We pick up in any Hotel in Reykjavík area, just keep in mind due to regulations some streets downtown Reykjavik are to small for superjeeps in those cases we use bus stops for pick up.

Itinerary

Your northern lights tour starts with pickup at your hotel in Reykjavik in the late evening for the drive outside the city. Meet up with other vehicles, and then start the search for the lights.

The route and stops you make depend on the weather and aurora forecast. Your driver takes you to places where you're most likely to see the lights, but of course this cannot be guaranteed due to the whims of Mother Nature. Efforts will be made to capture photos of you with the lights in the background, when possible.

Your tour ends with a return to Reykjavik.

Tour vehicles have been modified with 40- or 46-inch (1- or 1.2-meter) wheels that can handle the challenging terrain of Iceland all year. They are equipped with fold-down steps for easy accessibility, leather seats, air-conditioning, Wi-Fi, GPS, first-aid kit, trackwell, and other security equipment.

Please note: the tour operator reserves the right to cancel this tour at any time, depending on the weather and sky conditions. If the tour does operate but the Northern Lights aren't seen, you may try once again at no extra charge. If all nights are canceled due to weather conditions, you'll receive a refund. It is recommended that you book your tour for the first night you're in town so you can maximize your chances of sightings, in case you need to go another night. Group sizes get bigger if several nights in a row are canceled due to weather.

Super cool experience! Saw a beautiful aurora on the second attempt. Despite clear conditions on the first night, it didn’t appear when we were out there but viewing the night sky was an experience in itself. Being in the Superjeep felt like a night safari…hunting for the northern lights.

I was very disappointed with this experience. I booked a three-night trip to Iceland to celebrate my husband’s 40th birthday and, in advance, booked and paid in full for three tours during our stay, including this one. I deliberately scheduled the tour for our first night in case it needed to be cancelled due to adverse weather or other circumstances beyond our control. Unfortunately, we received a notification only four hours before the scheduled start time on the first night informing us that the tour would not operate due to bad weather. Although disappointed, I rescheduled the tour for our second night. However, on the afternoon of that day, we received a similar message advising that the tour was again cancelled due to poor weather conditions. When I attempted to reschedule for our third and final night, I was informed that the tour was fully booked and that no availability remained. I therefore initiated the refund process with the tour operator. I was surprised to receive a response stating that it had been noted that we wished to reschedule for the third night, but that the tour was fully booked for both our second and third nights and that efforts were being made to recruit additional vehicles and drivers. This raised concerns as to whether the cancellations were due to overbooking rather than weather conditions, which I feel would be unfair. Overall, this was a very disappointing outcome. This trip was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for us and potentially our only opportunity to see the Northern Lights, which we had been greatly looking forward to. On a positive note, I would like to acknowledge and thank the tour operator for processing the refund promptly.

I cannot say enough positive things about this experience. We thought it was going to get cancelled because it was raining in Reykjavik but it didn't. I was highly doubtful I would see any northern lights. WRONG! We drove outside of the city and went to several locations chasing the northern lights and we were very successful. The tour guides took pics of us with their camera and shared the photos. Before heading back to Reykjavik, we enjoyed hot cocoa under the stars. It was our tour guide, Thomas' first tour of this kind and he was phenomenal. The only downfall was my husband left his new hat in the jeep... so double check you have everything before exiting the vehicle.

This is the trip you have to do!!

The most amazing experience we’ve ever done! The jeep was booked as a surprise for my four children after our original tour operator cancelled hours before we were due to go. This company were happy to take our booking at the last minute and collect from a hotel that wasn’t listed. The moment the jeep pulled up our children were bouncing with excitement because it’s so impressive to see. It is even better to ride in! Off-roading under the northern lights; what’s not to love?! Our guide, Chrissy, was so friendly and patient. He went above and beyond to entertain our four young children, who were cold and tired whilst waiting to see the Northern Lights. We were so lucky to see the lights really quickly, but upon our return to our hotel, the lights presented more vividly and he rushed us back to the city outskirts to see them again in all their glory! The hot chocolates under the lights were a treat our children loved, but with the revelation of adding some vodka it was equally as enjoyed by us adults! The professional photos taken by the guide were high in number and quality; it meant we were lucky enough to have lots of photos as a family and as a couple too (a rarity when travelling as a family!). We could not have hoped for a better trip and it was worth every penny we spent on it! If there’s one trip you are going to splurge on, make sure it’s this one!!

My sis and I booked this experience and didn't really know what to expect. Wow...our eyes just about popped out our head as we waited outside our hotel off the main street. Suddenly all lights blazing this total machine heads our way. We felt like we were on one of those extreme weather hunter programmes. We headed out of town pulling into areas off road to have a look. Our driver was very informative and gave us 50/50 chance if we were going to be successful. Fair enough it's mother nature and nobody tells her what to do! We headed towards the Blue Lagoon area and just waited. Great view, sky was bit cloudy but absolutely brilliant. Then they started to appear in dribs and drabs then got stronger and more intense....amazing to see. Freezing cold but hot chocolate with icelandic vodka to warm us up...mmmm. We also had photos taken that could be downloaded later for us to keep and as many as we wanted to pose for. Photos show up the colours of course much more than the naked eye but what a great experience to see them in action and a great keepsake. Thank you we had a brilliant night and great memories made.

Truly Incredible!! This trip was well worth the money. We watched the huge buses roll up to our hotel but it was so freaking cool to see an off roading car pick us up. The guides were great about photos and getting the views. Fun surprise was the spiked hot chocolate at the end. 1000% recommend!!

Oh My how Do I start? This was a night to always remember! So Much Fun! Our Driver Christinn, Not sure if I'm spelling his name right. He was a Big Guy, could have been a Viking back in the day. Didnt have a lot to say but when he did was Funny and and he showed us GREAT TIME. Got picked up at the Hotel on time in a Monster SUV. There was several feet of snow on the ground. Chris took us OFFROADING back in the BOONIE'S. Blazing Trails At Night in Deep Snow! Thank God For GPS keeping us on the trails because you couldnt see the TRAILS! Chris DID Yoeman's Work and a Super Job. SOOOO! We get back in the Sticks and let Mother Nature put on her Show! OMG, She did not Disappoint! For 3 Hours We watched The Heavens Dance in the Universe . Changing Scenes and Colors it was Spectacular. When you didnt think the night could get better Chris gets out the Hot Chocolate and Vodka! Chris took a Zillion Photos and all was included with the tour. Super Jeep was recommended to me and I am SO Glad I took the Advise!

Average product for a premium price . Good driver looked hard to seek out the lights . Jeep was big , but a bit crowded… 1-3-3-3 configuration , so not all couples could sit together . Also original booking was for Hotel pick up , but at last minute we were requested to change to a bus stop location near the hotel “” as it would be easier for the driver “”That in itself would not be a problem , but the vehicle then arrived 35 minutes late …. So we were standing at a cold , crowded bus stop for around 45 minutes till driver turned up . Not good for the price we paid . Microphone not working on the night we went , so hard to hear the driver at the back of the vehicle . Overall disappointing . .

If I could give this more than 5 stars I would. Great from start to finish! We were lucky to see the northern lights but even without, the tour felt like a real adventure off roading in the snow in the dark! Great tour guides. Would recommend and when we come back to Iceland we will do it again!

The trip was spectacular. Our driver was persistent and never gave up on seeing the best northern lights possible. He was really committed to make sure we’d have the experience of our life; not just doing a job. We ended up staying until after 1 am and it was absolutely worth it because we had the best viewing at the end. My daughters loved the superjeep. Highly recommended!

I will start off by saying we did see the Northern lights on our trip, 3 times in fact in one night . That is the only positive thing I can say about this. Pick up was at 8 pm. We arrived at the pick up spot at 7:45. At 8:15 our guide called to ask where we were. He was at a different pick up spot. I had a confirmation email that morning about where to get picked up, no clue why driver went elsewhere. My biggest complaint is we were in the back row of the vehicle and anytime we wanted to get in or out we had to ask the person in front of us to get out so we could exit or enter. No door for the back row. As it was an extremely cold evening it would have been nice to go in and out at our leisure. There was also a generator,( we think that is what it was) that would make this god awful noise periodically, located behind the last row. The communication on this trip was awful. After sitting in one location for a couple of hours we were offered hot chocolate. This was nice but it was unclear we were not done for the night. We drove around another hour and a half with no bathroom access. Would have passed if known that was the case. We were so fortunate to see a great display of lights in the first 15 minutes the rest of the evening sitting in the very uncomfortable vehicle dragged on and on.

So everyone said not to go to Iceland JUST to see the Northern Lights for two reasons 1) You might not see them and 2) The country has SO much to offer other than just the lights. However, just like most people I'm sure, my family and I really really wanted to see them. We did not see them though, BUT we still has a great time on the tour. Our guide tried so hard and even stayed out later for us because the night got clearer in hopes he could show us the lights. Honestly, I was super impressed with the driver and how he managed on the roads at night and in the weather we had. I felt so safe and had a blast watching him drive. Even without seeing the lights, we had a great time, got to see some more of the country at night and they ever provided us with a midnight treat which was very much appreciated. I highly recommend taking a tour with Super Jeep.

This is a pricey tour but so so worth it! The super jeep is awesome and we had a lot of comments on it from others standing outside the hotel when we got dropped off! The jeep collected us on time, the tour guide was excellent (I'm so sorry I can't remember his name) he was helpful and funny. We met up with two other trucks in a couple of places to search for the lights. The jeep is able to venture into places that other types of transport wouldn't be able to. All the tour guides were very knowledgeable and very funny, it is a long wait to see if any lights appear but we were kept amused and could take breaks in the truck to get warm again. It is super cold. The highlight of this particular trip was realising just how good the combination of hot chocolate and vodka is! Unfortunately we didn't see the lights on this occasion but rebooking for free was super easy and we got copies of the professional photos that were taken for free too, the camera can catch far more of the lights than the naked eye. I would highly recommend this tour and company.

A little Heads up!

I booked this tour based on the description stating we would be in a jeep touring and chasing the northern lights. Upon arrival, much to my surprise the guide shows up with an extended excursion vehicle, while cool nonetheless, we were just hoping for a more intimate experience but instead had 9 others in our vehicle and met up with another that had another 10 people in it. We were put in the very back seat, roomy, but you cannot see anything outside the windows after a few minutes and fog sets in. Warning there is also an air compressor in the back that goes off frequently. If I were rating this experience just on our guide and effort to see the northern lights alone, I would give it a 5/5. The guide did have a mic so everyone could hear what he was saying. If you’re looking for an experience and chance to see the northern lights and not concerned with how many others may be in the group then I would recommend this tour!

This trip was amazing, it was very personal given we only had a family of 3 with us in our jeep. The guide was very knowledgeable on where to find the lights! Our first stop, we immediately were able to see the lights and they were breathtaking. However, this spot became very packed very fast with over 6 vehicles and lots of people. Our guide then took us to a more private area where only our vehicles could go, no buses! We got out in the middle of no where and was able to enjoy the lights with less people! They took pictures of us that were very clear under the lights and even gave us a treat to keep warm. Highly recommend this tour if you are looking for a more off-road intimate experience.

It was a small group so we had an intimate outing to view the lights which we were lucky to catch. I assume compared to other tours it will be in larger groups and would not be as enjoyable even if you did see the lights. They too had the professional cameras which helps in taking couple shots with the lights. The guides were funny and knowledgeable to catch the lights. We loved the jeep too! Highly recommended for the tour

I really want to thank Nick and the superjeep company for being so accommodating to work with. We brought our one year old son along with us and they really took care of us and made sure we had a memorable experience. Superjeep are able to go to locations other vehicles cannot and our tour guide was excellent. Learned so much about Iceland, northern lights and the culture. I have already recommended them to friends and family. Bonus, they took great photos of us. Such a once in a life time experience.

Saw the lights but still smell like a pig farm

Description was that our party of four would have our own vehicle; instead we were with six other passengers. Event lasted 4.5 hours, longer than billed. Unfortunately, our viewing spot was literally a pig farm and our clothing (of which we packed little) still smells like pig farm nearly 24 hours later. We saw some faint lights, so I suppose “worth it” but would not do it again if we knew the experience would be so and for that high price.
