Southward quality, northward price

jaya_s, Jan 2021
I have used this same viator tour previously few times. Quality was much better on previous occasions. Guide used to guide personally, walk to each monument, point out historical facts, thoughts behind particular statue or engravings, special events happened in past. This time tour guide gave information about each place in the bus and dropped us there to explore on our own instead of walking with us and explaining. And please don’t blame this change on COVID as guide himself said he is young and healthy, doesn’t wear mask. I paid money for guided tour but this one was not

Great Tour to Take

Terry_B, Dec 2020
The tour was really informative. Our tour guide and the driver were really good and she, our guide, knew a lot of the history of DC. Our pass included tickets to go up to the top of the Washington Monument, which was breathtaking. Since we were the only 2 with tickets the bus just drove off and we had to find our own way back to the meeting point where we parked. Approx 2 miles. The only bad part was that.

Response from Host, Dec 2020

Best Tour of Our Lives

Every minute of the tour was WONDERFUL, from our tour guide and driver, to all the History we now know. So many sites that it definitely paid for itself. Going up in the Washington Monument was breathtaking. Well worth the ticket price.

Good Tour

Good tour, good information. Sad to miss Washington Monument but under stand totally outside tour company control.

Great tour

Eric_M, Mar 2020
Great tour with Jana and Ali. Jana is very knowledgeable and went above and beyond. Just enough time at each stop to be interested and not bored with too much time there. Bonus was being able to see the presidential motorcade go by at the end of the tour. Only advice for parents would be to pack snacks and lunch as the tour is 4 hours over lunch time, luckily we were prepared.

Washington Visit

Was an experience to go into the Washington Monument. The conscience of getting the buss in the middle of downtown was a great help.

A wonderful experience.....learned so much......guide was very knowledgeable, plus had a cute sense of humor. Would never have been able to learn as much as I did on my own. Would definitely recommend.

The reserved admission to the Washington Monument was a huge plus on this tour and is the main reason we booked this particular tour. Also, it was a very hot on the day of our tour so traveling by air-conditioned bus to the site was wonderful. Also, our guide was very knowledgeable about each of the memorials and landmarks which we visited during this tour

Only disappointing part of the tour was Washington Monument was closed. Tour company offered us a cruise on the river instead which was lovely.

Karen A, Nov 2016
The tour was excellent. Unfortunately, the Washington Monument was closed, but as a result we got to see all of the monuments except for WWII, due to some event or road construction issues, and we also got to see the Battle of the Buldge Monument in Arlington Cemetery. Our guide was excellent, had a good sense of humor, and always made sure everyone was present before he started talking at the monument sites. We did stop for lunch at one of the park refreshment stands - food just OK, but the tour can't control that.

Joey our Tour Guide and Sam our Driver provided us with an excellent tour of DC. Joey provided a lot more information than you would expect from a Tour Guide and it made our visit even better than we expected. Sam was very polite and efficient and was always waiting to take us to the next point.

Kenneth D. H, Oct 2016
We failed to reach our designated starting point for the tour as a result of a failure of the subway track. The tour operators were very gracious in allowing us to reschedule for the next day. Our tour guide Joey was excellent. She was very casual in her presentation with the knowledge of a history professor. It was a very enjoyable tour

Suzanne B, Oct 2016
We were told to be thereat 9:30 am, 30 min early. We were. It was very cold and windy. The company bus did not show up until 10 minutes late, then kept us standing outside for another 10 min until they decided what to do. We were almost 30 min late starting the tour. Then we were rushed around to make up for it, I think, we missed some stops. The elevator tour to the top of the Washington monument was cancelled due to repair, so they gave us a trip on the Potomac River for an hour. What a waste of time, we could not see any of the things the tour guide talked about. The tour was supposed to be from 10 am to 2 o'clock, We asked about an opportunity to get food and were told to :sorry, this is not an eating tour. you can get something at a kiosk if you get a chance. Instead of bringing us back to the pickup point, at 2 o'clock we were told we would be taken to Arlington Cemetery and then it would be up to us to get back, and :there is no food available at the cemetery. I don't know what they are thinking. it was way over priced for that kind of treatment.

Margaret P, Oct 2016
The tour was fine and we saw the monuments mentioned on the website. The tour guide was OK but I head other tour operators at various monuments telling their participants much more. I found myself shadowing them to hear what they were saying. Also, the tour included reserved admission to the Washington Monument but due to elevator difficulties, we could not go there. This was not the fault of Viator or the tour company. Unfortunately for us, it was really the major reason we bought the tour. They substituted a cruise on the Potomac which was very nice but took up more time. Therefore, we were rushed through the other stops. The tour guide kept telling us to hurry up because we needed to be at the cruise dock at a certain time. Also, there seemed to be a lack of coordination between the bus driver and the tour guide. Neither took ownership of the tour and details and there was confusion at certain points. One couple was not on the right tour - not sure how that happened - and they had the tour which included the Arlington Cemetery. We were told when we got back from the cruise that the bus was going to Arlington Cemetery and we would have to find our own way back to our starting point. This stop was not even on our tour! After much discussion with the bus driver the tour guide wouldn't get involved, he agreed to take us back to our starting point after he dropped the couple off at Arlington. Another couple had purchased hotel pick-up and drop-off and they had to be insistent with the bus driver to follow through and drop them at their hotel. The bus had absolutely no shocks and was extremely uncomfortable. I think the tour itself is worth it but the tour company needs to get their details straight and the tour guide and bus driver need to work together.

We really enjoyed our tour that ended with a trip up the inside of the Washington Monument. We really enjoyed our guide and the selection of monuments chosen. It was the perfect amount of time for each stop and the bus was extremely comfortable in the summer heat of the city.

SeaGhost, Sept 2016
Viator misrepresented this tour. I have had several bad experiences with them and would not book again unless there was no other option. In this case, my tour was supposed to include a trip up the Washington Monument. Although I later learned that it had been closed for quite some time, I was never notified of this by Viator. The tour itself and quirky guide ended up being pretty good, but I have to rate this badly to let others know about the problems with Viator. One can usually find better tours at less price from other companies. I advise you to look elsewhere first.

Unfortunately the Washington Monument was closed unexpectedly due to a problem with the elevator. I booked the tour strictly for the Washington Monument. Although some of the other attractions were interesting, I had seen most of these before.

Excellent tour on an air conditioned coach with water supplied - important for a hot August weekend! with all the monuments and memorials covered as well as the finale of going to the top of the Washington monument. Would highly recommend!

James M, Aug 2016
Communication with the company was very good. The driver and guide were prompt and professional. In the summer heat of DC, it was a welcome relief to ride in the comfort and cool of their transportation! We were at all the monuments listed and received great information from our guide. Be aware that when you finish at the Washington Monument, you need to walk, or find your own transportation, to any other site or the Metro.

Christina P, Aug 2016
We had a wonderful time on our tour with Brian. We began right on time with a mini-bus that probably could seat 30 people. We started at the capital building, then off to the white house and admin buildings. Brian was very knowledgeable about the history of each location and added extra details that we all found helpful. We visited I think every monument, ending at the Washington Monument around 2 with timed admission. There is no way we could have covered this ground on our own and had a wonderful time. Highly recommend

Washington was awesome... Viator just plain sucks... Unorganized, representatives at meeting point rude and very unfriendly. Really we would have been better off getting there and asking around for the best tour. The locals really do know the best ones. Sorry Viator never again.
