so was hard to understand at times but we got the gist of it. Everyone got little personal disposable earpieces so hearing/volume wasn't an issue. The whole walk-through of the Colosseum took 2 hours (and we went at a pretty good pace - know there are 50+ stairs to navigate along the way). At the end before the guide left us, he gave us our paper tickets to use to get into the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill on our own. Unfortunately we couldn't do that because we had to catch a train (we originally booked our tour for 10:30am but the day before they said they had to reschedule it to 2pm - Colosseum tickets are harder to get than Taylor Swift tickets (literally - I went to the Eras Tour but had to go thru Viator to see the Colosseum!) so you need to be flexible the day of and not count on the plans not changing). As long as your plans are flexible, this is an excellent tour overall!

The guide knew so much about the history of the space as well as those who worked at and performed at the colosseum. The underground portion was much larger than I was expecting to go through, and they have rebuilt a lift to show how they went through set changes. Fantastic tour, can’t wait to take my family!
