Itinerary

Begin your trip at your selected departure point, either at your Naples hotel or the Naples train station. Then, hit the streets for a coach tour of the vibrant southern city. Pass through the main square of Piazza del Plebiscito to see San Francesco di Paola church.

Explore the Royal Palace of Naples on foot, home to the Bourbon Kings in the 18th and 19th centuries. Then step inside the Naples Cathedral and hear the fascinating story behind the miracle of the blood, where a vial from the city's patron saint is brought out twice a year. Top off your city tour with a visit to the Posillipo quarter, gazing out at the Bay of Naples.

Hop back aboard your coach and relax on the brief ride along the coast toward Pompeii. Enjoy a break to purchase lunch before beginning your guided tour around the largest archaeological site in Europe.

See the Thermal Baths, the Forum, and the Lupanare brothel, all buried by volcanic ash, and learn more about how this ancient city was destroyed by the infamous Mt. Vesuvius eruption in AD 79.

After wandering the ruins with your guide, your tour concludes with transportation back to Naples.

Our guide Elisa was absolutely wonderful! She is very knowledgeable and super friendly. Pompeii is amazing and I want to spend more time exploring next time I come to Naples. My only “complaint” is the transportation. Finding our tour driver outside of port security was chaotic- there were 3 ships in port, thousands of people there looking for their drivers, and lots of drivers holding signs with several names listed. On our return, we were grouped with someone coming back to the port. Again, there was over a hundred people following a guide to the bus. The group ended splitting and we at the back of the line had no idea which group to follow.

With the exception of the cathedral, the city tour lacked places of real interest. The scenery was very nice, but nothing really stood out. That said, the tour of Pompeii was outstanding. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and shared a lot of interesting and historical facts. I could have spent more time there.

Would have been better to have a full day tour or just do pompeii , naples is lovely but we only realy drove around stopping at 2 view points then for half an hour in the centre for a coffee/toilet break , prob better to do naples on foot for a full day. And pompeii separately, which was stunning and so interesting the guide who was a little frosty towards us , realy knew her stuff at pompeii you could tell she was interested herself and was a fountain of knowledge on the subject and the history of it. Thoroughly enjoyed that part would have liked longer

The excursion was very insiteful and the guide was top notch. She informed us of many facts during the visit and physically pointing out symbols and carvings in the architecture. She even showed us what was original and what was updated and how to tell the difference between the two. I believe her name was Elise. Her pace was great not taking too much time but also not rushing.

It was very difficult to find the people handling this tour at the dock. We were sent from place to place and it really made us nervous! There needs to be more information about where to meet the people handling it. After we finally found them, everything went very smoothly. The stop in Naples would probably be better if we were not led to the restaurant that was recommended. The staff there was not helpful and actually rude. It could have been avoided if we had been told that we needed to pay for the items and have a ticket to get it at the counter. The Pompeii tour was wonderful. Our guide was very sweet and informative.

I would have rated this a 5, but the driver was late showing up, and I could not confirm with anyone they would show. They finally did, 7 minutes late. The rest of the tour was outstanding. Our guide, Elise(?), was the best we have ever had. Her guidance around the city and at Pompeii was superb. It was an excellent tour.

Naples/Pompei 1/2 Day Tour

Viator needs to require vendors to have “Viator” signs with the name of the tour so they can be found. We had a very hard time finding the tour people. When we got to the port dock we could not find them ??? The man picking us up finally walked up to pick us up at 8:05AM. We walked a few blocks and waited for the bus us to pick us up along the street. Then we drove for 10 minutes and waited 10 minutes to pick up the guide???? She said our tour started at 8:30 - paperwork says 8AM We signed up for 1/2 day tour in Naples/Pompeii - we left at 8:05AM - got back to the ship at 3:30PM- much longer than a half day in the heat. There was NO mention in the description of a 2 hour+ walk in Pompeii!!!! The description was inaccurate!! Too much walking in the heat ! 15 minute walk to the bus in Pompei to take us back to Naples.

The best part of the tour was our guide Elisa. She saved this tour from being a one star review. She was funny, nice, and seemed passionate about her job. She also had a great recommendation for a delicious hazelnut coffee. The people at the Cafe though were rude. It didn't make sense on how to order anything. Not because of a language barrier but because no one told you that there were three separate stations. One for drinks and two for food. The tour started off very poorly. Somehow my name got registered with two different companies: World Tours and Napoli tours. The guy from Napoli tours had my last name written with someone else's last name so that it looked like one complete name. He didn't speak any English so it was difficult to find out who we really should have gone with. The World Tours person wasn't any more helpful. All she said was we will get marked as a no show if we didn't go with them. The first smaller bus was nice. The drive around Napoli was good with some scenic stops. But the tour was supposed to include seeing the Naples Cathedral, including going inside. That didn't happen. We would have dressed more casual if it wasn't for seeing the Cathedral. The tour of Pompeii was good. But the tour ended poorly. There was confusion and chaos with a large group of people. The busses AC vents were broken as well. The only good thing is we did get back to the boat with plenty of time to spare.

This was a wonderful tour and Elisa was the best guide. I did try to contact the tour operator immediately when I got off the bus at the drop off to Hotel Partenope Relais I’m Naples but no one would ever answer nor did they answer my texts! Pompeii and guide were fabulous. Initial pickup a dock was poor and van over sold for space. Tour guide pnly talked with Spanish speaking in Naples.

We loved having Elisa as our guide! She is very knowledgeable about Naples and Pompeii history, has a great sense of humor, and she communicated thoroughly about the unique logistics of the tour (after the Naples portion, we combined with other groups in Pompeii, and then drove back to the Naples cruise port with a different group). She expertly navigated our large group around the very crowded Pompeii and made sure nobody was left behind. Additionally, we could see how caring Elisa is because she noticed that a cat she regularly sees at Pompeii was ailing, and flagged down a staff member to get it help. Just be aware that we were dropped off at the cruise port about 1.5 hours later than we expected (based on the duration posted on the Viator listing).

Underwhelming Tour. Logistical Problems

I’ll start with the positives: Pompeii was great and we enjoyed the guide a lot. However, we didn’t go to any of the Naples spots mentioned in the itinerary. Also, the Naples part of the trip included Spanish translation (we were led to believe it was an English only tour). We spent about 90 mins longer than planned in Naples because we were picking up other groups for the different tours (some were Pompeii only) this resulted in us arriving back at the cruise terminal nearly 2 hours later than originally planned. Be very cautious choosing this tour if you’re cruising and have deadlines.
