A fantastic food tour put together by Nordic Nonsense with a wonderful collection of both traditional and modern dishes. The tour also includes great local beers and an amazing cocktail at the end. Our guide, Atli, was simply wonderful. He gave us an insightful look at the region's history, as well as a local's perspective on Reykjavik. Highly recommend!

I highly recommend this food tour. Everything was delicious or it was fermented shark 😂. Trying the traditional food this way was great as you got to learn some history as to why it was eaten. Our guide was friendly and funny. As non-alcohol drinkers we still loved trying the local beers (passion fruit and coffee were our favorites) and the mocktail we got at the end was wonderful!

We had the best time on this tour. We got to taste some really great food, have some amazing beverages and learn a lot about Reykjavik. Jon was awesome and was a wealth of info and took us to some really amazing places-some real hidden gems! Definitely book this tour if you are in Reykjavik. We would book it again in a heartbeat!

    Great Food Tour

    Wayne_T, Sep 2026
Best food tour I have ever been on! The guide, a co-owner of Nordic Nonsense was great. The food was not all delicious, especially the fermented shark, but we tried it anyway. The baked goods were fabulous and the spirits even better. Highly recommended.

Too long and food was average

    Anne_H, Aug 2026
I booked this thinking it would be a fun foodie tour but it was half history lessons mostly standing up around town. I wouldn't mind a little info but my back and feet were killing me. As far as the food it was average but the hot dog was downright gross and we had to wait in line for an hour for it. The rest of the food and drinks were OK. The last 2 stops were the best - the Italian restaurant and cocktails. This tour would be much better if it were significantly less history and cut out the hot dog stop.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that the tour wasn’t quite what you were expecting. Our experience is designed as a combination of Icelandic food, local drinks, Reykjavík sightseeing and stories about Icelandic culture and history, so some walking and standing between the tasting stops is an important part of the experience. We do try to keep the history engaging and connected to the places and food we visit, but we appreciate your feedback that you would have preferred a greater focus on the food. We’re also sorry that the hot dog stop wasn’t to your taste and that you experienced such a long wait. The Icelandic hot dog is a very traditional local food that many of our guests really enjoy, but we understand that it isn’t for everyone, and the unexpected wait certainly didn’t help. We’re glad to hear that you enjoyed the fish restaurant and cocktails, and we appreciate you sharing both the positives and the areas where you felt we could improve. Feedback like this is valuable to us as we continue to refine the experience. Thank you again for joining us, and we hope you enjoyed the rest of your time in Iceland!

    Excellent Tour

The best food and drink tour I’ve taken. Jon is from Reykjavik and shared his many experiences growing up with us. Tons to eat and drink. Highly recommend.

    What a wonderful tour!

    William_H, Aug 2026
This tour checked all the boxes, traditional dishes, fun spots and plenty to eat and drink. However the best part of the tour was our guide Magnea. She was warm, knowledgeable and fun. Our group of 6 was totally satisfied and we would recommend this tour and Magnea to anyone.

    Book it!

Very enjoyable tour, good food and conversation! The local beer we tried was great and the iconic hot dog stand was too!

Great experience! Guide very knowledgable and we were able to sample many different local foods - including the hot dogs and fermented shark (yuck!)

Our guide was informative about the history of Reykjavík, she took time to answer our questions and was very personable. The different foods and beers offered were authentic Iceland and great. The only other thing I wish was offered is ice cream. This is my second food tour in Reykjavík and it was another great experience.

    Come hungry!

    alewinter3, Aug 2026
Come hungry. There are two sit-down meals, with beer, wine or soda, a stop at a popular hot dog stand, a patty shop and a cocktail bar with hot dourves. The guide conveyed alot of Icelandic history while we walked from place to place. Would have preferred an ice cream stop instead of donuts.

    Wonderful experience

    Jennifer_S, Aug 2026
We loved this tour! Svenni was a wonderful guide and made us feel as though we were out for an evening with a group of friends. He introduced us to traditional Icelandic foods and answered our many questions about his country. Come hungry! There was plenty of food and drink.

    Fabulous Food Tour

Loved this food tour. Our guide Jon was great and gave us lots of interesting history about sites along the way. There was so much food and drink. Definitely bring your appetite.

Fantastic Icelandic "food and facts" tour! The selected locations and food were a great cross-section of foods to try and enjoy with nice background stories. Our guide, Atli was very knowledgeable and accommodating, answering all of our group's many questions about Iceland and Reykyvik! His catch phrase of "Depends on who you ask" was quickly adopted by the group and our discussions! Really personalized the facts! He also went above and beyond by personally purchasing his favorite treat and sharing with the group at our last stop! Only challenge we had was on the initial meetup. Our vouchers said in front of the church, behind the statue. We met up with the participants behind the statue and the guide was at the front door of the church, so it took a while and couple calls to connect. Maybe a sign or badge to make connection easier?

What a great introduction to Iceland and local foods and drink. Alti was a wonderful, knowledgeable, and fun guide going above and beyond expectations

As someone traveling solo, I definitely was nervous but Svenni was a great guide and did a great job keeping us all engaged. All the spots he took us too were great and were also places I looked at and thought to myself, “I want to go in there!” But was too nervous to go alone so I was glad we got to go to many of those places! Would absolutely recommend solo or not!

What an excellent tour! Just a great way to get introduced to a city. Learned a lot about Reykjavik and Iceland. Our guide was knowledgeable, open to questions and generally cares about his country. We always love the idea of getting a taste of local fare. The food options we felt were authentic and diverse and always paired with a really good local beer. The tour was about 3.5 hrs but it was just the right pace, never felt rushed and a perfect start to an evening

    Fun, Filling and Unique

    Elizabeth_M, Jun 2026
Nordic Nonsense plans a fabulous, fun and filling food tour sprinkled with history. This company’s owners clearly love their city and sharing it with others. The food stops were varied with ample drinks and local delicacies. We booked a 4:30 pm walk which easily took the place of dinner. Our small group blended well for a lot of laughs. Highly recommended.

    Good food

    Helen_B, Jun 2026
Good tour for drinkers, food was delicious. Tour guide talks to much about politics and takes you to friends restaurants.

Great food with a lot of personality

    Philip_M, Jun 2026
This was far more than a food tour. Our guide gave us a lot of information about the city, and its history. It’s present day activities, as well as an introduction to food of the past and food of the present. Not to mention lots of drink.

    Best food tour Ever!!!!

We have been to many world cities, and always do a food tour on the first day. This tour, led by Sveni via his company Nordic Nonsense was an absolute blast! It felt like we had a close friend in Reykjavik taking us to his favorite spots. It was the best food tour we have ever taken. Be hungry, be thirsty and be prepared for fun and Icelandic knowledge.

Our guide, Svenni, shared many wonderful stories that helped us to better understand and appreciate Icelandic culture. All while enjoying some amazing food and drinks. A highlight for my family was the special surprise treat at the last stop, which made the evening that much more memorable. I highly recommend the tour. My family had a great time. Thanks Svenni!

This was a top notch exploration of the Reykjavík food and drink culture with an excellent local guide who helped shape the rest of our trip through Iceland. We had an amazing time and I’d recommend to anyone gong to Iceland for the first time.

    A must-do activity!

    Allison_H, May 2026
We had an incredible time on the food tour with Sven and Benni. They were charismatic, welcoming, and effortlessly funny hosts who made the entire experience feel like an evening out with old friends rather than a guided tour. The pacing was perfect — enough time to enjoy each stop without ever feeling rushed — and every food and drink pairing was absolutely delicious. What really made the tour memorable was the storytelling. Beyond the fantastic food & drink, we loved learning about Icelandic history, especially notable figures like Ingibjörg H. Bjarnson, whose burial site, specifically, has left a lasting impression. And of course, we’ll never look at jam the same way again. We have walked away with a newfound appreciation for its resourceful applications and the kind of local wisdom you probably won’t find in any guidebook. A genuinely fun, unique, and unforgettable experience from start to finish. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Iceland.
