Tour guide ends tour, a half mile from the starting point in a drug infested dark area

Terri_S, Apr 2026
Our tour description noted it would end where it started. The tour guide even remarked such in his opening statement. But the guide notified all when the tour was about to end that we had 5 more minutes and we would be back to where we started (at a run down mall full of drug addicts and foul, unsafe public restrooms). The tour guide abruptly ended the tour behind an old house between a cemetery with two druggies acting spaced out feet away from us—- the worst thing was we were no where near our starting point! Surprisingly, we found our way back which was luck that we remembered landmarks. It was more than a half mile backtracking through the cut through between buildings and an alley! When I compare the itinerary online for this tour, the tour guide took us to half the landmarks and cut corners taking us between buildings and alleys while talking 50% of the time about contemporary history. The tour guide was a practiced actor with excellent oration skills and noted this was not his regular tour. It should also be noted for safety reasons that the starting point outside the rundown mall is unsafe for guests and 50% of the tour roads had broken street lights. We were lucky to make it back to our car safely and immediately drove out of the area. I would never recommend this tour to anyone.

Good Afternoon.

This is your tour guide from Saturday night April 4th 2026 at 8pm (My name is Jobian Day)
I am very sorry you had an unpleasant experience on our tour.

I want to thank you for highlighting some errors that were erroneously listed on your ticketing provider’s information. We do not always see what the customer does and are always working to ensure that our customers expectations are met- if not exceeded.

Also, I want to speak to very important statements made in this review regarding safety.

You were as every one of our customers is- 100% safe in our city and on our tour.

I wouldn’t put my guests or myself in any type of harm. Ever. I am always conscious of my guests, their comfort and safety in every location we travel on every tour.
Our tour always has ended where it did and still does. At the Salem Witch Trials Memorial and every tour ends with a clear statement of how to return to our starting point - which is approximately 950 steps or 5 minutes away.

All of these areas are also patrolled by Police and the wonderful Security Department of the Peabody Essex Museum. 24 hours a day 365 days a year.

For others who may read this, Salem’s vibrant Downtown District is almost 100% under real-time video observation by a staff of very dedicated competent professionals at the Salem Police Department. Speaking from the perspective of my 4 years and approximately 1300 performances for thousands of visitors from all over the world here at Wicked Awesome Tours- I want to apologize for your experience and hopefully clarify any misconceptions about what you observed our city to be- and know that we truly are committed to giving our guests a wonderful, once in a lifetime experience.
We listen to our customers and we will continue to work to earn your trust and business.

 Sincerely,

 Jobian Day Herron

Save your money

Tara_C, Mar 2026
I specifically canceled one tour and changed it to this because it said "Hocus Pocus" stops as yhats the main thing my daughter wanted to see. Guess what? Not one stop was from the movie, she didn't even talk about it, she was more excited about the witches on the side of police cars (who cares). We literally stood there in freezing cold temps while she told us to wait and watch a cop come down the street in slow traffic so we could see a witch painted on the door. It was actually kind of comical. I know I mentioned it was freezing but it was also horribly windy. She picked the most awful places to stand, sometimes randomly in between 2 buildings where the wind was whipping everyone. She stopped at one point (in between 2 random buildings) and spent 20 minutes telling a story about a bewitched slave (way too long and way to boring). She then proceeds to walk us down the street and she quickly points to an iron plaque fixed to a building and says something quickly as we walk past. I couldn't even here her NOR had time to even stop to see what it said or take a picture. So we were just told a 20 minute story by an ice cream shop but then we briskly walk past something that everyone seemed interested but didn't have time looking at. Another 20 minutes talking about the TV show "Bewitched" (once again, too long and nobody cares about what the locals thought about the filming of the show 50 plus years ago, especially younger people who have never heard of it). I would have rather heard more historical info about the super old sandwich shop we passed in a hurry. Once we made it to the cemetery, she proceeded to tell a long story of each one (there's quite a bit of them), once again, on top of a hill with wind blowing. We left after three in, couldn't take anymore, all we cared about was Bridget Bishop anyways. All in all, it was a complete disappointment, too long periods of standing in random, insignificant locations, tour guide very easily distracted (at one point she starts talking to a random couple about their dog), I didn't need to hear three times that she lived up the street, then point it out, and explain what she does for a living. We also didn't need a review on every restaurant we passed, ugh! We were staying in Boston for spring break and couldn't wait for our day trip to Salem but it was actually the worst part of our vacation. We ate at Turner's Seafood the minute we got there which has a really cool history and great food, however, I wish we would've saved the money on the tour and just googled places on our own, ESPECIALLY the hocus pocus stop we were supposed to see. I definitely would suggest another tour.

The tour locations were great, and Alina was very friendly. She was helpful getting us out of the rain. My only complaint is that there was a lot of advertising for other tours and activities, and I would’ve preferred spending that time talking about history. Otherwise, it was a very good experience.

Fun tour to get a quick rundown of Salem. Awesome (and tragic) to see where the hysteria unfolded. Allie really loves the town and that shows in her tours. Go to Turner Seafood for the lobster bisque after the tour!! So good! Thanks, Allie!
