Overview

The underground warren of chambers and tunnels is one of the most fascinating areas of the Colosseum, but it’s off-limits to most visitors. With this small-group tour, access the restricted zone beneath the arena floor and learn about how it once housed gladiators and wild beasts before heading upstairs to visit the rest of the ancient amphitheater. Wow! This was an unbelievable experience! Laura was very knowledgeable and taught us on much…always finding a shady spot to gather. Going onto the arena floor and underground level was breathtaking. If you can get tickets, don’t miss this tour!

Very unique trip to the colosseum. Special access to the underground, skipped lines, etc. our guide Daniel V. Spoke very good English and was able to tell us all about what we were seeing, etc. highly recommend and if you can get Daniel V. Even better!

Ridiculous company. Zero help trying to locate their business. After calling trying to get directions, we had trouble and kept circling the streets. We had an actual employee of the colosseum eventually guide us to the place. Of course this made a few minutes late and the tour had already left. Instead of allowing us to catch them, they said we could wait an hour and “maybe” join the next tour. Mind you, this next tour didn’t have the underground part which accounted to the extra expense we had paid. We didn’t want to wait an hour for something that wasn’t guaranteed (also no underground). We asked if we could go another day or get credited for the tickets. They offered zero. Let me make one thing very clear, yes, we’re we’re a couple minutes late. However, we had called asking for help way before the tour started and they offered zero help. We were literally within shouting distance multiple times (before the start of the tour) but not a single employee helped. Our tour guide of the Vatican (different company) called a couple that was late. Of course they were lost and frantically trying to find our meeting spot. She guided them to us within moments. My point is this company does not care about their customers. With all the other tours I took on my trip to Italy, this was the only company that was a rip-off

Visiting the lower level of the coliseum is a must! On my first trip to Rome many years ago, I skipped this part and I'm so glad we did it this time. It's very interesting to hear the history and have the perspective about the gladiators and animals were staged and presented to the audience before, during and after big performances. Our guide, Maria was fabulous and very knowledgeable. The group was just a little large for hearing and getting in closer at some parts, but manageable. Only complaint was audio headset channel interference frequently on the tour from other groups which was a little annoying but otherwise amazing. If you do the Part 2 of this tour with the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, which we did, there is not enough time to roam around the Colliseum after the tour if you do this part first. That was a bummer. Wish I had known that. So make sure if you do the full thing, to ensure the Coliseum is second, not first.
