What will I see during the Shell Key Clear Kayak Glow in the Dark Tour?

Your guide will lead as we paddle through the waters of Shell Key Preserve looking for wildlife, taking in the stars, and lighting up the water beneath you! The tour takes place in the darkness, and there may be some surprise visits from wildlife.

What should I bring with me on the Shell Key Clear Kayak Glow in the Dark Tour?

We recommend bringing a reusable water bottle and a towel.

What should I wear for the Shell Key Clear Kayak Glow in the Dark Tour?

We recommend wearing long sleeves and/or long pants, with bug spray underneath your clothing to deter mosquitoes. Wear comfortable shoes that you don't mind getting wet.

Can I bring my child with me on the Shell Key Clear Kayak Glow in the Dark Tour?

This tour is reserved for ages 12 and up. We cannot accommodate children under 12 years old.

Can I participate in the Shell Key Clear Kayak Glow in the Dark Tour if I am not an experienced kayaker?

Our tours are made for any skill level to participate. We will have basic tips and tricks to help you maneuver the waterways. Some paddling may be considered intermediate but we try our best to paddle at a pace that is convenient for every paddler!

Will I be sharing a kayak during the Shell Key Clear Kayak Glow in the Dark Tour?

All of our kayaks are tandem (made for 2 paddlers). However, the seats are removable and if you have an odd number of paddlers in your party we are able to accommodate the kayak as a single.

Is there a weight limit to participate in the Shell Key Clear Kayak Glow in the Dark Tour?

Our weight limit is no more than 250 lbs per person and no more than 425 lbs per kayak. All of our kayaks are double kayaks. Keep in mind, the same 250 lb per person weight limit still applies even if taking a kayak as a single.

Is the Shell Key Clear Kayak Glow in the Dark Tour handicap accessible?

Due to the nature of kayaking, all guests must have upper-body mobility and the capacity to walk up and down steps to enter/exit kayaks.

We launch from Billy's Stone Crab Restaurant. Please park towards the back of Billy's parking lot and walk towards the restaurant entrance. Follow the restaurant entrance wooden ramp to the docks behind the restaurant, where you will meet your tour guide!

The view from Shelly Key Island was beautiful. Not seeing any sea life was disappointing and wearing clothes as stated in the "what is needed" was not good, it should say wear bathing suit since you will get wet.

Amazing experience! I’ve taken several kayaking tours over the years and this was by far my favorite!! At first I was a little nervous because it’s definitely a small company. We went on the guided night tour and it was nothing short of amazing! Our tour guide Matt was personable, knowledgeable and made sure we all had a great time. On our adventure, he helped point out a number of sea dwellers and many birds along the way. We were able to get out of our kayaks on the sand bar and paddled through the mangroves, which was my favorite part. Matt reminded us of the important connection we all share with nature and our tour was a great way to disconnect and reconnect to what's most important. We will definitely be doing this tour again!
