After descending from the dome, admire Michelangelo's Pietà, Bernini's Baldacchino, and the final resting places of St Peter and other popes. Using a digital map and 27 designated listening points, the audio tour will lead you on a journey through the basilica's key highlights. Explore the detailed mosaics that grace the interior walls.

This isn’t a tour. It’s payment for express entry only.
Also you need a “maybe” selection in your review options.

This was poorly organised, it turned out to be a download app with some audio on interesting points, the meet location knew nothing about our tickets, just a QR code to scan for the app. We had to pay again to visit the Basilica Dome. We tried to contact the tour operator on the day, no response. Not a great tour operator experience. It’s actual free to enter the church so all I got for my £50 was a bit of audio info that I could get on the day, don’t bother we this operator

Dont book this with these people . The lady at the meeting point is rude and the person that takes you to the gate is just trying to get you tgeee and be done as fast as he can . There was no clear instructions from our guide and we never received our dome tickets so we didn’t even get to go up the dome . The actual tour agency is VOx and they are terrible . St. Peter’s is great but this tour agency is terrible .
Michelle_C, Jun 2026
Disappointed, I paid extra for elevator access to get up to the dome at St. Peter's Basilica but my tickets received did not give us access and we had to climb the stairs. Reached out to the tour company but have had radio silence from Vox City since the tour is over. Won't book again.

St Peters is truely amazing and well worth a visit in person. We didn't understand initially that this was a self guided tour with a audio app, so bring your own headphones. Also the Dome QR code didn't seem to work at first, but we persisted, and then got to go up. Again, the Dome just blows you away to well worth it.
The other advantage of the self guided audio is that it is self-paced and you can go into a much detail as you like.
Cindy_J, Jun 2026
Own your on at your pace. The tickets needed to be picked up unfortunately instead of being provided online which would have been smoother transition from Vatican to St. Peter’s.
brian_o, May 2026
Our guide helped us get into the square, showing us where to go and explaining how the process worked.
Adam_S, May 2026
Friendly "guides" - they just bring you in, they don't guide you in the Basilica but that is clear in the description. You get a free Americano or juice for kids from the cafe you meet at.
Carlos_O, May 2026
The tour was self-guided, as the organizer told us to meet early, said we had to wait in line, and then left us stranded. After waiting in line for about 40 minutes to enter the Basilica, we were left to fend for ourselves. We had tickets to the dome via elevator, but we were NEVER able to use them because we didn't have the tickets the guide should have given us at our meeting before entering. I found the person who attended us disrespectful and rude; she couldn't wait to finish with everyone and leave. She was rude to several people who wanted to ask questions or had doubts.
SEAN, May 2026
Tour was advertised as audio but we were not told we would need our own headset to be able to fully appreciate the audio.
The host at the meeting point was rude and short when we tried to talk to her, this was the case with everyone who spoke to her.
Once we were with our guide she only escorted us to the gates then left us to our own devices.
I would recommend you advise people to bring a headset and look to retrain your hosts on how to communicate with the general public.

The tour was very well organized.
The Viator folks were really nice and prompt
Our guide was super nice. I did not get his name but he was a student at the university.
Anna_A, May 2026
This particular Tour is obviously self guided but it doesn’t guarantee you skip the line access and we still ended up waiting for two and a bit hours to actually get into the elevator to go to the top so if you’re travelling with children I would strongly recommend investing in some kind of skip the line access because it was very taxing. Also bear in mind that we were meeting the Tour Guide at 8:45 in the morning and that was still Mate.
Roni_H, May 2026
St. Peter's Basilica is beautiful, but the additional cost of purchasing tickets through a third party wasn't worth it. It was self-guided. Save yourself the money and buy direct if you want to see it.
PerChristian_O, Apr 2026
Ques for this ticket was waaay too long.
We didnt reach the elevator until almost 2 hours after the time on the ticket.
Jennifer_C, Apr 2026
We have a reservation at 7:30am for the Papal audience visit and Dome entrance. However, the Papal isn’t around so the audience visit is cancelled, but the Dome entrance is still confirmed. We arrived to our meeting point at 7:20am as per the conversation we had from VOX, but no one showed up. We waited for 45 mins because the VOX contact says the staff well be there soon, like 5 minutes late. We waited again but no one arrived. We ended up going to the basilica and came back at 1:15pm for the Dome entrance. The Dome entrance cost only €15 (with elevator) & €10 (w/out elevator). And the cost of this tour is not worth it of paying. You can do it yourself, just come early in the morning and the line up is short.
HanN_H, Apr 2026
First, I could not access my tickets to the St. Peter’s Basliica and dome tour, which I had to text multiple times to get assistance.
Then when I asked to change my tour time to later in the day, which was offered to me, no one responded after more multiple texts and calls. No one answers and now I am out the tickets I purchased.
It was very unprofessional that not a single person at the local tour group would have the decency to provide a reply.
Michael_K, Apr 2026
The tour guide was unbelievably knowledgeable and such a nice person.
The tour wasn’t to long or to short, and considering the amount of other people there we didn’t seem rushed or pressured. I would highly recommend this tour with this company.
Chris_S, Apr 2026
Terrible tour. All they did was walk us in and put us in a 1 hour long line.
Was supposed to be audio tour. Horrible communication. They just gave a QR code which was the audio tour. We didn't know we had to bring our own earphones.
Waste of money and not as advertised.

We arrived at the meeting point coffee shop. There were four people in line to use the toilet and the tour guide left without waiting. We got out of line and rushed to catch up. The Vatican is very crowded place and she was walking so fast that many of the elderly people could not keep up. Basically she took us to the security line where they check your bags and electronics. Then she walked us up the steps to where you get in line to see the dome. I think it would be just easier to do it yourself. There are toilets along the way that you can use at your leisure and you would save money by not buying this tour. Tickets to see the dumb cost $10 if you are walking up the steps and 15 euros if you were taking the elevator. Just my two cents. I just felt that there was no consideration for the people in the group and no value added.
Dympna_L, Oct 2025
This tour offer no perks whatsoever. We ended up in a queue for 2.5hours before getting up to the dome.
We were placed in the same queue as people that had no tickets, you would really expect the tour operator to have the tickets pre purchased, in an effort to speed things up.

Good morning,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're truly sorry for the inconvenience you experienced.
Unfortunately, in high season and during the Jubilee year, waiting times can be up to 150 minutes and security checks are mandatory for everyone to enter Vatican City.
This does not depend on us, but on the Police.
We always try to do our best to ensure good experiences.
Many thanks,
VoxCity

Dome ticket was so worth it.
Tour guide was not very clear on the process.
Bring headphones, no where in the instructions does it mention it.
Response from Host, Nov 2025
Good morning,
We are sorry if the experience did not fully meet your expectations.
We always strive to provide clear information both at the meeting point and during the tour.
This information is also included on the audio guide flyers, where you can find all the service details via a QR code.
We will also work on making our information on the vouchers clearer, especially regarding the headphones.
We therefore thank you for your valuable feedback.
Best regards,
VoxCity

The dome is 5 stars. The tickets 2 stars.
You are in a HUGE group. The line is long, the wait is long and you spend twice the money for the same thing that you would buy directly. The sudio guide was ok but you need your own device and headphones so listen to Rick Steves or another for free. If you don't plan ahead and it's your only option, it will get you in, but there are likely better options.

I have just received a request to review the experience which did not even start yet. We arrived 15mins before the planned start. The first queue was for a sticker and a free bottle of water. Then you wait for the whole group to meet. After that you queue for a security check. Then you wait for the rest of the 100+ group to go through the security. The next waiting is inside next to toilets. After we waited outside to find out our 142 USD tickets cost 80 EUR with less waiting. I cannot write anything about the experience itself since it did not start yet. Still waiting………

Was given directions to meeting point. Put details into Google Maps and it took me to a place approx 50 metres from meeting point. Tried calling as noticed no one else arriving and just an automated message with no answer phone. Sent a message through the APP and was ignored here also.
As a result, missed the event which wasn’t cheap, probably well over face value and didn’t get to see the Basilica as arranged. Queues were too long to try and go myself.
Really dissatisfied with service from VOX.

It is a rip off. They charge double the money for exactly the same you can do yourself. It was the same que everywhere. The same time needed. Nothing extra. The waste of money. Avoid it as it is big cheating

Was 1 1/2 time i line / queue
Has expected we had booked ticked for jumping over queue.
The audioguide was not working. Have to look at a map could not mark on the map to be sure you was informed about the correct statue. Diffucilt to explain.

This tour group got you to the dome and in the elevator so that there were no problems. Took the elevator and then climbed the stairs to the top! Warning once you start the stairs there’s no turning around. Fantastic view! So worth it! St Peter’s was great but very crowded! I would highly recommend this tour group and tour.
