Itinerary

Meet a driver at your centrally located hotel; bus stop, if your hotel isn't on the pick-up list; or at the Reykjavík cruise port, then board a climate-controlled minibus for the trip to the Reykjanes peninsula. The first stop of the day is Kleifarvatn Lake, which tops a fissure zone, and is fed entirely from underground, then you’ll continue to Graenavatn, a small lake in a volcanic crater with brilliant, teal-colored water.

Keep driving to the multicolored hills of Krysuvik, where you can stretch your legs on a walk between the bubbling hot springs. Pause for lunch at the harbor town of Keflavik—you can bring your own or purchase lunch upon arrival. Cross the “Bridge Between the Continents” driving between Iceland’s two tectonic plates. Head to the geothermal mud pools of Gunnuhver, where you’ll hear the spot’s fascinating ghost story.

Watch for birds along this stretch of coast, and visit Reykjanesviti, the oldest lighthouse in Iceland. The last highlight of the tour is crossing the “Bridge Between the Continents” driving between Iceland’s two tectonic plates.

This tour concludes with drop-off at your original departure point, at the Keflavik International Airport for flights departing 4pm or later, or at the Blue Lagoon (please note your desired drop-off point when booking).

Great tour

Mike_C, Dec 2024
Really good tour and excellent guide lots to see even though it was dark due to winter. The lava fields were good to see and the keyboard at the edge of the world

Amazing tour!

Great 'tour ending at KEF airport

Lesley_C, Sep 2024
The most memorable part of the tour was due to the knowledge and friendliness of our tour guide, Starri. Rather than just driving us from tourist attraction to tourist attraction, Starri gave us a real look and history of Rejkavik and its surroundings. We had a fun stop at a market where we were able to buy (with Starri's guidance) popular Icelandic candies to take home. Best souvenirs ever. The only negative part was the van was too small for 6 people,

Spectacular tour with an excellent guide

Biljana_R, Aug 2024
The guide was excellent, telling us many things about Icelandic society, economy, nature and of course about visited sites. The sites were spectacular and I really enjoyed the tour. The only thing I didn't like is too many emails from Viator sending me the same ticket at least 3 times. All in all for this one tour I received more then 10 emails from Viator. Please do not spam us with unnecessary emails!

Volcanic Landscapes

Diane_M, Aug 2024
Our driver/guide was Gauti, who was very knowledgeable on the Reykjanes volcanic area. We had done the Golden Circle the day before, where you see a cascading waterfall, small geyser and blue lake but would recommend the Geopark tour above that, as so much more to see and experience a wider range of landscapes. Thermal power stations, walk on 800 year old lava fields, view gannet rookeries, vast lakes, bubbling pools in colourful mineral landscapes and stand between two continents on the tectonic plates of Europe and North America. Also the President’s house and meeting buildings. Gauti also told us about Iceland’s political, historical and mythological background. As there were only six of us on the tour, there was plenty of room on the Mini. We were dropped off at our accommodation in Kellie after an interesting day. Thanks to Gateway to Iceland and Gauti.

Best Tour

Misty_B, Jul 2024
Our guide Gauti Erickson was excellent. He knew so much about the locations we visited. This was one of the best tours I have ever done. We enjoyed every minute!

Great tour

Sandra_L, Jul 2024
The tour guide was great. We enjoyed the stops, and the tour gives you a little taste of Iceland. However, I would be hesitant to book for airport drop off. Our flight was at 4:45, and we got dropped off at the airport around 2:45. I was reassured that KEF is a small airport, but it was still a 15-20 minute walk to the gate, and the line for passport control was long. Our flight ended up being delayed 15 minutes, which was fortunate for us because we didn't get to the gate until 4:40. I do wish we could have been picked up earlier. We had to disembark our cruise at 8AM and waited outside with nowhere to sit until pickup at 9:30. The weather was gloomy with light rain, so an earlier pickup time would have been more convenient and helped us avoid the stress at the airport. However, it all worked out, and the tour itself was great.

Outstanding tour!

Amy_V, Jul 2024
This tour was amazing and our guide was too. It was very nice to have a small group tour as there were only 7 of us on our trip so we had plenty of time at each stop. We took a moment to drive to the Icelandic President's house to allow time for the weather to clear up and it did! We saw so many neat and different things, from all the different colors of the hot springs to the beautiful Graenavatn or green lake. The bridge between continents offers a fun photo moment. But the highlight for us was seeing the Memorial to the Great Auk and The home of Volcano Man- the spot where they filmed this song from the Eurovision Story Of Fire Saga movie starring Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams! As another bonus, we had the time to visit Brimketil pool, which was just spectacular. We choose to be dropped off at the Blue Lagoon afterwards, and that was fantastic as well since we were permitted to drive on the road past the closed village Grindavik and we saw the new lava fields on our way to the Blue Lagoon. Things to keep in mind: even in summer, dress for wind and weather as these changed many times during our trip. Our guide let us know that given where we were headed, that we didn't have a scheduled lunch stop, but we were able to grab lunch at a shop so we could eat on the way. He also helped plan out bathroom stops as most locations do not have restrooms. The hot springs do have an odor of sulphur which can be strong. It didn't bother us, but may not be the best tour for someone traveling with small children, but perfect for older kids/ teens.

Response from Host, Sep 2024

Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback! We’re glad you appreciated the flexibility of our itinerary, like the visit to the Icelandic President’s house to wait out the weather. Your highlights truly showcase the diverse beauty of Iceland. We appreciate your practical tips for future travelers, such as dressing for changing weather and being prepared for the sulfur smell at the hot springs. Thank you for choosing our tour company, and we hope to welcome you back for another adventure soon! Safe travels! 🌍✨

Geopark Tour - Take It

Tour guide was very pleasant and knowledgeable. Allowed ample time to visit sites and for a great lunch at a small harbor town. Easy access to most locations and easy walking distance for each stop. Highly recommended - Brad_B

Beautiful landscape

Kimberly_B, Jun 2023
The landscape was incredible. It was like walking on the moon! So glad we did this tour. Our flight home wasn't until 8pm, so this was a great way to kill half a day.

Deeper than the Crust

Malcolm_L, Mar 2023
Our driver was most informative and pleasant giving us some knowledge in respect of the geological aspects of Iceland, it's history and politics. We thoroughly enjoyed the excursion and recommend it.

Response from Host, Mar 2023

Thank you for taking the time to write such a lovely review and delighted you enjoyed the tour. Thank you also for the recommendation and we hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay in Iceland.

Very informative & thorough tour

Anonymous, Feb 2023
This tour was one of the most interesting, thorough tours I have ever been on. Gummi, our tour guide took us all over the peninsula and was full of information and took us to out-of-the-way sites that other tour companies would not have visited. We even had a sit-down lunch with Gummi at a nice casual restaurant. Highly recommend this tour!

Response from Host, Mar 2023

Thank you for taking the time to write a review and for your kind words about Gummi. I'm pleased you found the tour interesting and received lots of information to add to your experience. Thank you also for the recommendation, much appreciated. I hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay in Iceland.

Very knowledgeable guide and amazing nature. Not much walking during the tour which fitted me perfectly being pregnant.

Response from Host, Aug 2022

Thank you for your review and comments regarding the tour and guide. I'm pleased you found this tour suited you personally; we always aim to meet our guests' individual needs and delighted this was achieved for you.

Great trip should be offered more

Kris_P, Jun 2022
Tour guide was excellent and was a great area to explore. This should be offered more though because the drop off at the airport is a nice bonus.

Response from Host, Jun 2022

Thank you for your very good answer. We always do our best to support our customers.

Soooo niceeee

Nely_G, Apr 2022
The guide knew soooo many things. We got to have what seemed like a tour from a local. We got to know more about the history of Iceland and Reykjavik and the different traditions and beliefs. The places that were included were not that crowded and not as touristic.

Response from Host, Apr 2022

Thank you for our great review. We are very happy you enjoyed the Reykjanes tour and your guide. We hope to see you again someday.

A good way to spend your final day but a bit short

Jamie_C, Jul 2021
It was a nice way to get in another activity before our flight and guarantee transport to the airport. I'm not sure if it is just because of the poor weather but we went through the locations quickly and the entire excursion was about an hour shorter than expected.

Response from Host, Jul 2021

Hello Jamie, thank you for your review. The Reykjanes tour starts with pick up between 8.30-9.00 and for those going to the airport to be dropped off at 2.00-2.30. It is a very good half-day tour and a good way to get to the airport. I´m sorry that you felt it was too short. We wish you well. Best regards, Gtice, Gateway to Iceland

Knowledgeable guide

Anja_R, Sep 2020
Interesting sights of Reykjanes. Small group and Gummi was a guide with a lot of knowledge and he let us enough time to explore the sights.

Response from Host, Sep 2020

Hi Anja It is great to hear you enjoyed our Reykjanes tour, it is a hidden gem, isn't it?:-) Thank you for posting your review! Hope to see you in the future again! Greetings, Gateway to Iceland's team

Highly recommend Reykjanes Geopark

Helen_B, Feb 2020
This tour was very good, from pick up on time through to drop off at pre arranged destination. The route was so scenic and fascinating, and the knowledge of the area by our Scottish driver, Ian, was interesting and really informative about local traditions, geology and the history of the island and area. I would highly recommend this tour as it's not such a touristy area to tour and few people were around. My only criticism would be for the guide to provide a length of time allowed during each stop, as a clear guideline so the passengers know how long they have i.e for lunch or to view a certain area.

Great trip! Not to be missed!

Alina O, Dec 2019
Do yourself a favor and book this trip! It was amazing and very well organized. Andres (our guide) was very professional, knowledgeable, funny and communicative. He also offered to send us hi own pics via email. We have seen many amazing places and stopped at the small port cafe to eat an amazing lobster soup! The Gateway to Iceland is one of the two the best travel companies we used in Iceland. We will definitely use their services in the future when we will be back to the land of fire and ice! Thank you a lot!

Great tour, off the beaten track

Nichola_C, Nov 2019
This tour takes you into an area that's not as well known as others. We visited in November when the mountains were fully covered in snow. It was so beautiful. Our guide Trond was great, timed it perfectly to see some sheep being brought in from the land for the winter.

Fantastic tour before flying home

Scubaj0, Apr 2019
I didn’t have enough time with other tours as my flight was at 5pm back to Canada - the Reykjanes tour was just perfect - a relatively quiet region from the bulk of the tourists but filled with many hidden gems. The drop off at the airport timed after the tour finished was a cherry on top.

elaine_cottam, Nov 2017
Brilliant trip and our guide, Bjorn, was very informative and managed to stop at 2-3 unplanned places. Nice small group on the mini bus tour which I would highly recommend versus travelling in a larger coach. Thoroughly enjoyed the day, and whilst there were some places we enjoyed more than others, overall it was a great day out. The weather was glorious and I think this perhaps helped with the enjoyment. Only downside was that we didnt receive a confirmation prior to departure and the pass in my wallet app only gave limited information about the trip.

Derek j R, Jul 2017
The tour was amazing! We had a small tour group 10 people so it was very personalized. Bjorn was a great tour guide. He was very knowledgeable and timed our stops perfectly as to avoid the big tour groups. My girlfriend and I did this tour on our last day in Iceland. We were staying in Reykajavik and were looking for a way to do some sightseeing on our way back to the airport. This tour did not disappoint. I would definitely heed their advice about wearing warm clothing. It was windy and rainy for much of the tour.

Frances F, Jul 2017
Our trip was okay, The sites were amazing, but the tour guide wasn't as informative as we had experienced on previous tours. He told unusual stories and had a conversation with one member of our tour. We didn't get much information about the landscape, or the history of the towns or sites seen. Also, we made a quick stop at a gas station for lunch, not what we expected. He was pressed to get one of the tourists to the Blue Lagoon at her 2:00 reservation . We were advised by the tour company to book our reservation at the Blue Lagoon after 3:00 so we could take advantage of the full tour. We then had to wait almost 2 hours at the Blue Lagoon because we got there earlier than we were told. Also, we were staying at an AirBnb they didn't pick us up at our address we had to walk to meet the tour at a hotel. The other tours we took picked us up at our door. The tour was not worth the price.

Exceptionnel

majo, Jul 2023

Response from Host, Jul 2023

Thank you for taking the time to write this review and delighted you enjoyed the landscape, the sites you saw and your guide's hospitality. Sorry for any stress caused during the pick up, it is impossible to give an exact time which is why all tour operators have a 30 minute window for pick up and guests are asked to be ready for the start of the pick up time. We do our best to pick up within this time but sometimes external factors, such as traffic or waiting for guests, can have an impact on the rest of the pick up time. I hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay in Iceland.

Geologische Erlebnistour auf die Halbinsel Reykjanes

Christof_D, Mar 2023

Response from Host, Mar 2023

Thank you for taking the time to write such a lovely review and for your recommendation. Delighted to read that you enjoyed the tour, found it informative and also enjoyed the stop for lunch. We hope the rest of your stay in Iceland was equally pleasant.
