Pick-up starts 30 minutes before the departure time. Be ready at 13:00, The pick-up process can take up to 30 minutes. Please note that pick-ups from hotels in main-central Reykjavik are not allowed in certain areas designated as no pick-up zones by the City . As a result, you need to walk to the nearest bus stop, typically a 2-5 minute walk from your hotel. To choose the appropriate bus stop: Search bus stops in Reykjavik Search the closest to your hotel & select the one nearest. If you don't know your pickup location please send us a message and we can help you.

What To Expect

Depart your Reykjavik hotel and travel to the buggy station on the city’s outskirts. On arrival, listen to a safety briefing, put on the supplied helmet, thermal coveralls, and gloves, and hop inside your comfortable, 2-seater buggy with your companion. Each buggy seats a driver and a passenger, and the price is based on two people per vehicle.

Once in your buggy, get instructions on driving, and when you and your passenger feel ready, clip on your safety buckles, and start out on your exhilarating 2-hour mountain tour.

Traveling behind your guide, head out along lowland trails through rocky lava fields, muddy pools and water and snow. Be prepared for a different challenge around each bend — there’s a wide variety of terrains to tackle. Then, put your foot on the gas pedal and steel your nerves as you start on a demanding ascent of Úlfarsfell Mountain.

Follow your guide up the mountainside, and thrill as you conquer the final ridge to arrive at the summit. Then, pull up to take in the spectacular views over Reykjavik, the North Atlantic Ocean and imperious Esja Mountain towering in the distance.

Next, descend the slopes and stop to admire the epic landscapes that surround Hafravatn Lake, all beautifully reflected in the mirror-glass waters.

After about two hours of exploring in your buggy, rumble back to base, feeling exhausted but elated. Your experience then concludes with a drop-off back at your Reykjavik hotel.

If you want a longer buggy adventure and to test your driving skills further, upgrade to the more challenging ‘extreme’ 3-hour ride.

Me and my girlfriend did three tours with SafariQuads and really couldn’t recommend them enough! Staff were so friendly and welcoming from the pick up to the drop off. The tours and routes were amazing and the views were breathtaking. Special mentions to Paula, Maria and Louis for their incredible jobs and for making us feel so comfortable. We had such an awesome few hours driving. We were lucky as it was only me and my wife and the guide so we had a bit more freedom. The buggies are very fast. We drove on lava sand. And got soaked going through massive puddles. We even stopped at a volcanic area which had the first natural spring/pool that humans used. Lewis/louis are guide was so cool and very friendly. 100% recommend doing this when you are in Iceland.

Fun and education all in one

We had so much fun on the backroad of the lava fields. The quick stop at the natural thermal field shows the temps from the volcanic heat. Drive pass the hydro plants you see how powerful the heat from the volcanos are. Fun afternoon. Guide was awesome.

Safe, bumpy & fast This was by far one of our favorite parts during our time here at Iceland. Lisa, our tour guide was a down to earth exciting person to have guided us in this buggy experience. I was terrified but she definitely assured any worries I had. I will preface with this, if you listen to the rules and listen to the guide the better the experience you will have and the faster the speeds you may go. We had some unfortunate poor souls who did not listen which affected our experience but Lisa did end up making it even more wonderful towards the end. You may think you are going too fast but you do need to just understand that these are made for off road so do not be afraid to let the vehicle do what it’s suppose to do. Overall this was amazing and we got to see the geothermal pipes and the lava field which hearing the history behind was also quite interesting. Especially since the guides see environmental differences almost on a daily basis. Would def do this again.

Fun trip but too focused on speed

Honestly, it was a fun trip. But the emphasis of the trip seems to be on speed. I heard a lot of people besides myself, saying they were just going really really fast. We were hoping to stop more to see the scenery and take it in. We did do one stop or we saw some steam vents and a boiling mud pit. But the focus was definitely on how fast we could get from one place to another, which really was not ideal.
