You do have to pay to get into the state park but after you can explore ot as well. The horses are very used to these trails and have no problem maneuvering through the terrain. Guides are knowledgeable. This would be excellent for a beginner. We had a 9 year in our group and the guide was very attentive to him. Would definitely book again for a longer ride.

This is a very relaxing horse trail and there are 2 river crossings which are very scenic. It can get a little dusty but that’s expected as you are out on a trail so advise to wear long pants and maybe a hat if you choose to not wear a helmet. Our tour guide was good and the owner is very friendly and personable. I will definitely book this again my next trip to Sedona! FYI: There is a $20 fee to enter the park.

    Fabulous time!

    Sue_G, Feb 2026
We were staying locally and booked a trail ride and so glad we did! There is a fee to get in to the state park, but please note, if you are a veteran, it is less. The stables are easy to find, plenty of parking. Helmets are available, not required. Bring sunscreen, water, a hat. The cowboys are helpful, funny, polite, and will help you get on and off if need be, and give you the basics of how to ride. The trail is pretty, through the woods, the horses cross the creek, which is fun. We saw a bald eagle soaring above, a hollowed-out tree full of bees and honey. We got some good pictures and really enjoyed our ride. We’d recommend for any age group. Please note there is a tip jar inside, and the cowboys share the tips.

    Such a great day!

What a great day! The horses were so well trained and gentle, honestly the best I’ve ever experienced on an excursion of this kind. The guides were so funny and engaging! Has the very best time. I rode Blu who was my spirit animal… a little bossy and hardheaded so we got along like old besties!

    Amazing!

    Sharon_D, Feb 2026
Loved the experience!! The only thing I would mention, there’s a fee to enter the park that isn’t included in the fee for the excursion. Still well worth the extra $20 per car to enter the park.

Brandon & Kevin were great! Nice pace with the horses and some information about the state park along the route. They paired the riders ability with the horse.

Thank you so much for riding with us! We’re thrilled to hear this was the highlight of your Sedona trip. Stanley will be over the moon to know he made your experience so memorable he loves what he does and it shows. The river crossing is a guest favorite, and we’re glad it was yours too. We appreciate you recommending us and hope to see you back on the trail next time you’re in Arizona!

Great riding experience, especially the river crossing.

    Mohammed_S, Nov 2025
Overall, a great experience riding the horse over terrain that is not completely flat, including crossing a river, makes this tour completely worth it. The horses were well trained and were a joy to ride. A few things could have been better but were not a deal breaker. For over 20-25 riders that included children aged 8 and above, there were only two people helping them saddle up and it seemed a bit rushed, so the stirrup adjustments were not done correctly and made the ride slightly uncomfortable for a few of us. But both the gentlemen were courteous and otherwise very helpful and provided a great experience. The second thing to note is that on the Viator info page, it is listed "Landing and facility fees" is not included. It would be helpful to explicitly state that the state park entrance fees is $20 per vehicle.

    First Timers

    Pedro_R, Nov 2025
Definitely a great experience. Luckily me and my wife were the only ones for our time slot. I didn’t know the place is in a state park. So be prepared to pay to enter the park. Also if you do have back problems it is a bouncy ride when they trot. My bottom felt it. Also take care of your belongings because things can fall off. (Hats, wallets, phones). We definitely want to come back with my family and do a bigger group.

I actually did not go on this experience. I needed to cancel and the vendor was very good about it. Apparently Viator still thinks I went that leads me to believe I better check to make sure if they gave me a credit for the payment..

Not what or were we expected

    DAVID_P, Oct 2025
Check the map before you book! It’s NOT Sonoma, it’s in a state park 35 mile south. Yo also need to pay an entry fee of $20 dollars to get into the state park. We’d had to stand around for an additional hour because they were “ a bit behind”. There’s area BETTER choices in the area for this kind of activity

    Response from Host, Oct 2025

While we’re not in downtown Sedona, we’re just 20 miles south a scenic 25-minute drive that many of our guests say is part of the adventure. The beauty of this state park is exactly why we chose it: We are the only company with a river crossing, and views you simply can’t get elsewhere

    Poor horses

    Karin_S, Oct 2025
There were a lot of people. One of the horses was sick and one kept tripping (perhaps a hoof issue). Trail was very dusty and the eyes of the horses were crusty. The horses do 4 rides a day.

    Response from Host, Oct 2025

We’re grateful you joined us on the trail and took time to share your thoughts. Every guest matters and so does every horse. Our horses are living beings, not machines. They have good days and off days, just like people. What you saw may have been colic, a tummy ache triggered by weather shifts. When a horse feels unwell, we act immediately with the same urgency and compassion as you would for a loved one. They’re rotated daily, monitored closely, and cared for like family. Dust and crust around the eyes are common in Arizona’s dry climate and this time of year. We clean and check them regularly. If a horse moves differently, it doesn’t mean they’re unhealthy have you ever tripped while walking? They never fall, and they’re strong, sure-footed, and deeply loved. Sometimes guests see a moment and assume neglect but behind the scenes is a team that gives constant care, devotion, and guardianship they just don’t get to see.

    Best day EVER!

    Diane_L, Oct 2025
So much fun!!! Horses were amazing! Beautiful, sunshine day with gorgeous mountains and the best trail ride!

The Horses were super sweet and followed directions. The gentleman that helped us fill out paper work was hilarious. Our ride leader was great too.

Get anew perspective of the Sedona area from a great and different vantage point.

    David_P, Oct 2025
Let’s be clear. I was never on a horse before and I’m 70 years old. The attention by Kevin and Shawn put me at ease. I rode lil honey and was so excited and found the experience amazing.

. It was a beautiful ride. The landscape and stream crossing was fun. Our guide was a wealth of information and helpful. I had never ridden horse before so I was also a bit anxious. It all worked out well.

We had such a blast riding here! All of the staff were attentive, helpful, and tremendously funny. We saw some beautiful sights, learned a few things, and really got to enjoy the horses and their personalities. It was fun to see the camaraderie between the staff and the relationships they all have with the horses.
