Itinerary

Meet your local guide in central Lisbon and get a good overview of the city as you ride a local tram to the riverside Belém district, and listen to stories about the area’s remarkable art and culture.

Enter the Jerónimos Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to discover graceful columns and stonework, then learn about the monks that prayed and worked here for 400 years. Hear stories about the powerful spice trader who built the monastery and church to celebrate the discoveries of Vasco da Gama, then visit the grave of the Portuguese explorer. Trace a route through Belém’s distinctive Manueline architecture, also known as Portuguese late Gothic, and take in the geometric beauty of the formal Gardens of Belém.

Enjoy time beside the Tagus River, where generations of Portuguese sailors set sail for unfamiliar oceans, and see the country’s most iconic figures set into the Padrão dos Descobrimentos, a white stone monument at the river’s edge. Take in the UNESCO-listed Belém Tower, another Vasco da Gama tribute, then get a taste of Belém’s sweetest heritage at Pastéis de Belém, a historic bakery that’s famed for creating Portugal's famous Pastel de Nata.

Best walking tour in Lisbon, make sure to book with Ricardo he is a true gentleman that knows a lot of interesting information I went in solo tour and he was kind enough to explain everything in Portuguese so I can practice

It Really Is Private!

The tour title does say "private" - but I don't think I took that in! I was surprised when it was just the tour guide and myself. This was a wonderful tour and Filippa was a great guide. She gave a quick tour of downtown before we got on a tram to Belem. Belem is a nice area on the outskirts of Lisbon. She will take you to see beautiful sights and you'll get to try the original Belem tart (WORTH IT!)

Interesting tour. Most information about the Jeronimo site more informative on Youtube. This costly guided tour is not worth the price.You can easily plan it yourself in advance and save a lot by using a taxi to get there and visit the sites on you own. Language barrier between us and the guide.

This was an excellent tour which was even better than we anticipated as I thought we would just be part of a larger group whereas it turned out to be a private tour with our excellent guide, Ricardo. Ricardo was very knowledgeable and totally unflappable when having to adapt our travel arrangements when the tram failed to turn up. We had a terrific tour of the key sites of Belem including the Church of Jerónimos, the Padrão dos Descobrimentos monument, the Belem tower and, of course, the Pasteis de Belem bakery.

Our guide was not quite accurate on the dates and information. This we discovered on a later tour when we happened to visit the same sites on our water front cycle ride on 28th. Our guide, for instance, told us that Azores is near Boston!! Otherwise a pleasant lady.

This tour was great value for money. I had assumed it would be a small group tour due to the price but it was 100 private. I had the lovely guide all to myself. The best part was feeling just like a local, catching the tram to Belém hearing about the various neighbourhoods along the way. The tour was perfect for seeing these out of the way sights, but the best part was trying the secret recipe pastry at the end. I felt like a 'traveller', not a 'tourist'. It was perfect!
