It was a great tour. The guide was very knowledgeable. The pace of the tour was good. I recommend the Askos 3 hour tour led by an archaeologist. You will understand Pompeii much better with this tour than a self guided tour.
It's been a dream of mine to visit Pompeii my entire life, ever since doing a school project on Mount Vesuvius. This tour brought everything to life in a way I could never have imagined. Our guide (I'm sorry I can't remember her name) was incredible - very informative, knowledgeable, and able to bring us to sites while avoiding the lines with her expertise of the area. Definitely wear comfortable shoes and bring a fan if you're traveling in the summer - it gets HOT but is SO worth it! Seeing Villa of the Mysteries in person was one of the coolest pieces of history I've ever seen, definitely worth seeing. My only note is technological - the earphones provided for the tour were incredibly difficult to stay in your ears, especially when sweating on a hot day, so it made it tricky to hear the guide if you weren't holding it up to your ear. But not the fault of our guide! Overall, a guided tour of Pompeii is a must - you won't know what you're looking at by yourself, it's easy to get lost, and you'll miss expert knowledge of the history. We can't wait to come back and see even more of the ever-changing sites at Pompeii.
Meters away from train station to start.look for the attendees with company shirt on.Yolanda our guide EXCELLENT.Yolanda made great decisions regarding use of time and shade. She led our English speaking tour.Do not let her go. Give her a raise.!!! I have visited Pompeii in past but this was so much better!
Met at Pompeii, easy to find your group. Guide provided good context for the ruins. Group size was around 10-15 people.
Sergio was extremely knowledgeable and full of interesting facts. Be prepared to walk on uneven stone paths. Bring a small umbrella if it is hot as there is no shade. Wonderful experience.
We really enjoyed our tour of Pompeii. Our guide was knowledgeable, engaging, and had a great sense of humor, which made the history of Pompeii come alive. The tour was informative and well-paced, and we left with a much deeper understanding of the site and its significance.
My only complaint was that our tour time was changed, and we were not notified until the day of the tour. As a result, we missed our original scheduled tour and had to be added to a different group. Fortunately, this was accommodated, and the guide for the new group was excellent, but better communication about schedule changes would have made the experience much less stressful.
Overall, the tour itself was good, and I would recommend it to anyone visiting Pompeii.
Informational tour with Anna Sorrento. She was knowledgeable and friendly. We saw a large percentage of Pompeii in our 3 hour tour.
We managed to visit on one of the hottest days of the year, but still had a great tour with Jolanta! In order to see everything (Pompeii is much bigger than I realized), the pace was pretty quick, but she did a great job showing us a huge variety of things. She also gave us some tips for areas to visit after the tour was over and they were great! Definitely glad we had her guidance before continuing at our own pace.
We chose the 3 hour tour with an archeologist. He was one of the many who had excavated the site. His knowledge was amazing. It's a gem of a site to visit but you can't see it all in 3 hours. Not overcrowded even though we went in peak season, August 2026. Probably because it's so big. Don't try and do this on your own, you need a guide. Only downside is unbearable heat this time of year. I would go when it's cooler. Taxi service can be a rip off so agree price before you get in the cab. Public transport is much cheaper but hot and crowded. Trains stop right outside entrance. A must-do but plan carefully.
Giulia was knowledgeable and brought the site to life! Highly recommend a guided tour over going without.
Great tour! Our guide did amazing at navigating the crowds and staying in the shade while keeping the group engaged. Would highly recommend.
Amazing opportunity to learn more about Pompeii and it's history. I learned so much about the history of Pompeii before the eruption as well as the research that continues at the site. We had an insightful, patient and kind guide, Theresa, who I would recommend to any English speaking tourist and probably any other languages she speaks as well.
3 hour tour, first hours we basically walked right past so many things and it felt like it was more of a lecture than a tour. I came to see things and learn not just be walked around and taught concepts. After this I wandered off on my own and had a great time but wished I had rented the audio guide. Since I was at the mercy of the group leader I could not access the Mystery Villa area I had paid for as they held the digital tickets...
One of the best, would recommend. Although the meet up instructions were slightly confusing, once we had found our guide, this tour went very well. Our guide, Paulo, was excellent. Extremely knowledgeable, he brought the tour to life. Very patient with some, he gave in depth answers to all questions, giving a local twist on events that occurred nearly 2000 years ago. We had regular stops and continually checked on everyone. Learning about life in the Roman world was fascinating. Visiting the different houses and seeing the incredibly well preserved frescoes was something to behold. Although not cheap, I thought this was very good value for money. Following our 3 hour tour we were able to continue exploring and remained another 2 hours. I would recommend this tour.
3 hours is a long time in that heat. Take water hats or shading umbrella. On the tour we passed 2 fountains to fill water bottles. The guide fogive me forgotten name was fantastic. She was an archaeologist on the site her knowledge was second to none!
Tour guide walked too fast and went too far ahead. When this happens we couldn’t hear through the listening device. Then had to search for the guide to get back in the tour. He also left us at a different exit then when we started. We were not aware this would happen.
Our guide Antonio was really great. Full of knowledge, funny, and had great stories. Thank you very much!
Awesome experience with a great knowledgeable tour guide made the experience much better we were able to see all the different areas and the best highlights of the area.
Great tour guide - experienced and funny. We didn’t see the major place where they have all the bodies but did see a few. Overall the tour guide was great. The quality of the audio was not - try to get closer to the guide to really hear the facts.
Overall, the tour was good and the guide was knowledgeable and easy to understand. We were able to see the highlights within 3hrs.
My only real complaint is that the tour is advertised as a small group with a maximum of 20 people, and our group was larger than that. Calling 20 people a “small group” is already a bit of a stretch, but exceeding the advertised limit shouldn’t be okay.
One tip: bring plenty of water, it was very hot in June!
Excellent pace, learned a lot. Wear a hat or bring umbrella and water is a must!! Sara was very informative, answered every question, responsive to requests for water breaks. Absolutely recommended!
(Also, the walk is on cobblestone and sand. Do not attempt if you have mobility issues.)
Our guide Ilaria was just incredible…. So knowledgeable about Pompeii, which is expected from a tour guide. But what made her special was her true enthusiasm for all things Pompeii, her sense of humor, and her ability to connect with everyone in the group, from age 15 to ??
But, a warning to anyone doing a tour of this length, and a suggestion to Viator and Askos: Please tell participants doing this tour in summer months that they should buy water before entering the park or should bring refillable bottles! Please tell them that there are no bathroom facilities! It was dangerously hot in mid-June, and posed serious threat of dehydration. There was no mention of water or water breaks or facilities…. We were a young crowd used to the heat and still struggled, but I was concerned for older patrons. Please prepare your customers!!
Pompeii is extremely large, you see only a small portion of it on tours. Our guide was very knowledgeable and great! Wear comfortable shoes, very uneven. Bring water bottle. What an amazing experience! Villa de Misteri is the newest find with lots of color and detail. Worth looking at.
Teresa was amazing and very knowledgable. She made sure we got to see almost everything. We learned so much and had a great time!
We went with a group of friends and our two kids, 10 & 7. My older daughter was interested in a lot of it but my 7 year old did not enjoy it. 3 hours in the June sun was rough to keep the whole group going. Very informative, interesting and one of a kind tour of you’re really into history! I’d recommend it for family and friends, but it’s a lot to get through with kids.
Very interesting tour with an archeologist working in Pompeii. She had tons of knowledge and information.
Wonderful guide. She was so knowledgeable and made our visit unforgettable.
The day we visited it was warm and all the shady spots were located and many stops for water.
Our guide was amazing! He was so informative and knowledgeable. We really got a lot out of our tour because of him.
We had a wonderful tour of Pompeii with our guide Theresa. She was very informative and took great care of our group as we wandered through the ancient streets. Her passion and knowledge of the subject clearly came through. I would highly recommend this tour.
Alessandra was excellent. Great presenter who shared many interesting details about the site. Tons to see and she showed us many highlights
