Get some light exercise climbing the steps up to the Royal Palace, set in the Buda Castle District. As you pass the old-world charm of Holy Trinity, and Disz Square, you also have the chance to see sites slightly off the beaten path.
Continuing on through the cobblestone streets, stop at the beautiful Matthias Church, named after King Matthias, and also known as The Church of Mary. Enjoy priority admission and a guided tour inside the church to learn more.
Your guide ends your tour with a glimpse of the seven towers. Head to the lookout point of Fisherman’s Bastion, which boasts one of the best views of the city. Take a picture from the top as you spot Margaret Island, Parliament, and the beautiful waters of the Danube below. After admiring the panoramic view, you have the option of traveling back to your original departure point with your guide or continuing to explore the area on your own.

A great guide, who had a lot of knowledge and was answering all our questions in a friendly and patient way.
Despite bad whether, we enjoyed the tour and learned a lot.
Hopefully we can repeat the tour with better visibility

I booked the tour on line for Buda Castle and when we arrived no one from viator was there and the workers at the facility said it was a scam and the tour only costs a few euros and we were charged $137.00. It was a long walk there up hill - very disappointing.

Dear Lori,
Dear Fellow-Travelers,
Lori's case is typical of our times. She is not the first and the only one for whom the role of Online Travel Agencies is not clear. To whom goes the one-star, is secondary in this case, because she is not even aware that Viator does not operate any tours. It is a marketplace for suppliers and buyers.
We, Absolute Tours, have been present on Viator since almost the first day and have sold thousands of tours with 5-star review. Our tours always operate, and if - for an unexpected case - we cannot deliver our service, we reach out to the customer.
Lori and her partner did not show up. There was a group of 7 other people waiting for them at the meeting point. The guide waited an extra 10 minutes - with respect to every circumstance, this is the maximum we can allow for late arrivals. We could not reach them over the phone, either.
This tour - as stands in its name - includes an admission to the Matthias Church and NOT to the Buda Castle. The Buda Castle is the neighborhood with many attractions in its area. The entrance fee to the Matthias Church ONLY is obviously less, than a 2-hour guided walk with the visit.
Please read the tour descriptions carefully and if something is not clear, feel free to get in touch with the provider!
Sincerely,
Judit / Absolute Tours

This was a fantastic tour! Petra was a wonderful guide—informative, entertaining, and personable with everyone on the tour. She brought the history of Buda Castle to life in an engaging way and made the walk both educational and fun. I would definitely take this tour again and highly recommend it to others visiting Budapest.

Monika gave us a brilliant, knowledgeable tour of the Matthias Church and its surrounds explaining its historical relevance and restoration. We then walked through to the Buda Palace where she again covered the various incarnations of Buda, all the way from the original pre medieval settlement, through the various empires and occupations, to its present EU membership. Our time in Budapest was limited and this tour was certainly worthwhile, especially being guided by someone who grew up in Buda and had local knowledge of its history and personal experience of many of the changes that have occurred. Thank you Monika.

Our tour guide was Andrea and she was knowledgeable, had helpfull suggestion for other sights too see in the city. She took us to the different parts of castle for the best light at that ri.e of day to look at the building, church, grounds and the city views. It was a wonderful derful experience and we also learned a lot about the cities history.👍

Petra was an amazing guide. Very knowledgeable and punctual. She taught me a lot about Budapest history. I would recommend this tour to all.
sunil_b, Jul 2024
This is useless and waste 100 dollar tour. You just go around and see houses around the main attraction. I will not recommend anyone
Response from Host, Aug 2024
Dear Sunil,
First of all, thank you for taking the tour which in its name describes the opposite of your statement and complaint - that we would just go around houses. This tour includes a visit to the Matthias Church and yes, in the rest of the tour travelers explore the residential area and the palace quarter in the Buda Castle district. Usually city explorations are about going around and see the buildings, hear relevant stories and learn about the history and present of the visited area.
We believe that we delivered what we promised in the tour description. It is understandable that city walking tours are not for everybody, but according to previous and further tour reviews you can see that our guests are more than satisfied with our tour itineraries, not to mention our guides' performance.
We remain sincerely Yours,
Absolute Tours

Our guide was very knowledgeable and engaging. We highly recommend this tour. It was one of the highlights of our trip
Dagmar_C, Jun 2024
Our guide was very knowledgable. My husband had his foot in a boot and she accommodated the tour so he could be included and sit down whereever possible. There were only four of us on the tour and that was great. She also helped us at the end of the tour to find our way to our next destination.
A very informative and fun tour.

I enjoyed the Buda Castle district tour with Andi. She was very knowledgeable of the history and engaging during the tour. As she mentioned to us, Buda Castle is about the views of the city and she showed us all of them. Definitely recommended if you don’t mind doing a bit of walking around the area!
DAPHNE_R, Apr 2024
We were very happy with this tour. Esther covered everything in the Buda Castle area one could hope to see. The tour flowed seamlessly from place to place and was well thought out and she presented great information and details. She was also gracious and kind enough to help us with figuring out transportation on the way home.

Anna was an expert on her subject
Highly recommended!

Amazing tour. Greg was a great guide. He was very knowledgeable and gave us pieces of information that may not be easily found through a simple Google Search query. Loved this tour. Would recommend.
Hannah_R, Mar 2024
My husband and I were lucky enough to have Greg, our tour guide, all to ourselves for our tour of Buda Castle district. Greg grew up in the area and knows it very well. He showed us sites we would have NEVER seen without his knowledge, and he clearly loves his city. We could have spent many more hours with him, learning about Budapest, Hungarian history, and current events. He was also happy to tailor the tour to what we were interested in. If (hopefully when) we return to Budapest, I hope we can have another tour with him.
KATHRYN_W, Dec 2023
Our guide Eszter was very knowledgeable and thoughtful for our group’s needs as the weather was atrocious. The church was beautiful inside
Kari_B, Nov 2023
This was a really interesting tour. Our guide was great and very knowledgeable. The church was beautiful, and it was a great experience!
Steve_F, Nov 2023
Great info, Church exploration was excellent!! Our guide was very informative. Loved the views from castle.
Joni_S, Oct 2023
I was the only tourist so I was impressed that I was still given the tour. We did not go into the church not sure why. That’s was the 4 star only. But it was an excellent tour.
Robert_L, Sep 2023
Balint is an excellent guide. He added the context and symbolism of the places, monuments and historical figures in the Buda Castle District we would have otherwise missed. My wife and I left having a much better understanding of Hungary’s complex history. Balint took the time to answer questions and displayed a depth of knowledge that showed him an expert. We are extremely glad we took this tour and would recommend to anyone looking to see the history behind the beauty of Buda.
Neville_F, Aug 2023
Our tour guide Greg was very knowledgeable, but also had a good sense of humour and added a lot of personal insights on the history behind the castle, and the country. Can’t praise him enough, and would recommend him to anyone visiting Budapest. Thanks for a great experience.
