Pompeii is an amazing adventure for the able-bodied. It is a little frightening for the slower and less sure-footed. The preserved and excavated city bogles the mind of the modern observer. Our Tour Guide, Biagio spoke English very well but had a little trouble with certain pronunciations. His pace gave ample time for everyone to stay together and almost enough time to explore between stops. A tour well worth the effort.

It was pretty seamless traveling. The tour guide in Pompeii was amazing. The WorldTour guide was on FaceTime with her mom, leaving us standing in the blistering sun for 15+ minutes. Kind of ridiculous; lots of standing around.

The Pompei tour was excellent. The audio on the bus needs to be reworked cause we couldn’t hear what the guide was telling us. It would’ve been nice if we could’ve been picked up at our hotel area we were dropped off at the port coming back.

The tour guide at Pompeii was awesome, so knowledgeable and helpful. The tour around Pompeii was amazing and extremely informative. She deserved every praise going. However, the coach driver and ‘tour guide’ from World Tours were only worthy of a two star rating. They had little interest in the group they were leading, and the driver was quite scary with his inattentive attitude to the roads and traffic following. They seemed more concerned with personal issues than any interaction with their tour group.

First off, I want to be clear: Pompeii is a MUST DO ACTIVITY! If you thought the Roman ruins were impressive, imagine walking through an actual city frozen in time! Fast food, brothels, frescos, the town square...you feel like you're right in the middle of it. DON'T MISS IT!
With that, this particular tour was a bit underwhelming and disappointing.
Everything started off nicely. The original tour guide and bus driver (I'm so sorry, I forgot all their names!) were wonderful, telling us some great details about what we were going to see while we took a very comfortable bus ride over.
Where it got disappointing was the handoff. I took another Pompeii tour last year with my girlfriend (this current one was with my mom for her birthday), and THAT guide was so sweet and enthusiastic. She interacted with everyone and got everyone excited.
This tour guide, however, honestly felt like she was going through the motions to get everything done. Yes, she was kind, but she was always ahead of the group, reciting off the details like it was a script she was bored of.
What sealed the deal for me to write this review, though, is the end. The Pompeii tour I did last year was two hours (I'm pretty sure that's the standard), with about 15 mins after to use the bathroom and grab ice cream at the cafe. And one of the BEST parts at the end was the Antiquarium di Pompei and all the artifacts.
This tour also said it would take about two hours (again, standard), but suddenly after an hour and a half, I realized we were at the main gates with no Antiquarium stop. When I asked another guide about it, he said that it was up there, and the guide should have pointed it out, but since we were outside already, we'd either have 45 mins free time at the barebones cafe or have to pay another 20 euros each to get back in and see it.
Again, I know tours have different elements to them, but I'm pretty sure all Pompeii tours are pretty similar across the board. And it truly felt like this guide just wanted the tour to be done, so she rushed through, finished early, dropped us at the cafe, and split. (Really though...for 2h15m at the grounds, 45 mins of it was sitting and waiting for the bus at the cafe? We could sit at a cafe in Naples when we got back to the city.) We were here to see everything Pompeii. At least MENTION the Antiquarium so people could take a look if they wanted to and not miss something so awesome.
So yeah, I'm really sorry to say this, but wonderful book ends with the driver and main guide, and I'm sure other tours guides are great, but our actual guide at Pompeii really put a damper on the time.

Dear Mike, thank you for your kind words about our driver and tour leader. We are thrilled that your mother enjoyed her birthday visit to Pompeii. We are sorry you felt the pace was rushed; our guides follow specific routes to ensure the main highlights are covered within the site's regulations. Regarding the Antiquarium, we usually conclude the tour near the main exits to facilitate the group's departure, but we appreciate your feedback and will ensure our guides better highlight its location for those wishing to explore it independently. We hope to welcome you back for an even better experience. Best regards

Our tour guide was amazing. funny, knowledgeable and understanding of the needs of our group.
It was not clear where to be picked up as our ship docked in a different port that we were told. It took extra time to find our driver.
Marie_G, May 2026
Really good communication before trip advising where to meet. Guides were exceptional both in knowledge, enthusiasm and dealing one in particular difficult person (always one). Dealing with her with respect and not taking away from the trip. Group size perfect 10 out of 10.
Thank you.

Francisco was very helpful and organized.
Trip was very enjoyable, I had a great time.
Guide Anna at Pompei made it very interesting.
Andy_M, May 2026
Tomas was knowledgeable and humerous and is a great guide. The ruins themselves are well worth visiting.
Wellington_L, Apr 2026
Great tour! Just the right amount of time to keep things interesting. Our guide Tomaso kept us captivated with history. Blending dry humor with facts. Well done.
Brenda_L, Apr 2026
The tour did not start out very well. We were not able to find our tour guide and during communications with via tour. They kept telling us that they were at the cruise port, but they weren’t finally someone in our group was able to connect with the actual tour operator and he was a mile away at a different cruise port couldn’t come and get us so we had to walk there. Fortunately, they did wait for us. It took us nearly an hour to get to Pompeii once we got to Pompeii. The tour guide was wonderful took us back still would not take us to our cruise port. Come to find out he thought we were at a different port, even though we gave him the name of our ship when it was coming in and so it was just very confusing and very frustrating

A fascinating trip to Pompeii. Paola was our guide on the bus and informed us of the history and what to expect on the way to Pompeii. She kept everything moving and well organised.
The tour of the site was fascinating. Really important to have a guide to explain what you are seeing. We could easily have spent more time exploring.
Lisa_C, Apr 2026
Paola and Leo are very knowledgeable and kept us all captivated with all the specifics of Pompeii. About 20 in the group and we broke into an English speaking tour and an Italian. The smaller group feels more personal and you are able to converse with Leo as you walk which was very pleasant. Wear sneakers as there is a lot of stone dust, slippery marble, and uneven rock surfaces.
Isabelle_P, Apr 2026
Small group of approx 15 people made it ideal to near the guide and hear him.
An excellent guide who was thorough, personable and very aware of safety on uneven surfaces.
Tom_H, Apr 2026
I’d been to Naples several times in the past but never went to Pompei. I’m SO glad we did. The place is HUGE. You get an archeological guide who takes you street by street, house by house and explains what happened.
Sherry_O, Apr 2026
Super easy to find the driver. Excellent your guide at Pompeii.
Quick drive. Would definitely use them again.
Joshua_B, Apr 2026

Rosa was absolutely amazing!! She communicated amazingly and made this trip so easy! I have done lots of traveling but this was my first solo travel experience and she made it so easy and I felt so safe! She just did an absolute incredible job. Antonio was also great! All the staff was super friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and just fun. I would highly recommend this!

As others have pointed out, calling this a small group tour is marketing and a bit exaggerated considering the group size. However we enjoyed the tour very much and everything was seamlessly organized. Ilaria who met us at the cruise port for pick up was warm and friendly and accommodating to our family with two little kids. Ana was our guide at the site and did a fantastic job of sharing her knowledge and guiding us. Would recommend!

Good small group tour. Knowledgeable tour guide, good sense of humor, excellent background. Meet up ok.
Ieuan_R, Mar 2026
The guide taking is too and from Pompeii from Naples was amazing and provided several engaging facts about the local area, food and history. We really enjoyed the journey too and from Pompeii.
While we enjoyed Pompeii itself we found the "archaeologist" to be quite poor. She spent a lot of time stumbling over words or trying to find the right thing to say which may not have been an issue on a longer tour but on a short 2 hour tour quickly eats into the amount of information given.
The guide also gave a lot of information about the political history of Europe in the time that Pompeii was rediscovered which had no real bearing on the tour itself and felt like more lost time.
She also gave incorrect information about the volcanology of the eruption, she stated that Pompeii was buried by a falling ash cloud yet modern study suggests that the major cause of the burying was a series of pyroclastic surges.
Also we spent a lot of time exploring smaller lesser known areas, we spent a good 10-15 minutes in the entrance at the Quadiporticus and then quite some time walking some of the smaller streets but then by the time we got to the Forum we were given a 1-2 minute explanation of the buildings aroudn the Forum from the centre and then she continued walking out of the the other side to end the tour with no time for us to explore the Forum area!
Would happily be taken to Pompeii and back by this company but would likely just get an audio tour or do Pompeii ourselves next time as it felt like we being held back from fully exploring the site.

Thank you for sharing such a detailed review.
We’re really pleased to hear that you enjoyed the journey to and from Pompeii and appreciated the insights provided by your tour leader along the way. At the same time, we’re genuinely sorry that the guided visit inside the site did not meet your expectations.
We’re glad you would consider traveling with us again, and we would be happy to welcome you back for an improved experience that fully reflects the quality we strive to deliver.

Great tour of Pompeii, but guides change frequently. Unlike Viking, there is no narration to and from ship to Pompeii and vice versa. Guides were fine, especially guide that led in through Pompeii. Tour began and ended at a cameo shop which housed the rest rooms.
Mary_A, Mar 2026
Absolutely fabulous. The communication from the tour company was great, Marco was funny and kept us entertained on the mini bus to Pompeii. Had a little bit of wait for our guide but did a bit of shopping and had gelato (yum). Anna our tour guide was informative and funny. Walking around Pompeii, listening to the history and the preservation work being done was amazing. Best tour in Italy I have had.
Megan_P, Feb 2026
Everything went smoothly. Tour guide of Pompei ruins was great. We had a group of 9 - not too big not too small
Kate_G, Feb 2026
