Great tour to get to know the city upon arrival

Stephanie_L, Apr 2026
I gotta say. This tour was amazing. I almost missed it because I did not hear my alarm but thankfully and coincidentally the tour guide called me (which woke me up) to change the time for half an hour later (which worked even better lol). The 2 hour walk along the city with the cold weather was super comfortable and we barely felt the walk at all. (So don't worry about it) Our guide Nory did an amazing job. He is so knowledgeable and has a great sense of humor which made the tour very insightful, interesting and very very fun. We learned a lot about Iceland, its history, the Reykjavik City, etc and even got a chance to run up to a few of the stores he recommended before our next tour (since we had the day fully booked). (We ate the traditional Lamp soup. Soo good) It was great that we booked this tour the second day of our stay because the day we arrived to Iceland we had no idea where to go, how to get by or where anything was. So, this tour first thing in the morning was enough for us to learn where everything was and what we wanted to visit. So much so, that there were places we needed to go for other tours and we were going to go by bus but decided to talk to the spots instead since we already got to know the area. I know for a fact that without this tour I would have never known where to go and would have missed so many fun and interesting places around the city. Thank you soo much! We had fun. Definitely will recommend this tour.

Awesome tour!

Awesome tour! Our tour guide Nori (not sure on spelling?) was fantastic! Taught us so much about Iceland and Reykjavik and he was such a pleasure to be around. Would recommend!

Great tour and great guide

Dominique_P, Mar 2026
Very fun and informative. Weather was harsh, windy and snowy but our guide was able to find us some spots to recuperate from the cold.

Beautiful but cold Reykjavik

Great introduction to Reykjavik. Guide was funny, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and engaging. Would definitely recommend.

Excellent walking tour with a local guide.

Damian_G, Mar 2026
Marteinn was brilliant - engaging and knowledgeable. A couple didn't manage to get there on time, but he did as much as he possibly could to ensure they could catch us up, which, unfortunately for them (because they missed a great tour experience), they didn't. As a local, we learned a huge amount about Icelandic and Viking history from him, right up to the present day. He demonstrated a good sense of humour and shrewd level of awareness to encourage debate without getting too controversial. The group was small (8, but should have been 10) and that made it feel more personable. Not too strenuous physically and taken at an easy pace, with the occasional opportunity to shelter from a biting wind and he ran perfectly to time. Marteinn was able to give guidance and recommendations on how to get the best from our holiday as well. He showed genuine interest in his guests and we felt valued as a result. A great experience. Thank you Marteinn.

Excellent city tour

Dawn_S, Feb 2026
Great tour with fascinating history of the city, country and culture. Ana was fabulous and had a great sense of humor!

Guided walk around Reykjavik.

Rachel_P, Feb 2026
Meeting the guide was easy. A nice steady introductory walk around Reykjavik, with the guide explaining the history and pointing out very interesting features that you might otherwise just walk past unknowingly.

Wonderful Overview

Dana_C, Feb 2026
Wonderful overview of the city center. Appreciated that it included indoor stops as well to help warm up along the way.

Fab tour

Wonderful city tour experience

Mary_H, Jan 2026
Our guide was Ryan - he's was very informative, fun with a touch of good humour. We were guided to many local places of interest which we walked past the previous day with no understanding of the importance & history of such places of interest. Definitely to be recommended to help orientated yourself & make the most of your visit to a very special city.

Dave_B, Jan 2026
Out guide Martyn met us with good humour, which he maintained throughout, whilst giving everyone a close personal experience with a good balance of interest and historical fact. We cannot recommend this tour highly enough, and all over ready walking.

Reykjavik walking tour

Graham_F, Jan 2026
This was our fourth trip to Reykjavik. This really should have been the first thing to do on our first trip. Asta, pronounced 'Ousta I believe, our guide, was very informative and despite the weather kept us all amused throughout the tour with both legendary tales and facts and figures. Excellent value for money though the tour at two hours is criminally short. I personally would have like more time at the end for more questions.

Awkward

emily_h, Jan 2026
The only word I can use to describe this tour was “awkward”. David, was a nice enough fellow but left a lot to be desired as a guide. He seemed to struggle with what to say, and said multiple times, “What questions would you like to ask me?” as if searching for topics. We have done several other walking tours with Viator in other countries and learned a lot while simultaneously being entertained. After 1.5 hours with some awkward silences, we not only felt like we knew little more about Reykjavík than when we started but we were looking forward to the arrival of darkness at 4pm so we might escape unnoticed. Also, to really call this a walking tour is kind of embellishment. We walked from the church to the pond in 2 hours…probably totaling 800-1000 meters. Perhaps other guides are better, but this was a waste of time and money. So sad.

Response from Host, Jan 2026

Hello Emily and I'm sorry to hear about your negative experience and of course I want to invite you for a walk again with another guide of ours when you are next time in Iceland, free of charge. Please reach out to us by email on your next visit. David (Dávur) has been with us for a couple of years and so far its all been very positive feedback as you can read on other 5-star reviews on this page. I'm sorry to hear that you didn't connect better during the tour, but also relieved to read that you say he was a "nice fellow" During the the two hour tour you covered various topics and over a mile in distance. Each stop Ending with Dávur asking you "are there any further questions or comments"? We emphasise interaction on our walking tours, that way we can better understand where our clients interest is and then we try to add to our story line in that direction. If we don't receive much feedback we continue our walk onwards and stick to our usual story line which of course can have its minimal differences based on the group, weather and even guide. Hope to hear again from you,

Bucket list experience

Barbara, our guide was terrific. Very passionate passionate about what she does and genuinely wanted us to get the most of our time. We were fortunate and straight away started seeing activity.

Well worth the investment of money and time! Martin is a wonderful guide! Learned a lot! Toured on morning of January 13 - cold and windy, wear layers and your lopi.

Fantastic way to get to know Reykjavik

Anna_M, Jan 2026
The guide was very friendly and funny, and so knowledgeable about the history of the place, while also being aware that it was really cold, so he made sure we went inside a gallery or smth for a few minutes while he shared more about the place or the city’s history.

This was 100% one of the best walking tours I've EVER taken! Thomas was so knowledgeable (a degree in history!!!) with easy to understand English (dad from Chicago - BONUS!) and just so informative and fun! We feel like we know so much more now about Reykjavik! We honestly wish we'd done it the day we arrived!
