Unique excursion

The excursion was a unique and impressive experience. We were able to visit 3 different ice caves, being totally alone, being able to take the photos and videos we wanted, as well as enjoying the caves with greater privacy and tranquility. Special mention to Alex and Barbara, who were great guides and managed to make the excursion an unforgettable experience.

Worth the hike to see this beautiful ice cave!

We absolutely loved this hike to the ice cave. The meeting point is conveniently located in the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon parking lot. Micro spikes and helmet are provided. The ice cave we explored was huge; you could drive a truck through it. As a bonus, we witnessed some ice calving at the glacier. If it helps you, bring hiking sticks for balance. After or before your tour, have a bite to eat from one of the food trucks stationed there. The views of the lagoon from the parking lot are stunning, and Diamond Beach a short walk across the street. Make no mistake, you will earn the stunning views on this trek as I would estimate 4 miles/6.4 km round trip. I would highly recommend this tour if you wanted to experience an outdoor adventure near Diamond Beach.

The glacier lagoon is nothing short of extraordinary—an otherworldly landscape that feels entirely unlike anything I’ve encountered before. Walking across the glacier itself was a rare and memorable experience, offering a tangible connection to one of nature’s most powerful and ancient formations. Our guide brought the environment to life with a deep understanding of glacial formation, answering every question with clarity and a touch of well-timed humor that made the experience even more engaging. The ice caves, while smaller in scale than some might imagine, are remarkable in their own right—intricate, ever-changing formations shaped by the forces of nature. Approaching the visit with realistic expectations is key; these are not vast, cathedral-like caverns, but rather intimate and striking natural features. With that perspective, the experience is deeply rewarding and well worth it.

The magic of ice caves and Vatnajokul

If you are looking for the most epic moment of your trip to Iceland you can certainly only rely on Glacier Trips. An excursion to the most majestic glacier of all, the Vatnajökull. Meet in Jokulsarlon, parking right next to Diamond Beach, where Stefan was waiting for us, along with our other 4 companions. The experience begins with a quick briefing on the day and then off wearing the harnesses. Breathtaking 30 minute drive on a super jeep before arriving at the starter point where the magic begins. Arrived on the spot you start walking, cross bridges and clay soils, until you reach the foot of the glacier where you will finally wear crampons to be able to take the first steps on it. From there will begin a real magical walk where you will have the opportunity to visit some wonders that mother nature has made available to us until you reach, through passages carved by the wind and ice caves until you get above the summit where the view leaves you breathless. On the way back we stopped in an immense ice cave where in addition to admiring the wonderful designs of the ice we could refresh ourselves drinking fresh water and some snacks and then return to the jeep. During the journey Stefan put us at ease telling anecdotes about the landscape and illustrating everything that could be admired in technical detail, a guide really prepared both from a theoretical and a practical point of view, a true ice Viking, one who really has confidence and respect with the Vatnajokul. It will certainly be the top experiences that we will tell on our social channels.

Great recommendation, very worth seeing

Relatively easy tour. In the caves it was wet in April with some puddles - sturdy and dense footwear recommended. Spikes and a helmet were provided by the guide and were very helpful. We were on the road for a good 2 hours and had plenty of time to photograph. The guide adapted to our pace, put a lot of effort into the photos and was helpful. Since we were very fast, we looked at more caves.

This is a great outdoor activity to do while in Iceland, very unique. This is one of the few companies that really have small groups (this makes total difference while exploring the caves) Highly recommended PS: Make sure to check their website prior booking here on Viator as they often update the information there more often
