What are people saying about Pompeii

A great guide makes a huge difference !
Vincenzo was a fantastic guide, so far - the best we had experienced in the previous two weeks. Very knowledgeable, with a gift of relating what was on display to what the science already knew about the daily realities of ancient Pompeii. He was very smart and tactful in suggesting available options vs. things like walking distance or angles of slopes, took good care about everyone on the tour to make sure nobody was left behind without loosing anything from his presentation dynamics.

Herculaneum took my breath away
Our archeologist guide (Benedicto) was very knowledgable and personable. I agreed with him that Herculaneum was more interesting, less crowded and more enjoyable than Pompeii. It was really a wow and I will definitely go back. Pompeii was a bit chaotic crowd-wise and the public bathrooms were woefully inadequate for the number of people, so the long hot wait for them was a huge drag after a long train ride. That and the crowds dampened my opinion of the Pompeii tour. (Our guide did a great job of navigating us through!) Other thing to consider is the amount of walking for this excursion. There is a LOT -both in the ruins and getting from Pompeii to Herculaneum. If you go in summer, bring water. Our tour guide recommended visits during cooler months and noted that 4pm was the best time to go to Pompeii. Despite the crowds, these ruins are amazing and I would highly recommend this tour.

I don’t remember our...
I don’t remember our guide’s name but he had a hat and umbrella for the sun, but more importantly he was very knowledgeable not only on Pompeii but in general Roman history and other important aspects. He was funny, smart, etc. I have had other tours on our trip that were not worth the hundreds of dollars. This one was maybe 50 dollars for 2 hours per person which felt very fair but actually was a good tour unlike the ones I paid for in Rome.

This is the one!
Luca was our guide and he was a gem! Truly a fantastic, patient, funny and kind guide. I could imagine him running his own show! The entire experience was such a pleasure. If the price feels high to you, reconsider and then book it. It’s worth it and you couldn’t see Pompeii a better way.

Pompeii is the crown jewel of Italy’s archaeological treasure trove, but this ancient site is sprawling and offers little posted information explaining its jumble of ruins. Pompeii tours bring the history of the Roman city to life with archaeologist guides who provide insights about its excavated art and architecture, focusing on the highlights to cover the site in just a few hours. Pair Pompeii with a guided visit to nearby Herculaneum, a wine-tasting lunch in the surrounding vineyards, a hike to the volcanic crater atop Mt. Vesuvius, or a scenic excursion along the Amalfi Coast for an unforgettable day trip.
