Itinerary
Depart your Reykjavik hotel in a spacious Chevrolet Suburban 2015 or similar luxury 4x4 SUV, with your guide. Then, drive toward your first Golden Circle sight, UNESCO-listed Thingvellir National Park.
Let your guide know if there’s anything you want to see more of: your tour is private, so the itinerary can be tailored around you. Your tour route also takes in several restaurant and cafes, where if you wish, you can take a break for lunch (own expense).
Cross the heathland of Mosfellsheidi plateau, absorbing the volcanic mountains on the horizon, as you travel northwest to Thingvellir. Hear about Iceland’s volcanic landscapes along the way, and once inside the park, see where the Eurasian and North American continental plates lie overland, facing each other across a narrow valley.
View the Thingvellir site where Iceland’s first parliaments sat from 930 AD, and then continue to the tiny village of Laugarvatn, set on Lake Laugarvatn. After seeing the lake’s natural steam bath and hot springs, sitting above a natural geyser, travel onward to the Geysir geothermal area.
Walk among Geysir's bubbling springs and steam vents, and watch the Strokkur geyser erupt, sending a plume of water into the sky. Then, journey to nearby Gullfoss, whose Icelandic name means ‘Golden Fall.’ Hop outside here, and follow the path to the fall: where waters crash down a ‘staircase’ before plunging into a chasm.
Having admired this natural wonder, visit the Faxi waterfall, a lesser-known sight near the Golden Circle trail. Soak in the power of the thundering waters, and see the salmon ladder built to allow salmon to jump the falls and travel upstream to breed.
After passing several pretty villages, return to Reykjavik, where your tour ends with a hotel drop-off.

We had a great time at Golden Circle. It is a beautiful place, definitely worth visiting. The only regret was the weather. Our drive Jon is very friendly, thoughtful and knowledgeable person. With him we enjoyed the trip even more.
A private tour with Siggi of AR tours is the best way to see sites on the Golden Circle. Siggi was a good and cheerful companion, came prepared with raincoats and umbrellas, drove carefully and took us to interesting sites, some of which were unfrequented by tourists. We enjoyed talking with him over the lunch in a greenhouse, and meeting a woman who maintains a wool shop and knits sweaters. He was very helpful at every stop. Very highly recommended
What gorgeous natural beauty and scenic sights - the private tour of the Golden Circle with “Beyond Reykjavík Tours” that we booked online and were so fortunate to have Mr. Siglus Thor as our tour guide, was a delightful experience!
It was superbly managed, as Mr. Thor proved not only very knowledgeable but also quite entertaining, giving us the most interesting, enjoyable and wholesome 9 hours with his expertise. He kept the mood light and fun and maintained a perfect balance of keeping time, without rushing us. He was even able to include a couple of unique experiences like the greenhouse visit & a horse riding show along with the highlights such as geo-thermal springs, various mesmerising waterfalls, þingvellir national park etc. We are extremely happy with his warm, amicable and professional personality - we highly recommend this tour with Mr. Siglus Thor for an amazing and a very memorable experience. Thank you!
When we booked this tour we chose the places we wanted to go and expected a 7-9 hour tour. Secret Lagoon was one the highlights we were most looking forward to. However, when we realized we were back in Reykjavik after only 6 hours and headed to our hotel we asked our guide, Siggy, what about Secret Lagoon and he told us it was too far out of the way. Rest of the trip was very nice and Siggy was very informative but we left Reykjavik without going to the place we most wanted to visit, Secret Lagoon.
Fantastic experience our guide Erlingur was amazing!! Would highly recommend!!! Very comfortable car.
Too much emphasis was on our buying products at places chosen by the driver. Our driver was knowledgeable and personable but we took the trip to see the sights not to visit places we could buy souvenirs etc. and he got quite upset because we didn’t buy anything.
Excellent tour. Siggi was a great host and ensured it was smooth for our family, including two kids. Highly recommend.
Jon is personable, informative and accommodating. He will take you down some back roads to find the hidden side of Iceland. While there were only two of us, he can accomodate a larger group with a different vehicle. I have already encouraged my son to contact Jon and go with a group of friends.
Our guide was incredible. So relaxed and friendly. We never felt rushed. We saw everything we wanted to! Gorgeous!
Our group of six had an amazing time on our private Golden Circle tour with BR Tours, booked through Viator.
Every stop on the tour had the most incredible stunning sights.
Our driver/tour guide Siggi was very informative, accommodating & friendly as well as an excellent,
safe driver. Siggi never rushed us. We were able to tour all sights at our own pace. We also had a wonderful relaxing lunch at the cute and cozy tomato/ horse farm.
Jon from BR Tours was my initial contact and responded to all questions without delay.
Jon actually met up with us at the waterfall area of the tour to provide our group with crampons so that we could safely walk on the icy pathways.
We really appreciated BR Tours going above & beyond which made for a most memorable experience.
We had, what can only be described as, a magical day with our tour guide Jon. Jon is extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and thoughtful in his tour. We went in without many expectations and by the end of the day had fallen in love with the beauty of Iceland. We even passed Jon’s business card along to our hotel front desk (the Retreat Hotel) with a great reference for others staying there. By the end of the day we felt like we had a new friend in Jon. Definitely worth it.
Great day with Jon. Saw places and things bigger tours wouldn’t see. Very informative and friendly. Pace of the day was great!
Leave early to avoid big crowds at stops. Ask in advance to make reservations at tomato farm if you want to eat lunch there
Ideal to have a private tour and avoid the large buses. Our guide Siggi was absolutely wonderful and was flexible about the itinerary showing us places we didn’t expect to see. A highlight of our Norway/Iceland trip. Beautiful scenery plus history lesson. We appreciate Viator’s payment scheduling and cancellation policy.
Egill is exceptionally knowledgeable about Iceland’s past and present. His tour included a scenic drive alongside Þingvallavatn and other fascinating points of interest (I contend the inventor of geothermal
hydroponics should have a holiday or at least a prize named in their honor) in addition to the “must-see” stops along the Golden Circle.
Whether your interest is Viking history, natural beauty, or locations from your favorite TV and movies, Egill is your man!
Jon was very knowledgeable and took the time to show us places not mentioned on any tour we looked at
This tour was amazing! The car was very comfortable and we could do everything on our own pace. We learned so much about iceland and we saw amazing places. The driver made beautiful pictures of us, so we have great memories :-). He was very kind and attentive and made sure that we had the best experience possible. The lunch on the tomato farm was fantastic.
This was a terrific tour! Our guide was personable and we were able to hit all the major spots. We were even more impressed that they were able to arrange a tour on super short notice. Our original plans for the day were canceled the evening before, so we booked this tour with our fingers crossed they'd actually show up, and they did. Highly recommend!
Awesome tour. Jon was extremely accommodating and knowledgeable. He made a couple of unscheduled stops that were very interesting. I would highly.l recommend this to anyone.
The entire day was special, our guide (cc, not sure of the proper spelling) was excellent and informative, the his vehicle was very nice and comfortable and the countryside beautiful!
The guide took us to many unique places that a tour bus would never see. We had a terrific experience!
We really liked this tour. The guide was amazing and very knowledgeable. He made sure to take us to the best sports and avoid the crazy crowds. Loved him
Siggi was great! Very knowledgeable but did not talk too much. We thoroughly enjoyed the sites. I would recommend this tour!
Jon took us to the "usual" spectacular spots on the Golden Circle -- the Great Geyser, Gullfoss, Secret Lagoon, Fontana -- and also a couple of spots that are off the beaten path that we wouldn't have seen on a larger tour: an amazing quarry where beautiful volcanic sediment is being mined, an incredible tomato hothouse, and other memorable spots.
Jon is incredibly knowledgeable and personable. It was a real joy to spend a day with him and we felt like we'd received a very special perspective on this incredible area.
We so enjoyed the private tour. The van was great (a new Mercedes Sprinter) and our tour guide, Egill, customized the tour for us along the way allowing us to see the things we found most interesting. Any amazing sights and photo ops. The tomato farm and restaurant was not on our radar but ended up being one of the highlights of the tour. Highly recommend.
The entire trip was great with Jon who was very knowledge and friendly, this was definitely a good value.
Siggi, our guide, was amazing. He was flexible with our time because we had some slowpokes in the group. Geysir and waterfall were beautiful and lunch st yhe tomato farm was very fun. We had a great time.
Our driver was fantastic. Very informative and took us to places we would not have known about. Very good value.
I liked the multiple places we went to and how local favorites were included. Especially on food items. The sites were amazing!
Our tour guide Jon was very nice & informative; he even show us a bit of Reykjavik before we head out for our Circle Tour. We also had a chance to take photos of the Sun Voyage! We start our tour around 2 pm in the afternoon unlike the others that starts mostly in the am; because we docked at noon! We finished our tour by approximately 10 pm with a dip in the Secret Lagoon (he oldest bathing pool) in Iceland!
