Great perspective on downtown Los Angeles that touched on socio economic issues, politics, architecture and Hollywood glamour. We learned a ton!
Response from Host, Apr 2026
Thank you, Kimberly. That mix — socio-economics, politics, architecture, Hollywood — is exactly the tour I set out to build. Glad it landed.
Carlos_P, Mar 2026
My friends and I went to Los Angeles for the day. We had a super fun time on the tour!! The tour guide was fun, friendly and really knowledgeable about the tour. He made our experience so much better!!
Response from Host, Mar 2026
Thank you Carlos so much for joining with your friends. Thank you also for inviting me for some drinks after. Our meaningful conversation shifted my perception on many things. I will remember that moment for a while.
Gina_Q, Mar 2026
Informative walking tour of downtown Los Angeles to visit the great movie theaters of the Hollywood era. Mark introduced us to the history behind the growth of a farming town that developed into one of the largest cities in the US. Fun stop at The Last Bookstore with a massive collection of new and used books, The Bradbury building with beautiful iron works of the early 1900s and a repurposed theater brought back to its glory by Apple.
Response from Host, Mar 2026
Thank you, Gina, for this thoughtful review. I’m really glad you enjoyed discovering Downtown LA’s movie-palace history and the city’s bigger transformation story. It was a pleasure exploring spots like the Bradbury and The Last Bookstore with you. Hope to see you again for another walk through LA’s hidden layers.
Anna_V, Mar 2026
One of the best walking tours we’ve done! Mark is an excellent guide who explains the history of Downtown Los Angeles in a way that is easy to understand and really engaging. The mix of film history, architecture, and city stories makes the whole area come alive. If you want to understand DTLA beyond the surface, this tour is perfect.
Response from Host, Mar 2026
Thank you, Anna — I really appreciate your kind words. I’m glad the mix of film history, architecture, and city context resonated with you. Downtown LA is easy to pass through without seeing its deeper story, so it means a lot that the tour helped bring it to life. Thanks again for joining.
Simona_Z, Feb 2026
Tour was pretty good. Would have liked a bit more architecture information as tour was more abt film industry impact on LA. But overall an enjoyable experience.
Response from Host, Mar 2026
Thank you for joining the tour and for your thoughtful feedback.
I would like to clarify something for future readers. At some point before February 2026, the product description on Viator was edited by the platform and introduced wording suggesting an “architectural focus.” This wording unfortunately created the impression that the tour is a dedicated architecture lecture.
In reality, the experience explores Downtown Los Angeles through history, film culture, architecture, and urban transformation, with architecture being one element of the broader story.
I appreciate your feedback and I’m glad you enjoyed the experience overall.
Stephen_S, Feb 2026
Very informative……… Mark (not his real name) 😂 was a great guide , being from Los Angeles it was fascinating to learn things about our city that we didn’t know. Thanks for a fun day !
Response from Host, Feb 2026
Thank you! I’m glad you discovered new layers of your own city — that’s always the best compliment. Downtown LA keeps revealing itself, even to locals. See you again on another walk.
Timothy_B, Feb 2026
It's a tour about general and movie history as well as current happenings in LA with a little about the historic buildings. Definitely not an architecture tour.
Response from Host, Mar 2026
Thank you for sharing your feedback.
I would like to clarify for future travelers that the description of the tour was modified by the platform prior to February 2026 and temporarily emphasized an “architectural focus.” This wording did not accurately reflect the broader scope of the experience and has created some confusion for guests expecting a purely architectural tour.
The tour explores Downtown Los Angeles through history, film industry influence, architecture, and urban development, rather than as a technical architecture lecture.
I appreciate the opportunity to clarify this for future visitors.

Great guide, unique insights into various out-of-order or re-purposed theaters, an answer to evey question!
Response from Host, Jan 2026
Thank you, Jan. Downtown LA’s reused and reimagined theaters tell some of the city’s most interesting stories, so I’m glad those insights resonated with you. I appreciate your questions and your time on the tour.
Maria_N, Jan 2026
Fun tour of downtown. I have lived in CA more than 20 years, but did not know the history and sites that we visited. Marc is a great guide, and the historical photos and maps he brought along, added to the experience. Highly recommend!
Response from Host, Jan 2026
Thank you, Maria. I’m glad the tour revealed layers of Downtown LA that often remain hidden, even after many years in California. Using historical photos and maps is a way to reconnect today’s streets with what once stood there. I truly appreciate the recommendation and your time exploring the city with me.
Susan_S, Jan 2026
Guide was fun, intetesting, educated on what we were seeing. He engaged with us well and learned from locals in the group adding to his information.
Response from Host, Jan 2026
Thank you, Susan. I’m glad you enjoyed the exchange and the mix of past, present, and future perspectives. Conversations with locals always enrich the walk, and I appreciate you being part of that shared exploration of Downtown LA.
julianne_s, Dec 2025
It was hard to understand our guide, and there wasn’t much architecture covered in the tour. Also, it seemed overpriced for the value.
Response from Host, Mar 2026
Thank you for sharing your feedback, Julianne. I’m sorry it was sometimes difficult to hear me — Downtown can be very noisy and I try to avoid using a microphone because it often adds even more noise to the streets. I will continue working on projecting more clearly.
I would also like to clarify something for future readers. At some point, the product description on Viator was edited by the platform and introduced wording suggesting an “architectural focus.” This unfortunately created the impression that the tour is a dedicated architecture lecture.
In reality, the experience explores Downtown Los Angeles through history, film culture, and urban transformation, with architecture being one element of a broader story about how the city developed.
I appreciate your feedback and will continue refining the experience.

Thank you, Thalia! I’m really glad the mix of history, humor, and deeper insights resonated with you. LA opens up in surprising ways once you start connecting those stories — happy it sparked your curiosity.
Jill_M, Nov 2025
Mark is a personable and knowledgeable tour guide. His mix of film history and architecture was spot on for our interests. We would never have seen all of these hidden gems on our own. Thank you for making our last afternoon in California so memorable.
Response from Host, Dec 2025
Thank you, Thalia! I’m really glad the mix of history, humor, and deeper insights resonated with you. LA opens up in surprising ways once you start connecting those stories — happy it sparked your curiosity.
Ina_C, Nov 2025
The history and architecture of Los Angeles was the highlight of the tour. The guide gave a presentation from the beginning of US to the birth of film.
Response from Host, Nov 2025
Thank you, Ina! I’m glad the journey from early American history to the birth of film resonated with you — those roots explain so much of what LA became. It was a pleasure sharing those stories with you.

An excellent tour! Our guide had really done his research thoroughly. We loved learning interesting and obscure facts about the city and the buildings that we visited. We got to discuss thoughtful and intuitive insights and connections from our guide about how LA grew, morphed and changed into what it is now. We felt very comfortable asking questions and being allowed to pursue subjects of interest for more discussion. We had a wonderful time and highly recommend this tour!
Response from Host, Oct 2025
Thank you, Mary! I really appreciate your thoughtful words — it’s wonderful to hear you enjoyed diving into LA’s layers and how the city evolved. I love when guests bring their curiosity and questions; those moments of discussion make every tour unique. I’m glad you felt comfortable exploring ideas along the way, and I hope our paths cross again for more conversations about this ever-changing city.
Brian_B, Jul 2025
Eloi crushed it. Seriously one of the best walking tours I’ve been on. He gave a highly informative birds-eye view of LA history at every stop. It made the landmarks hit way harder. You actually get what you’re looking at.
And the hidden spots? No shot I would’ve found those on my own. Dude knows the city so well. Felt like I got the behind-the-scenes version of downtown LA.
Highly recommend. Worth every step.
Response from Host, Aug 2025
Thank you, Brian! I’m so glad you enjoyed the mix of history, hidden spots, and behind-the-scenes stories. Downtown LA has so many layers, and it’s always rewarding to see guests connect with them. I hope you’ll be back to discover even more!
Kathy_G, Jul 2025

Thank you, Kathy! I’m glad you enjoyed learning about downtown’s history. It’s always a pleasure to share these stories and landmarks with curious guests.
Tiffani_P, Jun 2025
A lot of walking but it helped us see so many parts of the city! Marc was a knowledgeable and kind guide. We had one adult, a 14 year old, and a 9 year old. It was better suited for adults but Marc went out of his way to make the kids feel included.
Response from Host, Jun 2025
Thank you, Tiffani! It was a real pleasure having you and your family on the tour. I know the content leans more adult, so I’m especially glad the kids felt included — that means a lot to me. And yes, there’s definitely some walking involved, but I’m happy it gave you a chance to really see the city! Thanks again for the kind words.
Geraldine_P, Jun 2025
This was a fun and informative tour of downtown LA where we visited various hidden gems including repurposed buildings with surprise elements. The tour guide was knowledgeable and funny and shared many interesting stories of the success and demise of DTLA as well as some fun facts along the way.
Response from Host, Jun 2025
Thank you so much, Geraldine! I’m especially honored by your words knowing you’re in the urban design and planning world — that’s exactly the kind of audience I hope to connect with. I’m glad you enjoyed the mix of hidden gems, history, and a few laughs along the way. DTLA has such a layered story, and it was a pleasure sharing it with you. Hope to see you on another tour soon!
Marcela_Z, May 2025
This was an amazing experience! Our tour guide, Eloi Mark, was friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the areas of Los Angeles that he showed us. It was a lot of walking but well worth it because we were able to see the inside of buildings and areas that you wouldn't be able to see on a shuttle bus tour or a hop on/hop off bus. When he showed us a new building or area, he gave us historical context by showing us pictures from the past on his iPad that allowed us to appreciate the past and compare it to the present. He would then point out often missed details and how they fit in a historical context, which was absolutely fascinating, even for people like us who have lived in the Los Angeles area for decades. I recommend him highly with TWO thumbs up and as many stars as I can give him! (5 stars)
Response from Host, May 2025
Wow—thank you so much for the two thumbs up and all the stars! It means a lot coming from longtime Angelenos. I’m thrilled the tour gave you a fresh perspective on places you’ve passed for years. Sharing those hidden details and stories is my favorite part of the experience. I hope to see you again soon for another deep dive into LA’s rich and layered history!
Julie_H, Apr 2025
Downtown Los Angeles is fascinating, many films were set in local buildings, the area was clean, safe, pleasant. I enjoyed all Marc’s inside information and saw an entirely different side of the city.
Response from Host, Apr 2025
Thank you so much Julie! I’m glad you enjoyed discovering this lesser-known side of Downtown LA. It means a lot to hear you felt safe and curious—it’s exactly what I hope the tour inspires. Come walk with us again anytime!
Rayne_M, Dec 2024
A very interesting tour where we learned a lot about the city! It needs some work though, it was a little difficult to hear the tour guide sometimes and the walk was very long with no breaks to sit down/rest, go to the bathroom, or take pictures. But it was overall very good and interesting!
Response from Host, Dec 2024
Thank you for your input! I will take more time for my next guest. Great idea!
Peter_B, Nov 2024

Ben_A, Sep 2024
I thoroughly enjoyed Eloi’s tour - he has a love for LA and a critical eye at the same time, making for a much more engaging tour than someone just rattling off facts about historical sites. He’s interested in the contradictions and the story-behind-the-story in Downtown L.A.’s architecture, and it was a lot of fun talking through these ideas together. This was easily the best walking tour I’ve taken in the U.S. and one of the better I’ve taken anywhere.
Response from Host, Oct 2024
Thank you Ben so much for this amazing review!
John_T, Sep 2024
Eloi has a passionate and contagious interest in describing several hard-to-find architectural gems - especially several beautiful and historical interior spaces. I had no idea DTLA had such a vibrant past.
Response from Host, Sep 2024
Thank you John! It was a pleasure to have you as guest!
THIERRY_M, Dec 2024
