George, our tour guide, has a funny personality and knows every restaurant in the city! Do not eat prior to going on the tour, it's a lot of food. We started at a wine bar with 4 different wines and appetizers. Received an overview of the Hungarian wine region and a map. Then went to course two. Best goulash soup in the city!!!!! It was amazing. The wine paired was good too. Then to the main course. More delicious wine and a full seize entree serving of food. The menu to choose from had a large variety! The next stop was at a ruin bar for a digestive. George explained the history and concept of the ruin bars and the Jewish area. Then we went for dessert and coffee at one of the best cafe's in town. Desserts were delicious. Would recommend this tour and would book the same tour again. Our tour guide also knew about other eateries and venues and gave some great recommendations.

Fun time

maryann_m, Jun 2025
Our guide was excellent. She knew her history, but didn’t inundate us with it. She understood we were there to have some fun and get some knowledge. We started at a wine shop. The young man who educated us on the history of Hungarian wine really knew his subject.. Enjoyed the red wine in particular and the charcuterie tray. Truly enjoyed the other stops on this tour, especially the last one for dessert.

Wonderful progressive 5 course dinner and informative historic walk with an excellent guide .

Tour began with informative wine tastings and hors d’œuvres, then a stroll around historic Pest learning the significance of many buildings with stops for snacks and drinks. Then a delicious meal at a non-touristy restaurant. After another walk we ended at a traditional cafe for typical Hungarian pastries.

Fun and Delicious Evening

Excellent tour. Our guide was Angela. She was very knowledgeable about the food and wines we tried. And, she provided lots of history of the area. Our group had 6 people, so it was very manageable. The food highlight was the ghoulash soup, very tasty and warming. We visited about 5 different restaurants and bars.

Excellent intro to Hungarian wine, food, and history!

Wonderful experience. Wine tasting, appetizers, and history of Hungarian wines at their shop and then walking tour with food and wine stops in the Palace district with a dinner stop and then a dessert/coffee stop. Fantastic!

Original food and friendliness. Had a little too much history of city. Guide was very friendly. He knew his way about town.

Response from Host, Sep 2021

Thanks so much for joining the tour! Glad to hear you enjoyed the food and your guide. On all of our tours we aim to introduce visitors to the history and culture of Hungarian cuisine, and also the city as we go from place to place. I'm sorry that you felt the balance was off, but glad it was still a good experience for you.

One of the best Viator culinary tours I have experienced!

lahoov, Sep 2019
Andrea was one of the best Viator tour guides. We stopped at 6 different locations for food, beverage, and an historical perspective. More food and wine than imaginable.

Outstanding Experience

Steve G, Dec 2018
One of our favorite foodie tours, and we've had many! Lila (sp?) was our tour guide and she was excellent! Do not eat before the tour as you'll have plenty of food! Like a progressive dinner, we experienced wine tasting in a bistro, then on to several courses at different restaurants and even a popular local bar. It was a wonderful evening shared with a great tour guide and another American from Florida. Highly recommended in one of our favorite European cities!

We were so fortunate to have George...

Jean B, May 2018
We were so fortunate to have George born in China of hungarian parents in the foreign reserve: He was a blast, great sense of humor extremely knowledgeable of the area. Great advice on food and wine: He took us everywhere and patiently waited for my 83 year old mother and husband with back problems to walk everywhere as he entertained us with stories of Hungary and the food and culture. Please do this. Its so fun. He is really a nice man and hell make you laugh as you enjoy the sights, tastes and sounds of Budapest! Jean
