The guide and owner, Dennis, was great. His stories of how he found the breed, how they came to be, were fascinating and humorous. It was great to walk around the farm and see all ages of horses, from the young to the geriatric, all lovingly cared for.

Ask to pet the horses but you can love all over the donkeys! So gentle! Also have a new appreciation for the Gypsy lifestyle.

My partner and I were in Ocala for the Rock the Country concert and had some extra time and were looking for something to do. This was at the top of everyone's recommendations so we decided to do it last minute and it ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. What an incredible story Dennis Thompson had to share! The first half of the tour is some background and cultural education which only made the beautiful ranch more impressive, and the second half Dennis drove us and the other two people on our tour to see his many horses, donkeys, and mules where we could get out and pet them. The animals came right up to us as we drove up and were very clearly loved! He even let us into one of the pastures with a mini donkey that came right up and laid on my lap. I can't say enough good things about the people that run this place, it was abundantly clear that they were passionate and good hearted. HIGHLY recommended to anyone in the area to stop in and spend a few hours at Gypsy Gold Horse Farm.

The owner, family and staff were very hospitable and knowledgeable. We learnt a great deal. All of the horses looked very healthy and content. We are looking forward to revisiting again later in the year.

Amazing experience with the man who discovered a new breed of horse, the Gypsy Vanner. Beautiful time exploring the farm, petting the horses, giant donkeys and parrots. If you want to see the real Ocala, I highly recommend this horse farm tour. The owner shares his super interesting life history with the group. He needs to write a book!

Loved the backstory of how these horses came to the US and how the owner is trying to bring a positive light to the gypsy culture! I could listen to him talk all day. Hoping he completes writing his book soon! Loved how we got to feed all the horses too. Very enjoyable experience. Recommend for all, especially those that don't know too much about horses (like me!).

Every minute of the lecture and tour was terrific. We learned so much about the history of this special horse breed and then were thrilled to get up close to the sons and daughters of the famous Gypsy Vanners we learned about. Dennis Thompson is a master story teller.

The tour of the farm was most memorable. A thoroughbred had just given birth to a colt. Thrilling to watch him literally “get his legs.” The guide might consider a microphone with speaker allowing the group to hear her points of knowledge, yet low enough not to bother the horses.
The first hour was as he noted “ an old man’s “ PowerPoint. Dennis is a wealth of historical knowledge of his beloved “ Gypsy Vanners.” I would encourage him to integrate large easels with pictures, a couple of “ mappings” reinforcing the lineage of horse breeds he speaks of… Vanners, mules, donkeys, etc.
The group of twenty plus attendees were motivated to be on the farm ready to hear, see, touch and leave feeling Dennis’ passion. A few adjustments will ensure maximum joy for Gypsy Vanners.

What a memorable experience! We took the 2 hour tour this week and thoroughly enjoyed it. I had no idea about the history of Gypsy Vanner horses and the education by Dennis was educational and entertaining. I will recommend this tour to future visiting friends and family (and come back myself). This is a special place.

I really enjoyed the speech that Dennis gave on the history of bringing the 1st Vanners to this country. You don't realize what goes into the discovery of a new type/breed until you hear it from the horses mouth. Having been acquainted with Vanners before the temperament and intelligence they possess is truly amazing. It's like a dream of the breeder was pulled from the sky and woven into the DNA. They are a truly remarkable companion.

I booked this trip as a surprise to my friend who has a Gypsy Vanner out in AZ. She was beyond excited. Loved her time learning about the history and heard about some relatives of her horse along the way. Dennis and Erin were great hosts.
