Itinerary

Book your preferred tour option and meet your guide near the Royal Palace (Buda Castle). Then, explore this charming cobbled district, first settled in the 1200s and home to Hungary’s royal court from the 1300s.

See medieval ruins and baroque and Gothic buildings, and admire the National Széchényi Library and Royal Palace as you chart the golden age following the court’s arrival.

Hear about the Ottoman and Habsburg eras, and how Buda attracted a melting pot of nationalities, including a significant Jewish population. View the old street and synagogue site that were hubs of the Jewish community, and see hidden gardens, courtyards, palaces, and statues that speak of Buda’s past yet are often missed by visitors.

Stroll around the restored neo-Renaissance Várkert Bazaar by the Danube, and absorb the stellar city and river panoramas from the Fisherman’s Bastion and other viewpoints.

Break for a coffee, and view the interior and multi-colored tiled roof of Matthias Church, the coronation site of many Hungarian kings. Visit a WWII bunker and hear about the Siege of Budapest, when Russian and German forces fought in the streets here in 1945, causing huge devastation.

After three hours, your tour finishes in central Buda.
