This was our first day in Japan and we didn't really know what to expect. It was cold and rainy, and even though this was a tour to Mt Fuji, we didn't actually get to see it due to the fog and weather. We spent most of the day in the car. We did ask to go see a temple, and managed a boat ride on the lake. With no other experience, we thought that our guide was just a driver to drop us off places, and it was a little confusing to have to figure out what we were supposed to go and do. We DID have other Viator experiences after this first day and learned that most of the guides walk with you to the places you are touring and help with the process and point out things of interest. So looking back, this day was dissapointing as we were dropped off and picked up with not a lot of interaction. The guide was nice, but was more of a driver than a guide. We probably could have gotten a taxi or taking a bus for a lot less money.

We would also like to clarify that your booking was for an English-speaking driver, not a licensed tour guide. The service includes transportation and basic assistance, but not a fully guided experience where the driver accompanies you at each stop. We understand this may have caused some confusion, especially when compared to your later tours.
That said, we’re glad to hear the driver was kind and that you were still able to enjoy some parts of the day, such as the temple visit and lake cruise.

Best not to do it on the weekend as wait times at Hakone Ropeway were over 1 hour each way

It’s started on a wrong foot right away , 0800 is the pick up time in my hotel lobby, around 5 minutes later Driver said he’s coming in 5 minutes , 5 minutes later , driver texted if I can meet him on front of train station on the other side of the building crossing a busy streets, finally saw him but I have to be in a hurry because I have to get inside the car on a busy no stopping streets ( hope u can imagine that right next to Shibuya crossing )I got in no explanation or anything just an attitude saying , he got a wrong directions, the argument between me and the driver lasted few minutes until my son said enough, The van is clean BUT there is a distinct body odor coming from somewhere ( the driver is not JAPANESE) at side of the van there were 2 car fresheners, I have to literally shake and spray to make it more bearable inside the van, we proceeded with our trip, me and the driver connected and we are talking , he seems like a nice person , he said the station 5 is closed due to some reasons , we got a few good photos of Mt Fuji, he showed to 2 different spots and it was nice but unfortunately I have to cut the trip short around 1200 I asked the driver to return back to my hotel, I cannot stand the smell ( I’m really sorry I tried to bear with it )that’s all I can say

Regarding the pick-up, kindly note that in Japan, vehicles are not allowed to stop freely in certain areas—especially busy zones like Shibuya. This is to comply with strict traffic regulations, which is why pick-ups may sometimes require a short walk to a designated safe stopping point. We sincerely ask for your understanding on this matter.
We also apologize for the 5-minute delay at the start of your tour. The driver made efforts to compensate for this by adjusting the schedule and ensuring a smooth drop-off at 7:05 PM.
In terms of our drivers, we work with a diverse team across Japan. While not all are Japanese, all are capable of communicating in English and Japanese to assist guests with directions, restaurants, and tickets.
That said, we are very sorry to hear about the discomfort caused by the vehicle condition. This is not acceptable, and we are taking your feedback seriously and addressing this internally.

We were picked up on time by Alam, our driver, in an extremely luxurious vehicle with more than enough space for all our luggage. He had to drive us from Tokyo to Mt Fuji, which he did well - we commented on his safe and relaxing driving. This was not a tour, so he didn’t say much, but this was expected as it was simply for transportation. He did take us to the sites we needed to see and was always waiting for us when we had finished looking around in our own time. All in all, we were more than satisfied.

The driver prince was really good but the trip was ok. I feel the advertising on Viator is a bit misleading. It lists station 5 and a bunch of other places. A tourist does not know that it is impossible to visit a lot of them in 10 hours as the drive back and forth is itself about 5 hours from Tokyo so we could only do 1 place hakones and did not even see Mount Fuji which was the entire reason for the trip so a bit disappointed

Wonderful drive out to Mt. Fuji. Lovely area outside of Tokyo to visit. Stopped for a unique local lunch at family owned restaurant.
And snuck in an unexpected delight to Fuji Safari Park recommended by Marc our driver. You can drive thru the park and the amazing animals are right there beside the car! Ninja village and other welcomed surprises were enjoyed on this drive.

Driver was late although kept in touch with us on WhatsApp. We requested to skip Hakone and see more of Mt Fuji area. Great tour and filled our day. He showed us villages and took us to samurai museum. Didn’t offer any history of the mountain unless we asked about something. Suggestion is to read the reviews on here and request driver or guide by recommendations.

The drive was smooth and comfortable. Our driver, Zeb, was easy going and flexible to the itinerary we were interested in. We decided to do more in Hakone instead of go to 5th Station and we were so glad we did. We stopped at Lake Yamanaka for a beautiful Mt. Fuji photo just before bad weather rolled in. Had we gone to 5th Station the visibility would’ve been barely existent. We also stopped at Owakudani which was cool to see - try the chocolate muffin while there for a sweet treat.

Our "Mt. Fuji & Hakone Private Day Tour with English-Speaking Driver" was very pleasant, enriching and efficiently led by Rabs, our guide and driver. We accomplished all the activities which we wanted to in the day-long tour and were extremely lucky to be in a clear day, with a full view of the Mt Fuji, without any cloud around. We started with the
Open Air Museum, to be sure that we'll accomplish its visit without being in a hurry and after that, thanks to our guide and driver planning, we succeeded to catch in the last minute the Pirate Ship cruise to Togendai. The cruise revealed us extraordinary views of the lake Ashi, of the trees around (which turned in yellow and red like a symphony of colors) the, of the Torii Gate and of the Mt. Fuji (seen clearly in all its splendor, including the snow cap), and from there we took the Hakone Ropeway to Owakudani, where we enjoyed the very special view of the volcanic area and also another splendid view of the Mt. Fuji. I want to mention Rabs' flexibility and help, when we lost by a minute the cruise back, so he came to pick us with his car rather than having to wait another 40min for the next cruise.
It was already late, but Rabs agreed to let us visit also the Gora park/garden, which is a real gem, with flowers, fountains, green house and more.
It was a very intense experience and we were very happy after this visit and recommend the tour operator and Rabs, our guide.

We spent a wonderful day with Emon. The landscape outside of Tokyo is beautiful. We climbed 400 steps to Chureito Pagoda, saw amazing views of Mt. Fuji from the gardens of Oishi, and stopped for lunch in Hakone with a lake view. We also went on a hike in Hakone!

I had Akon as a guide, who was absolutely wonderful and made the day such a success. He was enthusiastic and thoughtful, and made sure that I covered all the places I wanted to. Our driver Emon really went above and beyond for the 4 of us for the day! He made perfect suggestions for lunch, photo spots, and sightseeing options (although we didn’t have time to see it all). He was also right there to pick us up as soon as we finished our activities and at the end of the night even drove us to the JR station to pick up our train passes. This personalised Mt Fuji tour with our wonderful guide Akon will be a lasting memory. The clean fresh air and stunning views at the 5th station Mt Fuji combined with the spectacular views of all the colours of the trees in autumn during our drives were awesome. Akon is an incredible guide and driver who was very easy to talk with and very smart who was able to answer all our questions. Hyde was our private guide and driver. Most important thing is how we vibe with our guide and at the end of this tour.. he was our friend. I have to say how caring and patient he was. He knew I had a fear of heights so he came with us and slowly walked with me the 400 steps and steep hills too see the shrine. Which was worth it. So thankful for him. So respectful, we felt safe with him. The tour was amazing. We took so many pictures or mount fuji. The lake was beautiful..best spot to see mount fuji. Loved the 8 ponds.. make sure u bring cash .. only cash in those stores and food carts. Will come back again. !!

Shera was simply the best! We’re normally DIY travelers, but his professionalism and service absolutely justified booking this trip. We coordinated with him via WhatsApp the day before and again the morning of our Mt. Fuji tour. Because of the uncertain weather, we planned two possible itineraries, and Shera was extremely helpful, flexible, and accommodating throughout.
He’s knowledgeable, calm, and great with kids — our two are still talking about how nice he was! Even though we customized parts of the trip ourselves (including a family onsen stop and a speedboat tour at Lake Kawaguchi), Shera offered excellent input and made everything smooth and enjoyable.
The car was spotless, spacious, and very comfortable. He was on time, polite, and genuinely pleasant to spend the day with. Despite the clouds, Shera’s positivity and professionalism made our Mt. Fuji tour the highlight of our Japan trip (even though we only saw the tip of My Fuji). Shera is the best! Highly recommend.

We were promptly picked up and dropped off at our hotel without any problems. It was cloudy in Tokyo but we were able to see Mt fuji when we were higher up in Step 5. Afterwards we were brought to a town famous for its natural ponds were we had street food for lunch . Then off to Fujisan , a beautiful old shrine. Jun our driver was very nice and kind. We was accommodating and gave us plenty of time to enjoy the sights. We wish we could take him with ius for our future trips for the rest of the trip.

We booked this Mt. Fuji day trip through Viator, expecting a professional and well-organized experience for our family (my wife, our son, and me). Unfortunately, it turned out to be a major disappointment.
Pros:
- The driver was polite, punctual, and friendly.
Cons:
- The biggest issue: the organizers only informed us less than 12 hour before our trip that our original, qualified driver couldn’t make it. By then, we had no option to reschedule or cancel, as the full payment had already been made.
- We were told a new luxury car would be provided, but a 10+ years old, worn-out vehicle showed up instead; it could barely manage the mountain roads.
- The new driver did not speak any English. We were promised an English-speaking tour guide who would accompany us and explain the sites, not just a non-communicative driver.
- The driver seemed unfamiliar with the route and got lost multiple times, wasting a lot of time between stops.
- Our 10-hour itinerary, which should have included at least 5 key attractions, was reduced to just 2: Mount Fuji and Owakudani volcanic valley.
- We were supposed to visit Lake Ashi and enjoy a boat cruise, but due to time mismanagement, we only saw the lake, no time was left for the cruise.
This was not the quality or service we expected from a Viator booking. The experience was frustrating, poorly handled, and not worth the high cost. I would not recommend this tour unless the company makes serious improvements in communication, vehicle quality, and itinerary delivery.

We understand your disappointment regarding the changes to your original driver and sincerely apologize for the last-minute adjustment. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, we had to reassign a replacement driver to ensure your tour could still proceed as planned. Please note that the vehicle provided was a Toyota Alphard, which is a premium class vehicle in Japan and typically used for VIP and comfort-level transfers.
We also reached out to you the day after your tour to check how everything went, but we did not receive a response. Had we heard back from you at that time, we would have been able to address your concerns more promptly.

We had a fantastic day with Sam as our guide. Clear skies gave us stunning views of Mt. Fuji on the drive to Hakone. Highlights included the Hakone Ropeway, Owakudani Valley with its famous black eggs, a cruise on Lake Ashi, visits to Hakone Shrine and the Open-Air Museum, and finally the Ropeway to Komagatake and the walk to Hakone Motosumiya Shrine. Sam was professional, friendly, and attentive throughout. We highly recommend this excursion.

There are various attractions in Hakone area, you should generate a wish-list and discuss with driver on that before

That’s a really good point—Hakone has so many great spots to choose from. We always recommend guests make a little wish-list of must-see attractions ahead of time and go over it with the driver at the start of the day.
