We had a great time, touring Chinatown and eating some delicious food as a small group of friends. Without our guide, we would have missed most of what we learned since many of the things she pointed out were not at all obvious to us. We did the tour over lunch, which was really great since we didn’t have to plan a separate meal. We loved it!

    Chinatown

    JoAnne_M, May 2026
The tour was as much about local lore and history as it was the food. The food was good but not stellar. Our guide, Cynthia, obviously loves San Francisco! She was very pleasant and a good storyteller. My favorite stop, and the most informative, was the tea shop. May was fantastic teaching about, preparing and serving tea. A good tour to be introduced to Chinatown.

    Response from Host, May 2026

Thank you for taking the time to leave such thoughtful feedback and for joining our Chinatown tour. I really appreciate your honesty about the food, and I’m genuinely sorry that some of it did not stand out more to you. As a small local family-owned business, I take comments like that very seriously because we truly want the food on our tours to feel exceptional, memorable, and worthy of the time guests spend with us in San Francisco. We put a great deal of thought and care into every stop and work hard to partner with places that we feel represent the culture and history of Chinatown well, so I take feedback like yours very seriously. If you would be open to it, I would really appreciate learning more about which food items did not meet your expectations. Hearing directly from guests is one of the main ways we improve and continue making changes. Please feel free to contact me anytime at tmedin@sffoodtour.com, 415-665-0480, or through Viator. I’m very happy to hear that Cynthia made such a positive impression. She truly loves San Francisco, and I think guests can feel how much she enjoys sharing the stories, history, and personality of Chinatown. I’m also so glad you enjoyed the tea tasting with May. That experience means a lot to us because it gives guests a chance to slow down and experience a side of Chinatown that many people would otherwise never discover on their own. Thank you again for spending part of your time in San Francisco with us. It truly means a great deal to our family business.

Loved the tour. Learned so much about Chinatown and felt like I knew more about what I wanted to do here with extra time. Food we had on the tour was great. Brian was a funny and knowledgeable tour guide.

Thank you so much for joining us and for taking the time to post this. I’m really happy to hear that you enjoyed learning more about Chinatown and that the tour helped you feel more comfortable exploring the neighborhood on your own afterward. That’s something we really hope for on our tours — not just enjoying the food during the experience, but leaving feeling connected to the area and excited to keep exploring. I’m also very glad to hear you enjoyed the food and that Brian made the experience fun and informative. He truly loves sharing the history and stories of Chinatown, and I’ll be sure to pass your kind words along to him. As a small local family-owned business, reviews like this truly mean a lot to us. We really appreciate you spending part of your time in San Francisco with us and hope to see you again on another tour in the future.

Just under 3 hours of the best tour in Chinatown! Our guide Cynthia was excellent, providing insight into the history of this community through stories, sights, food, and culture. This was the perfect tour while exploring San Francisco’s famous Chinatown.

    Response from Host, May 2026

Thank you so much for this—it really means a lot to me. I love how you described it as a “lunch and learn,” because that’s exactly what we’re hoping it feels like. There’s so much in Chinatown that you’d never notice on your own, and it makes me really happy to hear that your guide was able to bring those details to life for you. It also means a lot that you joined us as a group of friends and made it part of your day together. That’s such a big part of why I started this—creating an experience where people can just relax, enjoy great food, and discover things they otherwise would have walked right past. And I’m really glad the timing worked out so well for you too. Not having to think about lunch and just enjoying it along the way is exactly how it should feel. Thank you again for taking the time to share this. It truly means a lot to a small, family-owned business like ours.

    Great way to see Chinatown!

This was great! Our guide Scott was very knowledgeable and obviously passionate about San Francisco and its history. The food was enjoyable but the experience and information was superlative. Would definitely book another one of his tours!

He truly cares about Chinatown and San Francisco, and that passion you picked up on is exactly what we hope comes through on every tour. I’ll make sure he sees your note—it’ll mean a lot to him. I also really appreciate you mentioning the experience and information. We always want it to feel like more than just food stops—that you’re really getting to understand the neighborhood, the history, and the people behind it. And hearing that you’d come back and join another tour honestly means a lot to me. As a small, family-owned business, that kind of trust is everything. Thank you again for joining us—it really does mean a lot.

    Great Chinatown history tour

    Adam_E, Oct 2025
This was more a history and culture tour than a foodie tour. Our guide, Scott, was a wealth of information and was able to weave history and pop culture together in a single tour. Scott was exceptional at keeping our attention and involving us in the questions and answers. I would say that some of the food stops had great food (e.g. "Scott's noodles" - these are off-menu, the Vital Tea Leaf Shop) whereas the rest was just okay. I would definitely recommend you go for the history, but if you're only interested in food, I might forgo a tour and find places on your own.

    Response from Host, Oct 2025

From BBQ pork buns, sui mai, and rice cakes to shrimp dumplings and more from Chinatown’s favorite restaurants — you’ll savor dim sum like onion pancakes, Shanghai dumplings, potstickers, sesame balls, Peking duck, and a full tea tasting. While many guests join us for the rich history and culture, most also mention how much they enjoy the variety and amount of food — and we truly try to make both parts of the experience memorable. I really appreciate you highlighting “Scott’s noodles” and the Vital Tea Leaf Shop — those are definitely guest favorites. That said, I’m genuinely sorry to hear that some of the other food stops didn’t stand out for you. I take that seriously and will be sharing your feedback with our team so we can keep improving. It also means a lot that you’d still recommend the tour for the history — Scott really pours his heart into each experience, and I’m glad you felt that. As a small, family-owned business here in San Francisco, we care deeply about each guest and every single tour. If you’re open to it, I’d love to connect directly to learn more about your experience and how we can do better. You can call me anytime at 415‑810‑5062, email me at tmedin@localtastesofthecitytours.com, or message us through Viator — whatever is easiest for you. I truly value your thoughts, and it would mean a lot to hear from you.

This was more of a history tour than a food tour, but I really enjoyed it. Food was good but learning the history was fantastic.

    Response from Host, Oct 2025

From handmade dim sum and fresh BBQ pork buns to savory Peking duck, bakery treats, a full tea tasting — and even more food throughout the tour — there’s plenty to enjoy along the way, and most guests finish feeling completely full and satisfied. Thank you so much for joining us and for sharing your feedback! While we love sharing the rich history of Chinatown, I’m glad to hear that part resonated with you as well. If you’re ever back in San Francisco, I’d love to welcome you again — perhaps on our Chinatown & North Beach / Little Italy Combination Tour, which features even more food alongside the history!

Chinatown experience including food and tea

    Harry_D, Sept 2025
Andre was a GREAT tour guide. We kept a quick steady pace, that allowed us to see so many things and try food and teas. His knowledge of the area was outstanding and his concern to make sure everyone was enjoying themselves ensured everyone got what they hoped for on the trip.

    Response from Host, Sept 2025

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! I’m delighted to hear how much you enjoyed your time with Andre. He has such a gift for combining a steady, comfortable pace with plenty of chances to see and taste so many wonderful things along the way. It means a lot to know his knowledge and genuine care helped make the tour everything you hoped for. We’re honored you joined us, and we’d love to welcome you back anytime for another adventure!

    SF China Town

Andre was so knowledgeable. We have been to SF China Town many times but he pointed out statues and murals that we hadn’t noticed before. The food selection was delicious.

    Response from Host, Sept 2025

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! I’m so glad you enjoyed your time with Andre. He really has a gift for helping guests see details in Chinatown that even frequent visitors may miss, like those statues and murals that hold so much history. It means a lot to us that you found the food selection delicious as well—we want every stop to feel like a discovery. We’d be honored to welcome you back the next time you’re in San Francisco!

Wonderful blend of food, culture and history!

Walking tour of Chinatown from famous gate to multiple locations including oldest dim sum restaurant, fortune cookie factory and tea service presentation. Our guide Andre was friendly and informative. Our experience was enhanced by seeing a festival during our tour but all was smooth and fun. Very hilly so be aware if this may pose a challenge.

    Response from Host, Sept 2025

Thank you so much for joining us and for sharing your experience. I’m glad to hear that Andre made the tour friendly and informative, and that catching the festival along the way added something special. You’re right that Chinatown has some hills, and I appreciate you pointing that out. We always do our best to design the route so it’s easy for anyone to enjoy, keeping the pace relaxed and the walks between food stops manageable. Our goal is for every guest to feel comfortable while savoring the food, history, and energy of the neighborhood. As a local family-owned company, we feel truly honored each time someone chooses to spend their day with us. Thank you again, and we’d love to welcome you back on another tour whenever you’re in San Francisco.

Great food and history tour. Ryan was knowledgeable, funny and personable. Great variety of food to sample. The tea shop visit was fantastic. Walking was doable, only one hill to climb for a block or so. Plenty of time to recover if needed. Highly recommend this tour.

    Touring San Francisco

Best foodie/ history tour we were ever on! Scott, a SF resident, took us to his favorite places for Peking duck, tea tasting, dim sum and more. And these were all friends of his. We learned so much. A shout out to Viator for a great experience.

    Response from Host, Sept 2025

Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful feedback! Scott is indeed a longtime San Francisco local, and it means a lot to hear that his passion for the city and his friendships with the people at our stops came through so strongly on your tour. Peking duck, tea tasting, dim sum, and all the stories in between — those are some of our favorite highlights too. We’re a small, family-owned local business, so it’s especially meaningful when guests like you take the time to let us know you had such a memorable experience. I’ll make sure Scott sees your kind words — he’ll be thrilled. We hope to welcome you back again the next time you’re in San Francisco!
