This was an amazing tour! We were able to see the lights and it was just awe inspiring! Our tour guide was amazing at taking pictures, we only needed an iPhone! We had a warm bus to rest in, and the hot chocolate was actually really good! I would definitely recommend!

Incredible experience, we got very lucky with the activity being so strong but the tour was made by our amazing guide Daniel and our driver Slavomir (forgive the spelling) Daniel was engaging and informative as well as being really open to all our questions and taking our pictures! Thanks to both for making turning 40 at midnight very very special

It was incredible. The cold and slippery ice was worth it! The tour guide was very sincere and truly cared about giving us the experience we wanted. Excellent work!

Amazing! Must do!

Leroy_B, Apr 2026
This was an amazing experience. You will have to do your research on the probability of seeing the lights based on the season and weather conditions. Our tour guide did a great job of setting expectations that we would see the lights. He delivered.

“David” was a very informative guide and taught us all about what conditions were needed to see the Northern Lights and gave us realistic expectations. Thankfully we were able to immediately see the beautiful lights!

Unsuccessfully

Eduardo_J, Mar 2026
I was disappointed about the fact that there is not a clear information that the possibility of not be able to see nothing of the northern lights was real. Despite of this my I do understand that the weather conditions are a major factor for success. So the bus driving for 4 hours became a negative experience in search for a spot. If you wish to experience this activity I advise you not to do on the last day of your trip, like I did because the travel agency do propose you for another day tour..

Response from Host, Apr 2026

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are sorry the experience did not meet your expectations. Northern Lights tours always depend on weather, cloud cover, and natural activity, which means sightings can never be guaranteed. For that reason, we offer guests the option to rebook for another departure when conditions allow. We appreciate your comments regarding expectation setting.

Recommend trying during fall or winter

Cynthia, Mar 2026
Of course, we know there are no guarantees for this tour. However, our guide somehow was able to see what we could not so that we were able to point our cameras and see the meager show nature had for us. Unfortunately, cloud cover impacted our view. I awarded four stars only because our guide tended to ramble and contradict himself at times. He also did not wear any reflective clothing or patches so that we easily lost him in the crowds as he led us to different areas to look for the lights. My friend lost him on the way to the only place we viewed the lights, so she just returned to the bus, completely missing out. I lost him on the way back and couldn’t find our bus due to other busses blocking my view of it. It was worth a try, even though the lights were weak.

The most beautiful Northern Lights!

Diana_Y, Mar 2026
This tour was amazing! The bus picked us up from our hotel, on time. Our guide, Hamsel, was very knowledgeable and skilled! He knew where to look for holes in the cloud cover and we chased the aurora. We saw it at 3 different locations! The last one was the best, with the green and pink swirls dancing in the sky—more beautiful than I ever imagined! I’ve been dreaming of seeing the Northern Lights my whole life. I’ve witnessed them in the Midwest a few times but it was nothing like this! I’m so happy that Mother Nature cooperated with our talented tour guides to give us an amazing show! I could have stayed out there all night but the tour had to end. I highly recommended this tour!

Positive

Ismail_G, Mar 2026
The guide was nice. Unfortunately, we did not see the northern lights properly due to the weather condition. However, company offered us to book the trip on another day for free. So it was nice of them.

It’s worth the wait!

Gianfranco_G, Mar 2026
This tour was on a night that had all the makings of being a disappointment. Skies were super cloudy and all the apps had the percent chance of show at 10%. But our guide was committed! All the other tour buses started leaving and then one minute after they left the most beautiful lights display filled the sky and we were the only ones to see it!!

Special birthday

Christina_K, Mar 2026
Coming to Iceland, I knew that it wasn’t always possible to see the Northern Lights. In the days leading up to the tour, it seemed like my odds were 50/50. As we were driving out of Reykjavík, Kristi was teaching us about the science of the Northern Lights. About 20 minutes into our drive, she exclaimed that we could see them out the bus window! We pulled over as soon as possible and had a great view of the Lights. As a solo traveler, I don’t have many photos of myself but Kristi was more than happy to take photos of me with the Lights. We stayed in the same spot for an hour or two and got to enjoy the show. Overall the tour was great, Kristi was amazing, and seeing the Lights was the best birthday gift :)

Weather not participating for this tour.

Paulina_L, Mar 2026
It was canceled due to the weather. No fault of visitors but website wouldn’t let me reschedule. It would not be fun in the weather Iceland was having.

Response from Host, Mar 2026

Thanks for the feedback. Just to clarify: when we cancel a tour due to weather, we do offer a free reschedule. Rescheduling isn’t always possible through the reseller/website portal itself. Guests need to contact BusTravel Iceland directly (reply to our cancellation email/SMS or message us) and we’ll arrange the rebooking, subject to availability. If you still want to reschedule, please reach out to us with your booking reference and preferred new date.

Outstanding View of the Northern Lights

Genevieve_B, Mar 2026
On the way there David our tour guide warned us it’s possible we might not see the northern lights but to everyone’s delight, we saw a won derful display! David hadn’t been to this location before and our driver, suggested it and it was outstanding! David told us it was a corona, which is not common! Over the top satisfied and now I can check off another bucket list item😊

Best Northern Lights Bus Tour

Zahra_N, Mar 2026
We had such a great experience on our Northern Lights bus tour with Kristi and Robert. They were both friendly, down-to-earth, and clearly knew exactly what they were doing. Robert handled the winter driving like a pro, and Kristi kept us informed about the weather and what we were looking for without overdoing it. You could tell they genuinely wanted everyone to have the best chance possible to see the lights, and they were patient about finding the right spot away from city lights. When the aurora finally appeared, it was absolutely worth the wait. They also helped with camera settings, which made a big difference for photos. Overall, it felt well-organized but relaxed, and we never felt rushed. I’d definitely recommend going with Kristi and Robert if you’re hoping to see the Northern Lights.

We caught the lights!

Karalena_K, Mar 2026
Tour guide did a great job explaining how to find “suspicious clouds” than are in fact the northern lights. He also gave suggestions on how to take photographs. We went to two locations which was great. Hot chocolate was a nice touch.

Amazing experience.

Connie_G, Mar 2026
It is a unique experience. Driver was very helpful. He did his best to take us where we could see the lights.

Great experience, tour guide was very nice and knowledgeable. He went out of his way to show us how to get the best pictures using our phone settings and explained the science behind the lights. We went in mid March and the lights were spectacular.

Northern lights tour was...

Yvette_d, Mar 2026
Northern lights tour was enjoyable, the lights were faint to the naked eye, but caught mostly in photos which was nice. That said we went with a big group and the tour guide stopped us at 2 places. Really didn't do anything special or provide and amazing details. They also didn't do the hot chocolate part, didn't ask why but it should've been part of it and wasn't. Overall had a nice time and thankful the bus driver got us there and back safely.

Great tour! Especially compared to the other options

Jaznae_S, Mar 2026
Peppe and Eugene were great! We went to three spots and saw the lights dancing. Peppe was very knowledgeable on the auroras and made sure to say how lucky we were for such a low visibility probability. It was also great that they gave tips for how to find the lights on our own. I overheard other tours that only went to one location. I also tried their hot chocolate 🤫 Peppe and Eugune's was way better

Well organised, need new tour guides

Susan_J, Mar 2026
The tour was well organised and we were lucky enough to see the lights. However, I found the tour guide Darren to be quite unpleasant, he was not icelandic but rather american, it was a stark contrast to how welcoming and friendly Icelandic people are. He was quite sarcastic and impatient which kinda ruined what should have been a magical night.

Response from Host, Mar 2026

Thanks for your feedback, and we’re glad you were able to see the Northern Lights. We’re sorry to hear you didn’t connect with Darren’s communication style on the night. Our team is international (we have guides from many countries) and we hold everyone to the same standards of professionalism and guest care. We’ll share your comments internally so we can review tone and ensure the experience feels as welcoming as it should. Thank you for coming with us.

Worth the trip!

Helen_T, Mar 2026
Our guid, Udo, was very informative, helpful, and personable. The bus ride was comfortable, and the rest facilities were cleanest of all, we saw the Aurora Borealis!

Amazing Northern Lights

Connie_A, Mar 2026
Kristi was a wonderful guide. Learned a great deal about the amazing Northern Lights. Would do this trip again with same tour. We were lucky to have the driver and Kristi taking us out!!!

Amazing view, saw them...

Rob_H, Mar 2026
Amazing view, saw them within 30mins, very vivid. Kristi was a great tour guide, showed you how to get amazing photos

Spectacular

Maria_G, Mar 2026
We saw the lights at the first stop. Our guide was very good at explaining the necessary conditions for the lights to be visible. Bring layers because it was very cold!

Giuseppe explained...

Harold_H, Mar 2026
Giuseppe explained everything very well, it is not a guarantee that we would see the lights however we were lucky and were able to see a good show. Highly recommended!

11/10 Amazing tour

Gavin_B, Mar 2026
The tour guide Jessica was very informative and knowledgeable. She explained everything on how to best prepare for the lights if they appear such as camera settings and to avoid looking at bright lights before so your eyes can acclimate to the darkness quicker. We got super lucky that both of the locations the tour took us to we were able to splendid displays of the northern lights, and with Jessica’s advice I got some amazing photos as well. The ride was comfortable and the hot chocolate was really good!!

Great tour - unfortunately no auroras!

Kathreen_M, Mar 2026
We booked to go on Saturday spent all night going to different areas where the sky cleared but unfortunately didn’t see any. They let us book on again for free, but again no luck. The hot chocolate had cinnamon which I wasn’t keen on. We knew booking on this trip and seeing the auroras were by chance, so can’t fault it as the driver and tour guide did their best.

Chasing the magic! 100% recommend!

Amanda_K, Mar 2026
Noi and Yousef were absolutely amazing! They told us all about the culture of Iceland and really made it a full well rounded experience. We got to see an amazing northern lights show as noi and yousef made the extra effort to find us the perfect spot to see the lights dance. Chasing the northern lights was a true hunt but one I will never forget. Highly recommend to anyone and everyone! 100% would do again!

Superb trip

Paul_H, Mar 2026
So glad we got to see the lights. It was 50/50 chance to see them and we did. Our guide Darren and driver Arthur were great and made sure we had the time for photos. We originally booked the first night of our trip which was cancelled and rebooked for 2nd night. So my tip is to book the earliest chance you can just in case.
