Our pastry class with Vanessa was absolutely wonderful — simply perfect in every way. She was warm, welcoming, knowledgeable, and made the entire experience fun and easy to follow. Her passion for pastry truly shows, and she made everyone feel comfortable and engaged. Not only did we learn so much, but we also laughed, enjoyed every moment, and created delicious treats. This class became one of the highlights of our trip and made it truly memorable. We can’t recommend Vanessa highly enough — it was an unforgettable experience!

Fantastic! Vanessa's engaging banter kept us laughing throughout. Everyone had a turn at assisting with/completing several steps of making both pastry and custard. Lots of opportunity to chat with other travelers while sipping vino verde, water or iced tea. Highly recommend!

Terrible and don't recommend at all. Total waste of time and very unprofessional. Just a scam period.

Response from Host, Jul 2026

Good afternoon, our participation rules and booking conditions are clearly stated before and after booking the activity: all clients must arrive before the start of the class, as entry after it has started is not permitted. The rules apply to all participants, not just some. Most arrive 10 to 15 minutes early to check in, wash and disinfect their hands, and familiarize themselves with the space. We allow 5 minutes of tolerance, and even then you arrived well after. The only way to guarantee quality service to our clients and stability in working hours and schedules for our employees is by implementing the pre-established rules and not giving in to absurd pressure from those who do not comply with the pre-established rules. That's what it means to be professional. Best regards

Pastel, Wine, & Good Time!

Lourdes_M, Jun 2026
Do this class, you will not regret it. Cooking with Clara was such a great experience. Clara our instructor is a culinary-trained instructor and has such great positive vibe that she effortlessly creates a fun and relaxing communal atmosphere for everyone. Our class was full at 12 students. It is set in an air conditioned beautiful stylish kitchen. It truly felt like we were cooking at a friend’s home. Clara kept the refreshing cold tea and chilled vino verde flowing. She’s not only an excellent instructor she’s also a wonderful host. My son and I decided to take a Pastel de Nata class as a fun midday activity timed to avoid the hottest part of the day. Clara showed us how to make these delicious pastels from scratch and everyone had a turn at hands-on participation. At end of class you get the recipe, so no need to try and memorize it. We got to eat them warm right out of the oven - delicious! Clara sent each of us off with extras dure to be enjoyed later. Additionally, she provided lots of curated suggestions for where to eat local fare while in Porto. I read reviews on multiple cooking class options and did a thorough search. Ultimately I’m so glad I trusted my instinct and decided on this class. Such a fun experience to share w my 20 year old son. Thank you Clara!

Great way to bond with family

Elena_A, Jun 2026
This workshop is a wonderful way to spend time with family and meet new people. Vanessa, who hosted the course, is lovely, friendly, professional, and has a great sense of humor, which made the experience even more enjoyable. She engaged everyone and we all felt like we are learning about Portugal through this experience. We had a fantastic time learning how to bake Pastéis de Nata while sipping on wine, and of course, eating them with coffee afterwards was the best part! A fun, relaxed, and memorable experience that I would happily recommend.

We notified the activity...

Cynthia_A, May 2026
We notified the activity coordinator about delay in transportation and on arrival 1 minute past last call they told us that we could no longer come in. We were told by Alexandra that we could join the afternoon class but to call Viator to switch. Viator then called the group coordinator to verify this statement and they went back on their word. The coordinator told us to repay and book the seats eventhough they were empty. It is unfortunate to have been communicated that we would be able to do the later class and then for it to be false. In addition they did not follow up on response about this for over 3 hours. Instead I had to reinitiate contact to ask again for an update on tickets. Poor customer service. Do not recommend working with this company.

Response from Host, Jun 2026

Good morning, Our rules are clear and explicit before and after booking, and reiterated on your ticket, as well as in reminder messages: this is an activity where you cannot join after the start time as it affects logistics and quality. Just because you say you will arrive late does not make an exception to the participation rules. We always allow a 5-minute grace period, but even so, you arrived well beyond that time. There is no tolerance on top of tolerance, so your claim of arriving only one minute late is false. You arrived almost 10 minutes after the scheduled time, about 25 minutes later than the rest of the group who planned their arrival on time and did not deserve to see the activity affected by your lateness. Just like with all clients who arrive late or don't show up, you weren't given the option of a refund or rescheduling. However, both at the workshop entrance and by phone, you were told that you could try your luck at another class, that if we had availability at the start time we would allow participation at no additional cost, but that we couldn't guarantee places as that would mean assuming responsibility for your failure to comply with the rules. The only way to guarantee places was to make a new reservation. You then tried to twist this information and told Viator that we had approved the rescheduling without cost, just as you attempted a refund claiming unforeseen medical reasons. It is extremely unethical not to comply with the rules of participation in an activity, to try in every way to make the service provider responsible using incorrect information, and then to distort this story in a review. Fortunately, as you can see, we have completely different feedback from the overwhelming majority regarding our professionalism and quality. In order to guarantee maximum quality for our clients and the best working conditions for our employees, we will always remain true to our values and participation policies. Best regards

Great learning tour option

Our host provided an excellent hands on class of how to bake pastel de nada (made us realize why we will probably want to buy them already made!). Excellent host and fun class.

Wanted to love it but…

Janeve, May 2026
This experience was a birthday gift from my partner, and given the high reviews, we were incredibly excited to do it. Unfortunately, we left feeling really disappointed and short-changed by the experience. While I understand that the pastels are made collectively as a group due to time limitations, the instructor needs to ensure everyone gets a fair turn. In our session, the instructor didn't manage participation well. While other participants got to try different parts of the process in their turns, my partner and I were relegated to just rolling the dough a couple of times on the only two occasions we were selected to partake in the baking process. Everyone pays the same price, so everyone should get an equal experience. Since this was for a special occasion, the lack of engagement was especially frustrating. I really wanted to love this experience but unless the organisers work on balancing their classes better, as it stands I wouldn't recommend it. Your level of participation will sadly depend on luck of the draw based purely on what seat you are sat in.

Loved our Nata class!!

Learn to Make Pastel de Nata from Scratch!

ChristopherDaniel_G, May 2026
Amazing experience learning how to make pastel de nata desserts from scratch! Vanessa was a friendly host and great teacher who made the afternoon interactive and immersive every step of the baking journey. The class also included vinho verde, story telling and spending time with fellow tourists from around the world. After completing it, I now have a deeper appreciation for the elaborative process that goes into these tasty treats. It is a lovely way to spend an afternoon and for me personally, the perfect and sweet send off to a week well spent in Porto. Keep up the great work, God Bless!
