Disappointing

All information from Viator gave the incorrect meeting point which led to some confusion and meant we nearly missed the trip ! It was not really a tour, unlike other tours. It was essentially just a bus ride there and back. There was no archeological guide at Vesuvius which was mentioned in the tour description.

It includes round-trip transportation, approximately 2 hours of free time on Vesuvius, and—most importantly—the guaranteed entrance ticket, which can often be difficult to find, especially on busy days. We take care of securing the tickets for all our guests so that they can enjoy the visit without worries. OH my gosh ... I don't know where to start! First of all our driver went over and above to pick us up and get us situated into the park. The hike was unbelievable. One of our favorite activities while we were on our cruise. Hiking to the top of Mount Vesuvius was a once in the lifetime events. The weather was a little cold and windy ... but clear. We could see everything from on top. THANK YOU for making it such a great event!

Excellent driver! On time, right where they said he would be. Drive us to the end of the road halfway up Vesuvius, and the rest was our hike. Breathtaking. He picked us up on time and took us back to the meeting point. Highly recommend!

Poor meet up and overpriced

The meet up was poorly described. We thought we were meeting a Guide and not a bus. If I had not texted, we Would have missed the whole tour. I think the price was high. Better To just take a cab to Vesuvius.

The trip was excellent. Had fantastic views from Mt. Vesuvius. The bus from the pickup spot left exactly on time. It took less than an hour to get to Mt. Vesuvius. We were given about two hours on the mountain which was more than enough time to get up for some tremendous views. There are guides that can provide a lot of interesting information. The bus back to Vesuvius left right on time and we were back in Naples before 1:30. A fantastic morning.

Getting there was a bit chaotic, we had to sit 90 minutes in bus picking up people. A lot of them ended up standing which was unacceptable. We were told we would be picked up at 9.30 and be back at 12.30 , we didn’t arrive until 11.45 after being picked up at 9.30 . Transport company needs a shake up

When I boarded the bus near the Central bus station, Ciro told me my ticket was only for the bus. illenia sent two of the same vouchers for bus transportation only. I messaged back the company and was referenced again the bus transportation voucher. I asked again, stating it was only for bus transportation. Finally I got the voucher for admission to the Mount Vesuvius. I would like to commend Ciro for bringing this my attention. Otherwise this fatal error would have ruined the day. There would have been no communication once I got there to fix the problem. A staff member was nice enough to give me a ride up to where the guide starts the mini tour. The guide was thorough about the mountain and the eruptions. It was about 15 minutes to the end to walk which affords very scenic views of the Bay of Naples. On the way back Ciro was gracious to let me get off in the city center. I would like to thank him again for saving the day.

Magnificent Vesuvious, but horrible tour service.

1. The tour organizer changed the pick up time at the Hotel Naples from 12:45pm as indicated at the time of booking to 12:15pm for no particular reason. 2. Pick up point was changed from the hotel to a place which was about a mile away and we had to rent a cab to be there at the requested time of 12:55pm for a 1pm pickup. 3. The bus was about 20 minutes late. When we had requested if the bus could wait 5 minutes so we can leave our luggage at the hotel and board, the answer was a firm NO because the bus cannot wait for anyone as it followed schedule to a T. Well, as we found out later, it was hardly the case. 4. There was no guide provided at all. 5. The bus driver dropped us off at a different location than the pick up, which was 11km away. We had to go to the Vesuvios Tour office to explain the situation and request a ride back. Although they were kind enough to drive us back and i must state that the tour organizer, Ilenia, was very prompt in responding and offering to help, they dropped us off at the pick up point instead of dropping us at the hotel as a courtesy for the blunder they had committed. 5. Overall a very bad and horrible experience. Gave 2 stars for prompt communication and quick resolution.

We were on a cruise with limited time to explore. I booked this experience because the pickup was prearranged and the ticket for Vesuvius was included. Our driver messaged us the day before with the pickup time and location and the tickets. (Download or print the tickets before getting to the entrance due to lack of connection). He arrived on time and we went to pick up 6 others in the group. With everyone on board, we headed to the mountain. The views on the drive-up are amazing, then they keep getting more impressive. You get dropped off at the entrance. Again, have the tickets downloaded or printed. Once in, you start to climb. It seems daunting and can be, but take breaks and you'll get to the top. Great experience! (Please don't be like one reviewer who was expecting an active volcano. Lava is the last thing you want to see when at the top of Vesuvius!) There are toilets at the entrance and places to buy refreshments at the entrance and top. After our descent, we met our driver at the predetermined place and time. We were driven back to the cruise port without any problems. My wife and I were very pleased with this experience.

Great tour, but needs better solutions for delays

Our tour had a rocky start with the driver being over 1.5 hours late to our pickup spot due to confusion of other clients. The communication with the office/organization was incredibly frustrating because we constantly had to ask for updates; the office never kept us informed of delays unless we asked. Once we were on the road, however, Giuseppe (our driver) was very friendly and chatty despite the language barrier! We got to explore Pompeii on our own for a couple hours, then he brought us up to the starting trail of Vesuvius. The sites of both locations were beautiful! We asked Giuseppe if he could drop us off at our hostel instead of the pickup point, as it was far out of our way and we were much later getting back due to the morning delay. He was 100% willing and we had a fun drive back laughing as we used google translate and maps to direct him to our destination. The tour itself was great, thanks to Giuseppe, however we could not BELIEVE how long the wait was in the morning. I don't understand why other clients being incredibly late get to affect the rest of the group, who were waiting forever, in the heat, on-time. Feedback would be to find a better solution so that it doesn't affect the rest of the group, as the delay caused our future plans needing to be changed to accommodate the late clients.

This was a great way to get from Naples to Vesuvius and back! Personalized pickup locations, small group, better than a tour bus full of people! The driver communicated well and was even willing to drop us off at the port instead of the original meeting spot so we would be on time to get back on our cruise ship! He gave us 2 hours on the mountain which was perfect!

The time in the park was fantastic. Getting the bus there was a little confusing but it all worked out. It was five hours total, not four. We did not get a guide at the park - that would gave taken more time. Sone background abput the history on the bus would have helped.

Driver was excellent. Directions to the pickup point we're good. I had a great deal of difficulty acquiring the ticket online. The automated help service was very helpful but the staff telephone service phone person was rude and hung up on me. Nevertheless I got my tickets and then enjoyed the experience.

Terrible tour service.

After taking a train from Rome to Naples for this tour only, we were picked up by the driver. After about 20 minutes in the van headed to the volcano, the tour service calls the driver to say that they did not have tickets for us. We tried to purchase tickets at the park entrance, but were unsuccessful. The tour service only gave us a half refund even though we did not get to complete the only item on the tour. Viator should drop this tour service. Our driver stated that mix-ups like this were not uncommon with this tour service.

The top of the mountain...

The top of the mountain was beautiful. Our driver was wonderful and he brought us up to the entrance gate , we saw many people walking up the road from lower area I’m glad we didn’t have to do that. It was a little cold and very windy, we forgot our coats but they sell sweatshirts by entrance. Overall great trip I think it’s a little pricey but we enjoyed the experience.

When we actually got to Vesuvius it was a wonderful experience but the trip to get there was awful the pick up caffe had the same name as two others so we had a job to find it then the bus was half an hour late we started on our journey then we got dropped off with two others and had to wait for about 15 mins on the roadside for a smaller bus we got in that eventually then had to change buses again just up the road we finally got there it was fabulous to see but I didn’t realise there were no toilets any where so was a bit uncomfortable by the time the late bus finally took us home well worth a trip but needed more organisation we have used this company a few times before and always had a great time

Great experience, they drive you up a majority of the way and then you have like 3 hours on your own to hike, there are shops along the way where you can stop and get a drink food or souvenirs. You hike about 2 miles total round trip, it is uphill the entire time.

Excellent driver, great value and fantastic service. Left at Vesuvius to make it to the top at your own pace and you can pick up a free guide at the top if you want so no need to book on a more expensive tour with private guide. One word of warning if you only book the 1/2 day Vesuvius trip, there may be others on your trip that are going to Pompeii afterwards so this adds an extra 30mins on your trip as they get dropped off at Pompeii before you get dropped off back at Naples. This was not a problem for us and we were back at our drop off point in Naples just after 1pm but it may be something to consider if running a tight schedule. All in all this was a great tour and I would reccomend highly.

A very interesting site to visit. Disappointed that tour indicated we would have a guide ( and included in fee) however no guide provided. Time cut short by one hour so fairly rushed visit. Was advised due to participants arriving late tour shortened, however left at 9.30 as advertised and arrived back at 12.30 for a 4 hour tour

Very poor value for money. Was taken to the crater and that's it. Didn't see a volcano. Would not recommend. However the driver was very nice and timely. PS there are no toilets around.

It was very well organized. Bruno took us from the meeting point. Unfortunately we were forced to wait for two ladies that delayed the beginning of the trip. However the weather was nice and we enjoyed the hike to Vesuvius very much. There was no guide waiting for our group at the crater. At the end we took a break with amazing wine that was cultivated in lava and a huge group stopped next to us and we heard interesting facts from their guide about Vesuvius. We recorded the trip as the group is not large and you are not forced to be together all the time. You can enjoy the views and experience by yourselves. My recommendation is not to the travel agency it is to the people that are booking the trip. Please be on time! Respect others time and what they are paying for! No one is going to wait for you forever, because you cannot calculate your time properly! :)

Weather was overcast. We go to entrance only to be told park was closed. Driver had no idea and tour operator should have made driver aware. Wasted 2 hours which was unfortunate and only reimbursed for entrance fee to park vs tour which not fair

The Vesuvius is a must go when in Naples and region. The alpine guide in the summit is an expert about the volcano, but you don’t have a long time to be at there (like 2 hours, including the time that you spent to go up and down)

This is worst run tour I have ever had the unfortunate experience of partaking in with Viator. Sparing the unnecessary details, it is very poorly organized and my best advice is to never book this tour. We never even saw Mt. Vesuvius. It would be a complete waste of your money.
