Itinerary
Depart your central Reykjavik hotel or Reykjavik cruise port by air-conditioned coach and venture into Iceland’s starkly beautiful interior of rugged peaks, pastures and volcanic plains.
Take in panoramic views of the plant that harnesses the area’s natural propensity for generating power, and hear how it produces renewable energy for more than half of Reykjavik's population.
Continue from here along the famous Golden Circle, the sightseeing route that showcases three of Iceland’s most spectacular natural wonders.
Stop by at Thingvellir National Park, a region of untouched beauty steeped in ancient history. Learn how it’s home to the original, outdoor site of Iceland’s first parliamentary assembly, the Althingi, that began in 930, and see the extraordinary Thingvellir rift, where the tectonic plates of America and Eurasia face each other over a narrow valley.
Snap photos as your guide explains how the plates are gradually pulling apart, and then continue to the Gullfoss waterfall. Marvel at the double-tiered falls and, with luck, catch sight of one of the famous rainbows that forms in the mists.
Next, visit the incredible geothermal region of Geysir, known for its hot springs and geysers. Take in the bubbling pools and steam vents, and see Strokkur, a waterspout that shoots to around 98 feet (30 meters) in the air.
Your tour then ends back at the original start point in Reykjavik.

Being a rather short tour, it might be better to book a longer one. It felt rushed at times, especially in Thingvellir and at the waterfall. Forget about sightseeing and eating a quick lunch, it’s either or. The guide made the effort of saying everything in English and German (on account of all the Germans onboard) but since we booked an English tour, I would have preferred English only and therefore maybe a bit more things explained instead of translating. Overall not a bad tour, reasonably priced for Iceland.

the driver and tourist guide are very professional in handling customers especially the scenic history and very helpful.

A 6 hour-trip to what Iceland is all about: geysers and other thermal experiences. The guide, Fossi (I think that is his name) was very good, giving a good deal of background information. We saw the main points on the Golden Circle tour -- the lake area, Geysers and the Goldfoss waterfall.

Fantastic. Organized, informative and a drop off bus was also arranged to get us back in time for our sail away. Highly recommended.
JOANNE_M, Aug 2026
Great trip, but don't do it shortly after arriving as it is a long day, we were exhausted from our plane ride and kept falling asleep!
Zainab_N, Aug 2026
The tour was very rushed - we didn’t get a lot of time at any spot making us feel like we needed to hurry or we would be late.
The guide piarni was average - at the sights he would go ahead with the first couple of people from the group, share information with them and then leave.
It would be a lot better if the tour could be increased by even 30 min to allow some time to soak in the sights

Take rain gear! If not for rain then for wind. The weather can change quickly.
The scenery and the stops were beautiful and the guide shared great info and wonderful stories with us.

None of the tour takes place in the city of Reykjavik. It is a good tour for those who are interested in the geology of the area.

The tour was fine (not great - see below) but our experience with this tour company was bad. In spite of getting a confirmation email the day before on the pickup location, the bus did not show up to pick us up. After some time we called the tour operator they said that they have a different pick up location for us. Asked us to come to the new spot. We scrambled to find a taxi which is not easy to find in downtown Reykjavik. We arrived at the new bus stop called BS1 and went searching and found our bus just in time. So it was an anxious moment. Then the tour guide was speaking in very low tone and we could not understand him. Once we arrived at a spot he would just walk fast towards the attraction and was hard to keep up. Not a great tour guide. Overall not a great experience.

It ticked off two of my bucket list. Our tour guide was very friendly and a mine of information. We hardly had a quiet moment. He kept us informed throughout.

This tour was wonderful for both my wife and I. We got to see some very special places and spend an ample amount of time there. The guide was particularly patient when one family was late, getting back to the bus and then stood outside the door smoking. I think it was frustrating for many on the bus. I did the Matt blip. It was a wonderful trip. If you’re taking an excursion on a bus with a bunch of people, it’s good to be mindful to get back a few minutes before the guide and driver want to head to the next stop.

It was a good tour, could have used a bit more time in a few places. At the end, my husband fell out of the bus at the back steps. The tour guide immediately called for assistance, we were transported to the ER. He did not sustain dangerous injuries-very lucky, but spent 3 hrs in the ER.

The sites themselves and our tour guide and driver were great. Unfortunately, we received a message from Viator three days before the tour that the operator for the tour and pickup location had changed. We had to take a shuttle bus to the main bus terminal to get the tour bus, which was fine, but it took over thirty minutes to get from the shuttle bus stop to the terminal with all of the other shuttle stops. By this time, the bus was almost completely full so we had to sit in the back next to several families with loud children under five and could not hear the tour guide. I would recommend doing the Golden Circle tour as the sites themselves were gorgeous, but look for either a private driver or provider other than Reykjavik Excursions.

Outstanding service, with a lovely guide and trusted driver.
Guide very knowledgeable about the whole tour.
Nancy_B, Aug 2026
Beautiful scenery, gorgeous waterfalls, good food stop, great tour guide! Funny and informative and helpful!!

Come prepared to do a lot of walking and step climbing Bring comfortable hiking shoes. Bring a parka for the waterfall spray and possible soaking experience. Come with a healthy open youthful heart no matter the age if you want to experience the full adventure. You will see geysers, waterfalls, glaciers, active volcanoes, black beach, puffins and more. Awesome tour. Highly recommend it.
Younghee_L, Aug 2026
As long as the weather is good ( it rained the whole time for us). It it hits the highlights of the golden circle. Time spent at the national park was rather short so it limited what could be done. Wish that was longer.
Ghada_S, Aug 2026
It was nice! I wish the guide was open to questions even from the back of the bus and that he went down to sites with us to explain/guide. Otherwise, amazing experience.
SHARON_G, Aug 2026
Fair amount of walking on uneven terrain. Dylan our tour guide was very informative and everywhere we went was wonderful.
Shirley_S, Aug 2026
Beautiful drive through countryside with interesting stops and the falls were amazing.
Our guide was informative
Kathleen_P, Aug 2026
It was great! Gudjon has a vast knowledge of Iceland and it's geology and he is very entertaining. Gudjon and his driving partner Ollivia are top notch.
Terry_K, Aug 2026
Beautiful sites, but the busses used were the most cramped we have been on in the 5 days in Iceland. Knees go into back of seat in front of you, not a comfortable 6 1/2 trip. Thank god for stops.
Tour guide talked almost the entire trip, too much. Although we want to hear about the history, culture and sites she dedicated 2 hours of her apparent love of literature and Icelandic writers. We must have heard the author Loxness mentioned 50 times. Too much!
Keith_B, Aug 2026
Excellent tour. 10 out of 10, thanks to our guide and driver, Richie and Bartek. Richie’s knowledge of Iceland was outstanding.
Michelle_M, Aug 2026
This tour came with great reviews. It was perfect for experiencing some of Iceland’s iconic and historic sites. The Gullfoss waterfall was truly magnificent. It was also great to see the Strokkur Geyser erupt several times during our visit. This tour allowed us to check off some must-see sites in just a few hours. This came with the added benefit of additional information and interesting facts from our tour guide.
MICHAEL_B, Aug 2026
Excellent guide and well organised. We were at cruise terminal on Queen anne.Took their pick up bus to main bus terminal no hassle and dropped us off at ship. 6 half hour tour well worth the money. Plenty time at each site we had costa coffee at gullfell waterfalls , lots of steps down but time to do it all. Geyser showed every 10 mins...

We have taken dozens of Viator tours all over the world and the norm is for the operator to provide contact info in case there is an issue. This company did not do this. We were at the indicated stop 20 minutes early. As each tour stopped we listened for our name and when we didn’t hear them asked the driver to see the list to verify we were not on it.
20 minutes after the pick up time we finally got through to someone who claimed that we were not at the stop and they left without us. When we requested a refund they said no because their van was there, which made it even worse because it meant that they had neglected to put our name on the passenger list. Further, the company claimed that the driver was at that stop for the obligatory one minute, which because of that they are not responsible for not picking us up or refunding the services that we never received: this is at a bus stop with numerous tours and people being picked up. Lastly, the other two Viator tours that we took on the subsequent days told us that if they can’t find a customer, they will call them. This clearly did not happen with this tour. This level of unprofessional behavior is not typical for Viator and I urge travelers to avoid this tour like the plague.

BG was great! Funny and knowledgeable, sites were not overcrowded and beautiful! Some light walking.
Rodger_G, Aug 2026
Excellent guide and driver stops were busy but still managed to see American tourists being soaked by Geyser 😂😂
ROBERT_D, Aug 2026
The geyser was interesting and the waterfall was spectacular. The national park visit was ok, not really much to look at.
The 61/2 hour bus ride was long but the waterfall made it worth it.
Response from Host, Aug 2026
Hello,
Thank you for sharing your feedback! We’re glad to hear that you enjoyed the geyser and found Gullfoss Waterfall spectacular.
The Golden Circle covers a lot of ground in one day, so we understand that the journey can feel long, but we’re happy to hear that Gullfoss made the experience worthwhile. Þingvellir is also a place whose significance is often found in its combination of history, geology, and landscape.
Thank you for joining us, and we hope to welcome you again!
Best regards,
Sesili

Beautiful highlights of the country in one day. The time was a bit short but you can always go back.
Response from Host, Aug 2026
Hello,
Thank you for your lovely feedback! We’re glad you enjoyed seeing some of Iceland’s most beautiful highlights in one day.
We understand that with so much to see, the time at each stop can sometimes feel short. We hope the tour gave you a great introduction to the Golden Circle and perhaps inspired you to return and explore these places at a slower pace next time.
We hope to see you again!
Best regards,
Sesili
