Wow. Just beautiful. Very easy pickup and drop off experience. You get to see geysirs and prismatic pools, with the option of hiking up high to see new sites—but the second location is WOW! You get to see frozen lava, hike next to it and see how cruel nature can be at times. There’s a far telephone pole that you can hike to and of course, you have to.
After there’s a fish spot they take you which has some of the most melt in your mouth fish I’ve EVER had.. Then you cap it off with some of the most decadent chocolates ever!
Overall stunning

Excellent experience, with some local knowledge and visiting places I didnt know existed by just traveling Route 1 in the past. The hike to the top of the viewing area was grueling but extremely worth a unique view of the more recent lava flows. Our guide was knowledgeable and interesting. Ate lunch at a wonderful local spot in Grindivik, while understanding their disruption from the volcano.

Dear Kristen,
Hello,
Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback. We are delighted to hear that the tour gave you the opportunity to discover places you had not experienced during your previous travels around Iceland.
It is great to know that the hike was worth the effort and rewarded you with unique views of the recent lava flows. Experiences like these truly showcase the dynamic nature of Iceland's landscape.
We are also pleased that you enjoyed learning from your guide and appreciated the visit to Grindavík. The town has faced significant challenges in recent years, and we are glad that the stop provided both a memorable meal and a deeper understanding of the local community and its resilience.
Thank you again for sharing your experience. We hope to welcome you back for more adventures in Iceland in the future.
Kind regards,
Rute

Although the tour information says lunch not included, the tour did stop at a restaurant and you could buy lunch. We did not know this. Having said that, the trip was beyond first class and Eric, our Guide, was brilliant.
Response from Host, Jun 2026
Hello,
Thank you for your kind feedback! We’re delighted to hear you had a first-class experience and that Eric made such a positive impression as your guide.
We also appreciate your note regarding the lunch stop. Even though lunch is not included, we understand it may not have been clear that there is an opportunity to purchase food during the tour, and your feedback is very helpful. We will share this with our team to improve communication.
We truly appreciate your words and hope to see you again in Iceland!
Kind regards,
Zuzanna

Our driver/guide was excellent. He was very friendly and understanding. He was very knowledgeable and he came with us on each of the walks and talked us through the main points of interest.

Awesome experience being able to walk right up to the recent lava flows. It makes the whole thing a reality, not just something you watch on tv. Fascinating drive thru Grindavik as well, and the lunch stop at the one open restaurant was nice. Fish and chips were awesome! And the chocolates next door yummy, it’s amazing to see first hand how the country dealt with the lava flows and eruptions. Just. Fascinating trip.
Response from Host, Jan 2026
Thank you for sharing such a fantastic review. We’re thrilled to hear how much you enjoyed seeing the recent lava flows up close and driving through Grindavík—it truly is a powerful experience to witness firsthand. It’s great to know you also enjoyed the lunch stop and local treats along the way. We’d love to welcome you to join us again on another fascinating journey around Iceland.
Kind regards,
Sesili

Perfect way to explore volcanic sights. Though the roads were difficult Micheal was very safe and informative and gave us plenty of time to explore the volcanic sights. Not too stressful terrain since we had a kid! Overall great experience

It’s longer than advertised, I believe it says four hours but it was eight hours. Most of the places you go are extremely exposed, so cannot emphasize enough proper attire
Kath_P, Sep 2023
The whole visit was incredible. The walk up the long ridge gave fantastic views of recent volcanic activity and then our knowledgeable guide took us on to the lava field. A visit to a small fishing village, hot springs, geyser and a rift between the American and Eurasian tectonic plates. Not as busy as the Golden Circle either.

Amazing day from start to finish. Tour guides are brilliant. We had a short hike to the volcano but the weather was bad so just walked on parts of the lava field which was an amazing experience. We visited the tectonic plates, geothermal area and the brimketill (troll bath on the Atlantic Ocean) brilliant day had by all I’m glad we didn’t hike any higher up the snow/ice covered mountain as I’m not sure my 12 year old would of managed

The guide went out of her way to make a few extra stops at points with amazing views.
The downside - Sprinter vans that everyone seems to be using for these excursions have tiny seats - 5'8", 170lbs man (that's 172cm, 77 kilos) could not fit in the seat. Makes the ride very uncomfortable and painful at times.
Kaveri, Nov 2022
Amazing trip. Also covers Geothermal locations in Reyjkanes.
Excellent guide. Must go for everyone wanting to know about geothermal centres and see hot springs
Audrey_S, Sep 2022
Lovely bus trip, but it was not a hike. The experience was different from what was expected- and that would be fine if they had told us the plan had changed but there was no communication to that effect.
Lady_N, Aug 2022
I been wanting to do this excursion for some time and I finally got to do it. For someone that loves to hike the experience was one of a kind. The scenery was breathtaking, is everything I imagined and more. I recommend everyone to go, just make sure to stay warm.
George_M, Aug 2021
There was no live volcano, despite the advertisements. We should have had more warning of the possibility of only seeing smoke. We should have been warned how hard the walk was. But on the plus side, the up-close view of recently flowing black lava was very interesting and the walk was fun, and a great day out. Overall, very satisfied with the exercise and the experience.
Jane_F, Jul 2021
Great experience even though the weather was not the best (rain, wind, cold). Had plenty of time to explore the area. Guides were great.

Interesting excursion along the most recent lava fields not far from Reykjavik. The climb to the volcanic crater offers a breathtaking view.
